I’m gonna have to call the first GBA KoF. Second is better but still shitty, in the sense that you are shit out of luck on when you are down to last character.
Out of the main KoF, my call is 99. It takes no brain or management to do touch of death combos. KoF is different from fatal fury, desperation systems don’t work well. DMs in KoF are way more powerful than in FF. Striker KoFs all sucked anyway, 2000 not so bad but that’s when playing without striker.
In terms of gameplay, I think 2003 and 2001 are the worst. 2003 had terrible controls, weak sounds effects and the tagging system was pretty weak, especially compared to what they did with it in XI. I mainly dislike 2001 due to the multiple striker system which I thought was over the top. I think I should mention '97 too. The gameplay was fine, but the ambient stage music and constant slowdown after flame effect specials/supers really turns me off wanting to ever play it again.
KOF nests series was a snore, 2001 OG had a pretty cool intro along with Zero and Igniz to liven things up but the PS2 port was ass and glitchy not to mention I heard better music in NES games, 2003 was pretty sweet with the introduction of Ash along with a couple Garou MOTW characters plus it played fast and pretty fluid too, as for KOF gba (the second game) that game was great, it was like a scraped idea they have for KOF 2000, matter of fact it had most of 00’ stages too
yes, i really like 2003’s controls…i think it’s the only game that i can do the Kim and Iori combo along with the XI ahahah
about the 2 GBA games, i liked the secondo one, it’s not that bad and the new chars are cute ahah
99 is ass. 00 was pretty much combo spam fest thanks to those strikers. 01 was actually the best kof out there with the striker system. 02 was good but not all that its said to be by most. 03 was just shit. XI was decent at best. XII will probably be on the same level as 97/98 for me. though it cuold have been infinitelly better.
2000 despite all the broken stuff was pretty fun and great presentation. Never played 2001 more then for one round so I couldn’t tell you if I found it worst then 99 but it is probably in that area.
97 wasn’t that bad, despite a few deals here and there. The storyline was sweet and it set up the Advanced system for later KOFs. Of course there’s no reason to play it anymore because 98 has everything it has and more.
Take off your fanboy glasses. Take them off now and try to find anything of merit in 97’ without mentioning 98’, the storyline, or nostalgia.
There is none.
It is a shitty, sloppy, incomplete beta of 98’.
Bad music, bad presentation, bad characters, and horrible, buggy “gameplay”.
wtf? buggy gameplay? now i know you never played 97. 98 = 97 with a few extra characters and some simple and small character specific changes. so small actually that a lot of the characters are almost identical to their 97 selves with only minor changes. especially the oldest characters that have been in the game the longest. the difference between the highly similar 94 and 95 is even far bigger than the differences between 97 and 98. if there ever have been 2 kofs that are basically similar, its 97 and 98. so i really cant understand how you can hate on 97 this much but talk such greatness about 98. dont tell me cause i marked 00 as just decent?
Like RK said, there’s nothing really wrong with this game. By the way you said that you didn’t like 98, I can understand why you don’t like it. I like it in a stupid fun kinda way, I wouldn’t mind popping it in sometime and playing it, it introduced a lot to the series. BTW, a lot of KOFs feel like betas to their dream matches. When you do these yearly, it’s not easy. This is one of their best “betas”.
Moral of the story: Different strokes for different folks.
RK: Gotta agree, 97 is one of the best KOF intros ever.
I think you were given that impression since '97 was the last game where command throws DIDN’T have miss animations.
'97 had a lot of things going against it: abundance of (rather easy to do) 100% combos (hi Mary!), some infinites here and there (hi Terry!), damage setting being a little bit TOO high, and the hugely broken Orochi family (you couldn’t point out ONE Orochi character being anything less than overpowered. Even O. Shermie, considered low tier in other games, was pretty damn good in '97).
2000 is kinda like XSF in the way that “it’s so broken it’s fun” kind of aspect. I guess it can be fun until someone applies a retarded infinite on you and the magic just fades away. :bluu:
The OST of the game is quite bad. Horrible sound quality and way too “synthy”.
The AST is great and has some real classics like Cool Jam and Bloody, but the original Neo-Geo soundtracks are just unforgivable.
“They’re back show really gay pose of Benimaru Wah wah wah wah wah show Daimon constipated Izit fayt or jus bloodiCOINCIDENCE blah blah and NOW tha fourthphazeisabout wah wah”
I think you are confusing “bad roster” with “bad characters”. Almost all of the new characters were horribly broken or horribly shitty and incomplete (Chris, Shermie) because they were so rushed.
So wait, according to you: good gameplay = fast with instant grabs.
If so, I have the perfect game that lives up to your stringent standards…
