Win/Loss ratio

No, thats only true if every player playes the exact same amount of games.
An extreme example: One player plays and wins 10 games vs 10 diff. opponents, who only play this one game.
He has a winrating of 100%, and 10 players have 0%, thats an average of about 9,1%

SSF4 is my first fighting game, ive been playing for about 2 months. I played around 800 games with Akuma and my win rate was 29%. I was about to give up when one night i was playing a Blanka who countered everything i did, then would taunt me just to try and piss me off. The match would end, i’d get back in que and he would pick me again. This went on for maybe 10 or 12 matches. After that i started playing Blanka and my win rate has greatly increased in ranked to around 70%. I wish i could remember the gamertag of that asshole so i could thank him.

if there is a winner and loser in every single match then the average should be around 50% regardless of how many players there are or skill level. Of course there is a bell curve where there will be great and less than average players but on average it actually has to average out to 50%.

But me personally:
I started with Guile: 63% wins
Moved to Ibuki 54% wins
Picked up Adon 68% wins
Now developing Gouken 56% wins.

Now this is all slightly skewed for a couple reasons:

  1. Its only ranked games
  2. Picking up new characters doesn’t change my PP, so I’m players what equates to higher skilled opponents with their character vs. me picking up and learning a new character. My gouken is brand new to me but I am playing equally skilled players using 10000BP characters but we both have 3000PP so I’m at an obvious disadvantage.

~style~

I have slightly above 50% over 620 games, but I’m pretty sure I could have higher. I’ve won 25 of my last 30 games according to my battle log. Those were all just random people. I like to play people who are a lot better than me when I can, though. Sometimes I don’t get kicked by such people, and that’s why my win percentage is low.

lolololololololol @ Turbo user.

Look at all those reversals from the electricity spam using turbo.

hahahahahahahahaha omg omgggg ROFLMAO you’re the butt of all the jokes on SRK.

Yeah this guy’s right. Global average doesn’t have to be 50% because each person plays a variable number of games. So if I beat someone who’s like 3 wins and 2000 losses, I’ll lower their win percentage from like 1 to 0.9% or whatever and if I was 1-1, I’ll now be up to 66% from 50%.

yeah, your right. my bad

If I remember correctly, I currently stand at an overall of 54%. Considering I was starting off at around 30-35% two months ago, I’ll take that as progress.

SSF4 is my first Streetfighter game since Street Fighter 2 Turbo on my old Snes. I’ve played lots of fighting games but only amongst my friends and mostly before online gaming was available. As a result I’ve never had any rigorous competition to measure how good I am. My SSF4 W/L is pretty much bang on 30%. As you’d expect from that sort of ratio I’m a really basic player. I tend to lose large streaks of games and then have a game or so where I easily destroy players that are worse than me. I’ve been trying to add a lot to my game by absorbing from these forums but, in the meantime, I’m getting a bit worse as I try to implement everything. Maybe my form will change soon.

I would definitly expect the average SRK forum member to be better than the less devoted players.

But nobody plays just once. These sort of numbers don’t crop up in real life. As sample numbers increase, the average will tend to 50. We’re talking a collection of random variables, which all tend towards the middle, making numbers like 0 and 100 very rare. And that’s not even considering the fact that people are more likely to play those of a similar skill level.

You have some good points, but let’s deconstruct them-

The poll is to all intents and purposes anonymous. People will either reply or they won’t. I’d give you this as a point, but not a very strong one.

Let’s not kid ourselves. People who are at the highest win levels, say, 71-100%, are hardcore players who don’t need to come to a message board for advice.

I can’t see that they would be skewed one way or another. Are people more likely to win/lose against the friends than strangers? Think carefully.

The poll is to all intents and purposes anonymous. People might exaggerate if they were kidding themselves and felt that they were winning more than they were losing. However, an exact score is given onscreen, so the misconception part can be taken out of the equation… This just leaves deliberate lying. And since nobody knows who said what, this leaves little point for making up a high number.

41% Not bad for my first fighting game.

Yea this ^. Its around 50% cause I random to much lol, I can’t see how some have above 85% but I guess they use mains mostly. My main has around 70-75% I think, but idc about w/l.

49.06% on ranked matches.

And how has everybody’s ratio gone up or down since they started…

Stats on Ranked :

Ken 65%
Sagat 56%
Seth 39%
Evil Ryu 42%

I don’t remember the exact numbers but it’s pretty close to it, needless to say I find it hard winning with Seth online.

Damn, almost a year later and I still do the same thing.

You could have posted it in the right thread so that you merge it on your own.
The url says page not found anyway.

Overall 65%
Sakura (AE Ranked) 71%
Evil Ryu (AE Ranked) 50%

54% :frowning:

Haven’t figured out my main yet though.

Mine is around 30% haha but that was when i sucked horribly at the game i havent played online in like forever since ive been practicing most of the time. Also i always lose cause i have lag and i cant seem to get my NAT type to open even tho ive done it before.

Overall: 66%
