Why are the capcom characters so horribly underpowered in the Vs games? Particularly MVC2. In MVC2 all the “top-tiers” are marvel guys. Sentinel, cable, magneto, storm, Iron Man, etc.
With the exception of T-Bone, the capcom characters are only Mid-tier at best. Some good mid-tiers like commando, guile and Jill. But no TOP tiers. Some characters like the shotoclones, charlie, and bison…its like they were there just to “fill space” up, and can’t hold their own much against good marvel guys.
It was capcom’s game, so why were most of their star characters like ryu, demoted to low-tier status?
Capcom did what they could do with their own characters, but as was discussed, characters pretty much need 8-way directional air dashes to actually compete well against most teams across the board and seems like only 1 capcom character (sim) actually has that. Capcom buffed their characters as much as possible, but limited by design, there’s not much else they can do to make their characters stronger without making them someone else. Capcom characters aren’t THAT bad, they aren’t unusable… just not at a high level of play.
That’s generally what happens when you try to convert characters that were designed for one engine and try to toss them into a game with a drastically different one.
Yeah, Capcom characters wheren’t initially designed for that engine, hence CotA. I guess over time the Marvel characters naturally had more options than the rest.
it has nothing to do with crossing over limitations, they can make a character as buff as they want. the only LOGICAL answer is they never intended the game to turn out how it did. the game was another one of those “accidents”. they didnt expect the game to turn out the way it did, as usual. capcom characters were fine in the other marvel games(especially xsf), they just didnt have a clue with mvc2.
I always thought they could have better balanced the Capcom roster (PARTICULARLY the Street Fighter characters) but making them do tons more damage whereas the Marvel characters keep their insane range, speed advantages, mobility, full-screen beams but do much less damage against the Capcom characters as well as suffer huge damage reduction.
Like say…the typical Spiderman or Wolverine combo does about 10-15% damage to Ryu or Ken but in the reverse case Ryu and Ken do like 20-25% in the average, super-less combo.
I think they made an attempt, like Ruy’s large fireballs, mild air combo ability, and his Beam-like Hadoken.
But they just stopped there, and didn’t continue to improve other aspects. Like giving them longer, quicker dashes, having their moves inflict more damage fairly equal to their marvel counterparts, etc.
Like Ryu’s Super hadoBeam should last longer and do more damage, and the super-hurricane kick should have wider catch-range as well as a bit more damage too.
And charlie and guile, what the hells with STILL needing to charge their moves? At least give them half-circle motions for the sonic boom&Flashkick. Their supers should do more damage also, charlie’s super flashkick does a laughable amount of damage. Also tack on 3-6 more sonic booms for charlie’s projectile super(I know you can mash to get out an extra set, but you shouldn’t have too).
