I think the main reasons abel vs gief is retarded:
- gief’s can poke him to death
- once gief got a knockdown, abel’s pretty much fucked. bullshit vortex lol
I agree with akuma being nearly as retarded as vs gief but at least ive seen top abel players going 4-6 or even 5-5 against a top akuma (in my case ac revenger vs tokido and taku star)… that s.hk loop is bullshit though haha. but yeah the trick is dont get hit by that… same with against gief… dont get knocked down, but then you’ll get poked to death haha.
Though in my book, abel vs akuma is 3-7ish.

2/3 of those mismatches arent even truly “mismatches” its more like people being bad at the game and then blaming the matchup…when in fact they dont even play their own character to their full potential. Such is america.
How are people going to claim (x vs gief) is a bad matchup where there are zero real good zangief players in the US that have even understand all the matchups with their char to begin with? I’m not saying Gief doesnt have bad matchups, but the char is S tier for a reason. He’s a motherfucking tank that can take hits all day then come back with 1 punish. I don’t think Seth vs Gief is as bad as people say either. Get Seth in the corner and play smart, then suddent that supposed 7-3 matchup doesn’t look so 7-3 anymore.
Seth vs Balrog = not free for Seth either. This isnt even a terrible mismatch to begin with. Same for Sagat vs Balrog. Just cause they dont have the advantage, doesnt mean its a mismatch.
I’d write more but I’d end up typing all day. Japan has really opened my eyes up matchup wise, theres a lot of stuff with arcade chars we just dont know.
It is but its not bad as some of these others for sure.

Gief vs seth is debatable but honestly, the only zangief whose opinion actually matters to me is Crizzle and he’d say 3-7 or 4-6. Honda vs Sagat is definitely 3-7 and America hasn’t even picked up on the kara cancels yet :(. Guile vs Sagat is probably close to 4-6 but I don’t see how sagat could lose with kara’s in his arsenal.
Abel vs gief is bad but honestly, I think most abel’s just complain waaay too much. Only abel that actually does decently is Juicebox. Rest are just not there execution wise or match-up wise. Probably 3.5-6.5 if not for ridiculously good option selects gief has.
I see no one mentioned Blanka vs. Rog though. That must be because there is no debate. Worst match ever lol. I admit that I do not know all the mismatches in this game. That’s why I was asking. The only one I have first hand knowledge in is Blanka vs. Balrog and there is honestly no hope there and I shun to think that there are mismatches out there worse then that. Everyone seems to agree that Abel vs. Zangief is pretty shitty, but is it really worse then Blanka vs. Balrog? I couldn’t imagine.
I’ve seen Geif’s beat Sagat’s, Honda’s beat Sagat’s and other mismatches being overcame, but I’ve never seen a Blanka beat a Rog in tournament play except me and I had to punish Balrog’s overhead with ultra to do that. Hella lucky and nothing something I will realistically be able to do against the never ending “Balrog Army”.

instead of complaining about their characters bad match ups, people should play those matchups as much as possible and learn everything they can about them. the person with more knowledge of the match up will beat the favorite of the match up almost every time

I watched a vid in the blanka section today and the guy that posted it did pretty damn well, I was really impressed. I know blanka ball is punishable even on hit but the guy had the balrog so confused it looked like the match was completely opposite

Viper vs Gief is very bad. Probably not the worst in the game, but definitely up high on the list.
blanka with stuff like walkup piano shocks and amazing mixups can beat rogs. its not that terrible if the blanka isnt retarded. it takes alot of gimmicks and conservation to win, sure but its definitely not one sided whatsoever. in fact, none of those matchups are mismatches beside abel vs gief. lastly, there are amazing claw players around, and despite still being a weak character, a strong claw is not to be underestimated. they have a decent vortex, and weak only because they have no come back potential.
