World Warriors League:
The goal of the WWL is to create an environment where on a weekly basis, we can emulate a tournament style atmosphere as much as is possible online, and encourage players to improve thorough improved matchmaking and multiple events.
Our league is starting out with HDR, and I think people will be pleased with our setup. Every week will take the number of entrants, based on time zone, and organize them into regional pools, that will consist of usually 8 people. All pool play matches are played at Monday night and begin at 8:00 either EST or PST depending on where you are geographically.
Each player plays each other player in their pool and tabulates a total pool record in the form of Wins (W), Losses (L), and One-Game Losses (O). All matches are played in the standard 2 out of three matches wins the set. Each match is best two out of three rounds, with standard time limit, and Akuma is banned from league play. One-Game Losses occur when someone loses a set 2 games to 1. Each win is worth 3 points, a loss earns zero points, and a one-game loss nets the player 1 point. EST players and CST players can play each other and PST (including AZ) and MST players can play each other. Pool schedules with times will be posted on Monday Mornings. Each match is given 12 minutes to complete. Matches should start at 8:00, 8:12, 8:24, etc. 1P and 2P positions will be preset, if you are 1P you have to invite the 2P player into your private room. Each competitor should send a record of their matches to worldwarriorsleague@gmail.com. The subject line should read your Gamertag and your Pool Number. In the e-mail you should list in order of play how you did against each opponent in the form of a games won record. W(2-0), W(2-1),L(1-2), L(0-2) with your opponents gamertag next to the record. After pool play the results are tallied and the next morning, the pool results are released.
Now depending on the number of pools a tournament will be run Tuesday night (in some multiple of 8, 16, or 32). We will take the top players from each pool and bracket the tournament appropriately. The tournament bracket will also be posted along with pool results Tuesday morning.
Tuesday tournaments begin at 10:30 EST / 7:30 PST. For those on the east coast worried about bed times, once people understand how to read the brackets, a 32 person / double elimination tournament can be run in just about 2 hours. Tournament will be run on a double elimination basis with the same rules as for pool play. Grand Finals will be best 3 out of 5. If the Loser?s Bracket Winner takes the first set from the Winner?s Bracket Winner in the Grand Finals, the players will flip 1P and 2P positions and play another best of 5 set. The 1P is the person on top, and the 2P is the person on bottom. Many matches will be played simultaneously with a complete schedule released with the bracket Tuesday morning. 15 minutes will be given between each tournament match to allow for responses to come into the tabulation area (my inbox) so we know who won and who lost and can send quick responses to players. Much of this will happen on its own as based on where you start, you know where you can go and who you can face, then its just finding out who won what match, this will be posted as live as possible to ensure smooth running.
A note on character selection: You DO NOT have to play the same character throughout the entire event. You DO NOT have to play the same character against two different opponents. You DO have to keep your character inside of a match if you win the game. The Loser may switch as he or she sees fit.
After each event we will have a running score, much like a seasonal championship. Based on the size of the event that week, the winner of the tournament will get so many points, the runner-up so many points and so on. Points will be given out for winning your pool, and other things such as perfect rounds, etc. At the end of each season, we?ll try to run one VERY LARGE, and completely open to league members and non-league members, tournament. Seedings for this tournament will be based first on your championship points in league play. Points for this event will be doubled towards the season end awards. After the tournament is over, we?ll announce the end of season awards.
The WWL will be free to start, we?re hoping to build numbers and maybe attract a sponsorship to cover future prizes. Based on our leagues success we may run similar events for other games including SFIV, and MvC2. If you?re interested in joining our league please PM me on shoryuken.com; send a message to my gamertag on XBOX Live Silver Rain 007, or reply to the forum here with your gamertag and your timezone. Remember, more people = more sponsorship = more prizes for everyone. I?m going to break it down into East and West and list some of the players by gamertag who have expressed interest. Hopefully you?ll be next!
