Work In Progess: The Evil Ryu Guide

^ You always have to plink with a lower strength button, from kick>punch. You can plink a low short with c.lk~c.lp, because kick overrides the punch and you get two low short inputs. You can’t do it for jab though.

However - the back/select button also counts as an input, and it you REALLY want to plink with jab, you can do c.lp~back/select button. It will result in two c.lp inputs.

Good luck on getting your hands to do it though… hah!

O_o wtf? Now that shit blows my mind. I woulda never thought to do that… I can’t even imagine a situation where select/back plinking would be necessary and hitting LP wouldn’t work without it…

^ 1-frame jab links?

You can actually rewire your back/select button to one of you face buttons to make it easier, but it’ll probably take some getting used to.

Damn… lol I can’t believe I missed out on so much info. O_o

If my channel wasn’t Dudley exclusive I’d record and upload myself.

E.Ryu Corner punish combos

jump HK/HP or Lv2/3Focus cl.MK xx EX Hado, cl.MP xx MK Axe kick ect
^^ clMK xx EX Hado, cl.MK xx EX Hado, cl.MP xx MK Axe kick ect.

1 bar cl.MK ex Hado combo will do more damage than a 2 bar cl.HK xxMK axe , MP xx Hado FADC combo.
2 bar is scaled and does a bit more damage than 1 bar cl.MK xx ex Hado

works on everyone too

update to previous comment
my main is now E.Ryu and that combo doesnt work on everyone for cl.MP from cl.mk ex hado

I plan on making a tut for Eryu since more people use him than Dudley and he’s easier to learn so it wont go to waste KappappaK

How do you recommend I organize the video?
What things should I include in it above all others?
Is a video tut needed?

I plan on making it 10 minutes long, one big video for everything. Not like lordultima’s videos but more informative on how Eryu can be played in matches. His options and strategies ect ect.

Here’s what I got so far

Anti Airs (crouch DP, c.HP,fars.HK close s.HK, LP SRK Trade DP options, DP FADC Options)
Air 2 Airs (nj.HK,jt, MP, jump back jb.HK and MK ect ect)
Pokes, Buffering and footsies ( s.HP c.MK, c.HK, f.MK, Focus ect
Fireballs and Zoning ( What should I put here
Hit confirms (Meterless, 1 bar, FADC
Punish combos (obv)
Blockstrings and Pressure (Kara demon, DP FADC, f.MK Resets)
OSs and safe jumps
Okizeme ( empty jump short, dive kick, unblockables/ cross up divekick j.HK set ups

Ya all of this is gonna fit in a 12ish min video I just need ideas of what’s most important for E.Ruu players to learn.
I think my E.Ryu is decent atm, not using all tools but im getting there
Good enough with him to know what tools i’m not using and how important they are that

Honestly, I saw what you’ve done for Dudley. I trust you. You pretty much have everything needed for people to get started. As far as what to put for zoning and fireballs, generally:

usually the farther you are from your opponent the slower the fireball needs to be
EX fireball uses
general fireball spacing and how the various anti airs interact with the fireball and spacing
fireball hit/block stun and how it can trick people into jumping or pressing buttons

maybe kara throws

So for fireballs
Full screen, midscreen, close range application
EX Hado and EX Red Hado juggles

I figure anti airs arent needed since i have that explained in the anti air part.

If I’m not bored of SSF4 altogether I’ll make tut in like a day

waits for tut

Concerning the dhalsim unblockable, does it only work with that particular set up, or any others, I have been trying to set up another situation for it to work and can’t set it up except for cr. lk -> cr. lp -> cr. mp xx ex axe kick. Would really like if this worked with cl.st. mp xx ex axe kick, or even cr. mp -> cl. st. fp xx ex axe kick.

Where’d you learn about this Dhalsim unblockable? Also, I saw Nagao do a unblockable on guy. DP FADC EX AXE kick. Dash fwd twice jump HK. Mines keep whiffing.

It should work for others, but it’s reliant on spacing and timing. Rice Eater’s analysis stated that it works after any EX Axe Kick > back dash AFTER you pause for a split second.

The setup on Guy isn’t an unblockable. It’s a fake cross up. It only works on the corner. Rice Eater found the Sim unblockable. Both Sim and Guy’s unblockables are in the 1st couple of posts at the beginning of this thread. Details on the setups are also in the 1st couple of posts in this thread

Perhaps I was a bit unclear, as far as I understood by the wording that was Rice Eater’s video (and as far as I know, only set up). You state the it’s reliant on spacing, so I was wondering if there was any other actual combo to make it work (as the one in the video is not a combo). I replicated the video in about two tries, and then tried to go into an actual combo version to see if could be set up reliably after the unblockable. If Rice Eater has tested this, and done it, or posted somewhere else that it works with any combo into ex axe kick, I’m sorry. it just seems either ridiculously harder to do out of an actual combo, so I was looking for verification. I did check out the threads to try and find it.

Sup Gin, to answer your question, yes it will work off a combo. But you’re right about it being harder. I’ve successfully landed the unblockable off a combo into EX axe kick, but I struggled a lot more compared to doing a raw or non combo EX axe kick. I’m not sure why that is, but my best advise is that if you can’t figure out the timing, just do resets or something to try to catch Sim players sleeping.

Any option select to catch teleporters? (Akuma…)

As far as I know there’s nothing that’ll make him stop doing it. I think the most you do is OS a EX fireball. Not really worth it unless you’re winning a round from it and can probably be punished if he cancels his teleport into U2

Guys, just wanna thank you for posting all this info. Im trying to learn to play with ER for a couple of days now. Im using the ps3 controller, wich can be quite frustrating at times, especially when everybody says the arcade stick is the best (my wife would kill me if I spent money on this hhahahah). Anyway, im plenty of time on the ER video thread too, to try to get the timing of the combos. Still dont get a lot of things, but Ill get there. Thanx to 2all.

Cheers

Hello Tenk(I can call you Tenk for short, right :p), welcome to the board. As you may have noticed, things are a little slow around here. But if you have any questions or ideas then don’t be shy about it, ask away and hopefully I or someone else can answer or discuss things with you. I hang around this board frequently enough so I should be around. Thanks for the compliment from my youtube video, really my execution isn’t good at all but I appreciate it anyways.

Rice, thanx for your welcome post, I really meant what I said about your execution. I really admire those who can play with the command display and I can somehow follow, because it´s so precise.

I´m from Brazil, so please excuse the language if it seems a little off and dont make any sense. I guess I´ll get the hang of it with time.

I intend to be around for a while too, learn how to play ER (holding myself no to come back to Ryu only to get back to my comfort zone), and understand the other chars. I´m watching a lot of videos, but I have to respect my learning curve, and understand the concepts of distance, the best counter options, DEFENSE, etc.

Yesterday i was so damn happy because I could do cl.HP, axe kick, L.LP, Tatsu, SRK… but i, 5 bout later, learned it´s useless to perform the combo on practice and can´t do it one single time in a actual fight.

But i´ll keep my routine, do 10 times each combo of the main page of this board (the ones I can perform), go to arcade, play in the hardest difficulty, go on online, lose 10 matches, go back to practice, do 10 times each combo, arcade, lose 10 matches… until I only loose 9 matches, 8, etc or I´ll just give up the completely.

Anyway, this learning process is hard, but you guys went through it I guess. It´s a matter of time+effort. Mafamaticks said somewhere here that we have to practice until the combos or the movements come out naturally… trying to do that.

See you all around!!!

Hope to find you guys online someday!

Cheers
