Worry over SFIV stealing our player base

I have to agree with this. I haven’t played a single ranked match in months.

PS: GGs today Skankin. I was taking turns with EA Megaman on his account. I’m not used to that TE stick though. I was screwing up things left and right.

Oh snap, yeah good games to both of you. I also have to say you’re improved a shitload since that one GGPO tourney where we got to finals. I suppose that’s to be expected cos it was a while ago, but I just thought I’d tell you, cos damn it’s a big difference. I need to play good players like you and ea megaman more often cos I’m beginning to plateau

I didt like sf4 eighter. got to try it for 2 days and i hosted a pretty big sf4 tournament to help our community grow , but i dunno if it was such a smart idea . sf4 is stealing skilled players from other games and making them love sucking in sf4 more than playing what they acctually are good at now
. then my sf4 cd broke or it was allready broken from the start ! so now i cant play sf4 . wich kinda makes it an easy decision.

Thanks man! :lovin:

Yeah, I hear you on the needing to play good players more. I’ll be happy when the patch hits because I’ll finally be able to get some practice against Vega.

There has definitely been a exodus of good players since IV was released (90% of my friends list are always playing IV).

BTW, I gave IV a shot for two and a half weeks but I just couldn’t have fun with the game. Most of the reasons have already been covered here but the main ones are the horrible online setup, meaties being worthless, the simplification of moves which is actually making it harder to get the move you want a lot of the time, the concept of Ultras and probably most importantly, the overall slow pace the game has - I feel like the game is taking place on the moon. BLEH.

Anyway, I’ve found good rooms every night since I’ve come back to HDR this week. In a weird way I think IV is helping bring good players together more on HDR - less players means it’s easier to search out and find good players you recognize. Rank is too much of a crapshoot and honestly what’s the point in playing ranked if it’s broken?

I feel like I have been seeing better competition on LIVE as of late. I usually just do ranked matches because they are usually the quickest for me, I don’t really care about rank sense it is broken anyway. A lot less scrubs it seems.

I feel like the rest of you though, I really wish all the time I had to play I could dedicate to playing GOOD players. I feel like my skill level has dropped a good bit sense I have been playing on LIVE instead of ST GGPO. I just try stupid shit and shenanigans on players who know better, from bad habits of playing 30 not so good players in a row. I know better, but I get complacent. Ahhh well.

On GGPO, I got to play a lot of you SRK heads, but on LIVE, out of about 200 matches or so that I have logged (no time to play lately =[) I have played maybe 2 or 3 SRK peeps.

I’ve already gone back to playing HDR for the most part. Nowadays I run into a lot more good players online since it seems most of the scrubs have left for the shiny new game. And I still haven’t turned on the new graphics.

You guys kick my ass and a lot of players will leave for SF IV because of that.

Why? HDR is too unforgiving compared to IV, maybe it’s my crappy SF anniversary stick though. The good players are just lightyears ahead of everyone else, SF IV everyone is on a slightly more even/fun ground. I can’t find anyone who I’m actually having fun against to play with in HDR. I’m usually just blown out.

Also, After avoiding Zangief since SFII first came out, in SF IV I finally took the plunge and started using Zangief. His SPD is lightyears easier to pull off, even his super is. The lariats are easier as well. Went back to HDR to try my hand at Zangief there and I’m lucky if I’m able to even get a lariat out after 3 tries.

Maybe I just suck though.

Thanks

Ah, see to me that is the fun in any SF, playing someone who is better than you, and trying to find a way to beat them. There is always a way, it just may not be evident the first 400 losses you have to go through to figure it out heh.

Agreeed, i’ve been harping on about this for ages in other posts, but it’s not for capcom to decide what the “essential” tactics are in the game, it’s for the players to work out after launch day. These games take on a life of their own once they’re released, and studied in more detail than capcom could ever manage. That’s one of my problems with some of the trickier gameplay mechanics in 4. I can do all of this 1 or 2 frame window FADC combo stuff fine in challenge mode, but with 90% of it i don’t know if i’ll ever get to the point where it’s actually some way useful against a real opponent and not mega risky, especially when i’m on a connection that allows for WAY more than 1 or 2 frames of lag discrepancy between players, and the chance to actually do it comes up once in a blue moon, cos the opponent is not an idiot. As it stands at the moment, if i get a single window in a round to land a punish combo, you can be damn sure i’m not gonna take the risk of f*cking it up by putting a FADC in the middle of it, i’m gonna do something i KNOW will land.

