Against Zangief… first match im afraid to get SPD all the time so I rarely go in… and the 2nd match I decide to go for it and attack. I would like to know what things i should continue to do well and what i need to improve. Thanks in advance
Took me forever to edit the damn sprites and, in the end, the audio got out of sync during encoding. fml

Nothing special, just abusing LK SSB a bit here.
Dropped a ton of combos. I usually do online, even though I tend to get them ~90% of the time in training mode. Maybe lag, dunno.
I played this guy plenty of times before and he always abuses focus (even though Ken’s FA is Fucking Ass seewhatididthere).
Still, he’s the only guy who uses FA a lot against me, so I’m not used to it, fell for it too many times.
In general learn the dartshot > st. roundhouse link. It takes practice, but it’s worth it to not have to lose 10% combo scaling because of the jab. Dartshot >st roundhouse link with plinking is essentially a 2-frame link since you can do it 1 frame early.
Actually, are you a pad player? You don’t seem to plink anything.
In general against Dee Jay, when you have him for oki go low until he starts blocking low or backdashing. Meaty crouch short doesn’t get hit by Up kicks and if you do it meaty, you can’t get tagged by Sobats either. Finally, this is just preference, but I rarely use scoop for anything outside of the corner or going for scoop x3 > super to kill someone. Crouch short is a better bet especially given that scoop is -8 on block and punishable.
I have a couple of questions about the first video. First of all, do you not plink the link from crouch jab to stand roundhouse? If you don’t, might as well do it. It takes an easy link and makes it even easier. Secondly, when you threw out a crouch forward in the corner during the first round, did you do that on purpose or was that supposed to be a stand forward as an AA that got the input messed up? Thirdly, any time you do Level 2 FA Backdash, get a crumple and have meter do dash-in jab jet upper > ex ducking straight > follow-up. In that specific case since you had 2 meters and Dee Jay was close to the corner it would have been jab jet upper > ex duck straight (Dee Jay would be in the corner by now) > ex duck straight > jab mgb . That’s like 360-400 damage. Finally, in the last round when you stunned Dee Jay it seemed like you didn’t know what you wanted to do after you stunned him. Since you did a fairly long combo before, I probably would have reset him and gone low; however, the combo you did doesn’t make much sense. You should have either reset him or done a jump-in combo (Jump-in fierce > liver blow > st. roundhouse > Jab Jet Upper > jab mgb) to get more damage than Level 3 FA > combo.
3rd video: Don’t try to reversal Dee Jay’s oki especially if he’s in the air. Not only can he cross you up, but he can make his knee shot a safe jump.
4th video: Just because 34 made a tut vid about backswing blow doesn’t mean it’s actually a good reversal.
Not video related, because i didn’t go for it there, but I’m trying to see if reversal lk ssb works if i expect a tick throw.
After fa lvl2 backdash,if i dash in front, the JAB JU can wiff, so i go for what hits them even when they are lying on the floor.
And yes, pad.
About the st.hk diretly after overhead. If i am a bit far away i’ll go for hk directly, but if im upclose, i think it’s WAY safer to do the jab.Yeah, it scales a bit more, but if you miss the link into the jab, you can confirm it, and not go for the ex mgb after the st.hk. A wee bit less damage in a situatiom is way better than no damage and eating a punish in the same situation in my books .
Dashing in and doing jab jet uppercut will never whiff unless you’re doing that from basically the maximum range. You weren’t at max range in the youtube video. Seriously, as long as you do the jab jet uppercut input relatively quickly it’s not a problem. Also, I use a stick so dart shot > st.roundhouse is basically the same level of difficulty as dartshot > crouch jab > st. roundhouse. All you have to do is make sure you that you do the input on the early side so that if you do mess up, you get dart shot and then nothing because you did the inputs too early as opposed to dart shot, not linked st. roundhouse xx EX MGB.
Also, I get trying to beat tick-throws with backswing blow but at 1:23 in video 4 you use reversal ex backswing blow to try to stuff a jump-in after being knocked down… That’s what I’m talking about.
f.HK into s.HK is easy once you gain muscle memory. Just like how f.MK>s.MP>s.HK was once a pain, now its as easy as doing jab jab s.hk.
Not only do you do more damage, the opponent recieves more stun meter. And that’s really the goal, 2 combos = stun, reset = win, if reset fails = play lame for the remainding time left on clock. your in the lead.
Why wouldn’t you play lame when you have life advantage? The opponent has to take risks now and your main goal to to simply anti air properly and play footsies accordingly. Opponent is the one throwing out dp fadc or messiahs or w/e ex moves they have. When your in life lead after a stun.
DP FADC and ex messiah is more of a problem on defense than it is when on offense.
Why would you give someone the opportunity to open up your Dudley. Why play lame against characters with better offense and footsies than Dudley when you can just open them up with safe block strings and pressure.
my wife is Dudley, real talk. He my everything. lol @ lessons though, I laughed hard on that. Kappa
It depends on how much life I have, meter, and who I am facing, for exs. Rufus, if I had life lead had full meter, I will play lame with life lead. It’s much easier playing lame vs Rufus with Dudley since Rufus footsies are not so good and most just jump in or divekick their way in. It’s a situational strategy.
Well yeah obviously if your playing vs guile / dalsim, rog, or any character you need to get in on, you stick to them, i am talking about characters where footsies arent overpowered.
rufus, viper (shes so scary, though) sagat, dan, etc.
sagats normals aren’t that good and lose to st.MP, cr.MP, st.HK, st.HP. the problem is just his st.HP if Sagats learn to use it and tiger knee spaced, unless you have nasty ass reactions. others not so much, I guess I wanna say Evil Ryu for now with his slow startup normals like sweep and st.HK. st.HP rapes eryu, but you can just rush him down, too. havent fought many good eryu’s anyway, but I’m rusty right now and havent been playing ae as much either.
hey liquid could you help give me the directions how to get to Guard Crush? I’m planning on going soon once college settles down for me (with the work and all) like the train or the address to guard crush, etc.
I’m srs about these lessons tho.Liquid helped me realize what I needed to do differently with Dud when he invited me to play Marn online way back.
I wouldnt have gotten better as fast if it wasnt for me coming to that realization.
But grats brah have fun with da fams. Lemme know if you goin back to dud sometime tho
