I have the Hori Real Arcade Pro EX and I noticed that it wasn’t performing up to snuff lately, when suddenly during training modem, I got the “Please Reconnect Controller” message on the Xbox. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and tried everything when I noticed that when I messed with the wire at the base of the fightstick, it would work again until I let go of it. I then also noticed a small tear that probably appeared due to wrapping the cord around the fight stick.
Can I replaced that entire cord, or am I screwed. I’ve looked around unsuccessfully for a replacement. Please help!
probably one of the usb wires has come loose on the PCB from tugging. If this is the case you wouldn’t need to replace the cable, but you would need to know how to solder it back on.
I might sound like a ass but what ever, we get a thread like this about at least once a week, sometimes more often here at tech talk.
Use the search function here and read the solutions other experts on the forums gave out to dozens of other people who had a tear on there usb cable on there, Hori, Mad Catz or any number of different brands. it is all the same fix.

For replacement cords, any USB cord, any one with a USB male A end would work (the end you plug into your PC, Xbox or PS3). It does not have to be (Insert Name) brand USB cord, and you do not really need that break away connector that is stock on every Xbox 360 wired controller any ways.
In you case I think what you have is a break not a short. A short is when 2 or more wires have insulation (plastic outer covering) that is damage and the metal wire is touching. A Break is when the metal wire is damaged, very often in a break the metal is broken but the insulation is intact.
Example: me striping the insulation on a lamp cord and letting both bare wires touch is a short, Shorts can fry electronics, blow fuses and if there enough voltage cause fires.
P.S. Fightsticks are only made by Madcatz and PDP. Everything else is an Arcade Stick, an Arcade Controller or Arcade Joystick.