The community will eventually decide what’s good and useful in the game through extensive playtesting, and all the other sh1t will be dropped out by the time “Street Fighter 4 upper super mega turbo-the new cashcow” is released.Capcom has long a history of “needing a bit of fine tuning” every time they release the first in a brand new street fighter series (think of superSF, Alpha, SF3, and others). I doubt SF4 and FADC 1 frame window bullshit will be seen as any exception.

I don’t think it was their goal to show them new combos for trail mode. I believe it was to teach the new players on what links and combos were. Also show them the dexterity required to execute them.

The combos provided in trial mode may not be viable, but new players will most certainly be able to pull off their own discovered advanced movesets because of the training.

y0 man DGV is SIIIIIICK

he straight raped me like 4 times with ryu.

and yea i am winning alot more than i should to the point where im just sleepwalking through ranked matches

good players come back plz!

So another thing in response to James Chen above posting that SRK FADC ultra is perfectly fine, and he can do it easily:

Just watched that finals vid from the Japanese nationals, Sagat vs Dhalsim. Sagat player screwed up 2/3 of his SRK FADC Ultra attempts (and lost).

Against Dhalsim, yeah, I can totally see it. You need to do as much damage to him as possible every chance you get to hit him. But I think that’s just pressure. I’ve seen easier stuff get missed even in ST, right? I remember in a CvS1 tourney, I was so surprised I knocked someone dizzy that I messed up Low Short x 3 linked into Low Roundhouse Super with Benimaru, which in CvS1 is dead easy (I got so much shit for that, too. “That was your combo?” my friends said to me. “Three Low Shorts?!?”).

I mean, I still miss FADCs in the heat of battle all the time. But I don’t think of it as FADCs being too hard, I just think of myself as not being clutch enough to remain calm and land it.

Ok, I’m starting to notice the decrease of players in ranked matches. I’ve had to play the same person several times over, and this was not an isolated occurrence.

There is always hope that the patch will bring people back, of course.

Ranked matches haven’t meant shit since the rank system broke close to launch. When this patch arrives and the rankings reset/fix, then you’ll see a load of great players back.

Damn you cant do a Lariat in HDr?
A LARIAT?!
Its 2 punches or kicks. Wtf is so hard about that?
Have you even ATTEMPTED to enter the training mode?
If you cant do a lariat maybe you should give up Street Fighter altogether.

Also, delete your account here at SRK. Its obvious you want things the easy way, and have no desire to learn.
What i mean is, no one has to suck. Giving in and just saying the problems are all happening because you suck is what pisses me off about new fans…and SF4 fans.

I for one, cant STAND Street Fighter 4.
I’m pissed they took away all the overheads…like Fei’s Chickenwing.
People say “Its a whole different game”.
Yea, a stupid one.

So all the people that want to leave HDr for that can piss off for all i care.
Most of those people a “rage-quitters” and “give up artists”.
I’m tired of it.

HDr is an amazing game. I think its the best game to come out in a long time.
I dont worry about it losing fans because HDr has a core fanbase from ST players.

Wait and see, and couple years from now when all the newbies and scrubs melt away and forget about SF4, HDr will still be around.
Besides, the potential patches in the future mean eventually HDr will be perfected.

The only way I’ll change my mind about SF4 is if they bring in Final Fight Characters, and Birdie.

Wait… what?

I agree that HDR is a much better game at the moment though. To be fair to SF4, it doesn’t have the advantage of basically being an upgrade to what’s maybe the best fighting game of all time.

…actually SF4 added a bunch of new overheads. Part of why I don’t like it.

I’m also more of a fan of the limited juggling system in ST. Why on earth should I get f.RH into Ultra’d for hitting Sagat out of his uppercut?

Whatever. Remix is a beautiful game. Sim is still rocking and I’ll still be playing ST 10 more years down the road.
