Why Should You Care About eSports?

can I have an E-Sports rated at the HBO premium level?

Poverty WWE comment times a thousand. I have absolutely no idea why they think that crap is a good idea.
This is why folks getting all pissed at mlg was so silly. They were complaining about getting censored of all things.

This doesn’t happen in anime fighting games. Who should be playing more of those.

you realize this is all the case because that’s where the money is, right?

I don’t mind it.
What I do mind is leagues pushing shitty games.

yo esportss aaaaAAAaa

Honestly i dont care much for esports, and nor will i consider caring for esports.

Man, all these busters in here talking smack like they dont care about that shit. All of you know you love that bullshit.

“Ah man, fuck e-sports that shits for bitches! But damn I cant wait till I can watch that EVO stream!” - random srk chump

Electronic sports are awesome.

I wouldn’t care if people get excited for video game tournament streams. I personally don’t give a shit to watch video game tournament streams for hours (including Evo), but if that’s what people like to do, good for them.

The biggest problem I have is with the term ‘e-sports’ and the absolutely unnecessary glorification of the events and the people participating in them.

This makes me want to train even harder than I do now.

NO ITS NOT, and if for people who think it is messed up some of your teachers probably should have been paid less because they didn’t do they best job at how money or an economy work.

  • People get paid due to rarity of service and how much other people are willing to pay, and how many people are willing to pay for those services. As much as much as everyone loves teachers there are many many many times more people qualified to teach third graders than there are qualified to hold down even a third string spot on a pro team. Its a degree, every school gradautes a whole crapload of new teachers every year. How many pro athletes is each school pushing out?
  • Anyone doing something that fills a stadium or arena with spectators SHOULD get paid more than a teacher, Not because they are a better person or doing a more important job, they really aren’t, but because everyone in that arena bought a ticket to get in. 40,000 people paid $30 a ticket on average (1.2 million dollars per game from tickets alone) for every game of a season and you think each player shouldn’t be pulling in well over $100K. Wanting to rip someone off out of their fair share of tens of millions of dollars in revenue that they helped bring in because teachers make so much less is so dumb it actually makes me angry every time i hear someone say it.
  • If your pay comes from tax dollars you definitely shouldn’t be making athlete money and if the two were even remotely close it would mean teacher pay was WAAAAAY too high.

Teachers do a mostly thankless, critically important job that everyone should show more regard for and for which they are generally underpaid, but that doesn’t mean athletes are overpaid just because they make much more. The two have nothing to do with each other.

Even if anyone includes every top mvc3 player?

These niggas are entertaining people, they’re entertainers.
There is absolutely no reason to place a higher value on entertainment just because it’s popular.

As someone who played sports in high school, I can tell you, straight up, that people who play the popular ones get certain things.
I remember friday biology being replaced with videos of that night’s opponent,
I remember even second stringers getting a billion chances to study longer than normal students for quizzes, sometimes even getting makeups.

I’m not saying that people are bad for wanting to be entertained, or the entertainers are bad for wanting that money, but maybe our society is getting a little dumb when people who are brand fucking new to the sport (and bad) get paid more than 3 times as much as someone who is the best educator in their field.

its called capitalism. that’s how it works.

Oh I’m sorry I’m obviously retarded, don’t know what I’m talking about, and didn’t mention that in my post EVEN THOUGH I ACTUALLY DID SAY PLAYERS ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY IN MY POST.

Streaming is just the latest incarnation of the video coverage that tourney organizers have struggled to provide since the mid-90s. We didn’t call it “eSports” then. It was games then. It’s still games now.

What you’re saying is that society simply values what high-profile athletes do more than what teachers do, hence rewarding the athletes more for what they do.

Which brings us back to whatsisname’s point: that’s some ol’ bullshit.

So, you just dont like the fact that they call it “e-sports”?

I really dont give a fuck what they call that shit.

Its not a high value on entertainment, its that 40,000 serepate people are paying a low - fair price. Charging $30 for a days work won’t make you rich but 40,000 people paying you $30 on the same day will.
How does this not make immediate sense to everyone?

Okay lets back up to my example
40,000 people in attendence
$30 per ticket average
$1,200,000 in ticket sales from one game
If each player makes $40,000 a year you could pay every player after one game, two games tops depending depending on the sport. Even if you take football which has the lowest number of games you still make 18 million dollars after every player gets paid. Hell, even if you pay every single manager, assistant, ball boy, towel boy and water boy $40,000 a year youl’d still be left with millions and millions of unspent dollars and thats with no other revenue but ticket sales. **WHO GETS THAT MONEY? **

When you play a game and the company you work for is 1 million dollars richer at the end of the day because of it you should get a cut of that money, its fair and logical; as a teacher there aren’t many practical and more importantly long term ways for your actions to lead to your employer being a million dollars richer due to you showing up to work that day.

Usefulness to society has nothing to do with how much you should rightfully get paid. If you scratch you ass professionally and charge $1 for people to watch you do it and 40,000 people buy tickets to watch you scratch you ass, then you should rightfully make more money than a teacher.

Would you be more or less likely to pick up the electric guitar if the name were changed to “electric giggleshaft”?

heh heh. “giggleshaft”.

Giggidy.
