Wolverine and the X-Men Thread (now airing in Canada and South America)

I’m a purist for a lot of things, even back in the 90’s X-men when I first start reading comics. I still never understood why adaptations couldn’t just follow the source material…but if they decide to take liberties can they at least make sure to accuratly portray the spirit of the source material.

Because people who make these adaptations want to try to be creative in their own ways, too. Just like how people who wrote '90s X-Men comics took liberties in their stories. Not even CLAREMONT completely adhered to the source material back in the '70s and '80s when he wrote his junk.

“It’s an imaginary story. Aren’t they all?”

I think it’s funny how you over looked all of Cyclops’ drawbacks. Wolverine was berating Scott because he wanted to drag the entire team into his own personal agenda. And let’s not forget he leveled half a town while chasing down Harpoon. The dude acted way more reckless then Logan.

If Scott left without requesting back up then I would agree with you. But sadly this isn’t the case.

:wgrin:

Right, the premise is absurd. That’s why I mentioned I just overlook the silliness of the premise and allow myself to be entertained by the show for what it is.

Anyway, Cyclops is willing to chase down Sinister on his own. He insists, but doesn’t beg, the X-Men to back him up after their self-righteous leader (ha ha) clearly says that the team will have no part of it. But they end up going after him regardless. Wolverine, on the other hand, doesn’t even bother discussing his personal crusades with his teammates/family. He just gets up and leaves and takes the company jet with him.

It’s hilarious to me because of how far the writers have gone to contrast Wolverine and Cyclops. They’ve been working really hard to reverse the two characters’ traditional roles. I find it funny how ham-fisted it all can be sometimes, in terms of depicting Cyclops as a foil for Wolverine.

Kind of off topic but I just got done with Hulk vs. Thor and was watching the credits. The guy who voices Odin is named French Tickner . Anyway, the Hulk vs. Series was really fuckin’ good imo. Really needs to be talked about. Deadpool ftw!!! Those quotes were priceless.

I aggree with you … the hulk vs was probably the best of marvel’s animated movies thus far. Deadpool was fantastic.

Deadpool…so much win in one cartoon!

I can’t believe it…they FINALLY portrayed Wolverine the way that he can’t be portrayed in U.S. cartoons…holy CRAP they did him justice in Hulk vs. Wolverine.

Two thumbs WAY up.

I actually don’t see that at all. Logan hasn’t pushed once to force himself into a leadership role. The only reason he accepts it is because Scott is being too emo over Jean. Not once has he fought over leading the X-Men with any of the characters.

It’s also funny how despite it being “absurd” a lot of being are watching and enjoying this series.

You don’t see it? Fine. Me, I will take my entertainment however I can. Even if it’s just unintentional humor. You seem quite defensive about this.

I’ve heard great things about it so far, but sadly there abilities are so poorly portrayed. Logan can move like a blur and Thor has SO MANY ways to deal with Hulk it isn’t even funny…I hate the way Thor is always downplayed to make Hulk look good. Anyhow I love the animated series but Logan being leader is:wonder:…since when is logan a leader lol.

Logan has always had leadership capabilities, according to many X-books profiles of him.

Well in the comics the other X-Men have tried to force him to lead. X-Force seems to be the only thing that he has stuck to long term. And who could blame them really. The amount of tactical know how in his brain far surpasses shit you could learn in a book.

He isn’t scott or steve though, and this show is trying to make him into that.

The only difference is Scott and Steve want to lead. Its never been a discussion of ability or charisma.

I don’t know if Scott Summers is a character who wants to lead. Most good comics have presented him as the type of guy who’s forced into leading, someone who is forced into a situation where he uses his experience, knowledge, and training responsibly. He’s not a natural leader like Captain America or Superman or somebody like that. He’s not one of those leaders who can inspire people easily. Cyclops is kind of… I wouldn’t call him a “loner” but he’s more aloof and more brooding than your prototypical superteam leader.

I don’t think Cyclops has ever been known for being charismatic in the sense that people actually want to work with him or that they’re drawn to him. He’s usually portrayed as being an outsider, and that’s why he, more than just about any other character, represents the X-Men and Professor X’s dream. He is the dude who’s sworn to protect a world that hates and fears him, and even his own teammates sometimes don’t even like him or look up to him. But when it all comes down to it, they know he’s the best of them, and that’s why they follow him.

superman was not a natural leader…nigga just got pushed into positions where he had to be similar to scott. honestly scott was more a natural leader on the fact him and his brother were dropped off in the woods n shit. Supes had it easy growing up compared to those two.

The best of them…wouldn’t go that far. He’s the most flawed one. New X-Men were the worse Cyclops years. He’s only grown a pair in the past year or so.

This show hasn’t made Logan into a great tactical leader in my opinion. It just shows Wolverine being the guy to bring them all back together under the same roof.

Well yeah. Its one of those instances where they scale back the capabilities of a character for tv.
