I experimented with X-menvsSF playing by myself on the netplay to see how things go but when I’m playing the game’s controls go slow.I move foward and it takes 1 second for it to move and about every other button I push?
Is it the server or the connection or somethin I don’t know about?
Delay. What kind of connection are you on and what ping do you get? The lower the better.
Somewhere around 270 ping.I’m using dail-up I suppose.
Can I lower the ping if possible?
Ouch on a stick…Dial up will always have alot of delay, just the nature of the beast I’m afraid. The best you can do is go to servers where you don’t get more than a 200ms ping, because any game is pretty much unplayable around there. A fast paced game isn’t playable with 1/4 of a second of delay, let alone a full second or more.
Damn…
So is it best to get DSL or some other fast connection, what do you suggest?
The fastest that’s available/affordable. Cable generally gets lower pings (is faster) than DSL. Stay away from anything that uses PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet).
I personally recommend AGAINST Sprint DSL from experience
But others might have had better luck/don’t live in the middle of nowhere.
I really need to stop with this free AOL disc shit :xeye:
So what places have this PPPoE (Point to Point Protocol over Ethernet) that I should stay away from?
and please name a few common providers with cable/affordable prices(people pc,AOL, comcast etc…)
I’m pretty computer-illiterate so I need help on these things
Check out http://broadbandreports.com and see what’s in your area.
Sprint/Sprintlink DSL uses PPPoE (at least out here in Central PA). I don’t think this protocol is as common over Cable connections.
Also if anyone mentions Satellite, promptly shoot them. Your ping won’t get under 500ms.
