Why Real Bout 2 Over Real Bout Special? (Fatal Fury)

Just curious why RB2 is preferred over RBS. I used to own RBS back when I had an AES, and RB2 got by me so I never had a chance to play it. Can someone give me a quick rundown of the differences? Engine, characters, moves, etc. Is RBS broken or something? Thanks in advance.

RB2 is the newest incarnation. It’s also rebalanced for the better, has superior graphics/music, more characters, etc. Most of that is opinion mind you. But it is definately the latest incarnation of the real bout trio.

I wouldn’t say it’s a massive improvement in balance.

Billy got toned down a LOT from RBSp to RB2, but he’s still the best character in the game, easily. RB2 also has Rick, Xiangfei, and Alfred.

In general, I believe that RBS is superior in terms of presentation and backgrounds. The themes in RBSpecial are EXACTLY the same used in RB2. Unless you count the themes for the new characters.

But gameplay-wise…RB2 is mostly better. Because many characters that are crap in RBS like Yamazaki and Andy got totally better. Unfortunately, I feel they made some of my favorite RB characters like Franco and the Jin twins a lot worse. Also, plane-switching is totally changed in RB2. Unlike in previous Fatal Furys, you can’t do special moves or move freely in the another plane. Basically the entire plane is useless now except for dodging or continuing combos (hit 'em with a move that knocks into the other plane and get a free follow-up). But it’s too hard to use the other plane even to dash across your foe or even get out of the corner.

It’s wierd how the Plane-system in the Real Bout series went from 3 planes in Real Bout 1, to 2 planes to RB Special, to basically 1.5 planes in RB2.

um you can’t play alfred in RB2. You can fight him and you can use debug codes to play him but he doesn’t have some attacks or moves.

Yeah, Alfred is only the secret final boss.

Yeah but in RB2 top two are Geese and Krauser…

Chonrei is much stronger in RB2 then RBS. He has slightly less combo power, but he has a great confusion game, and a good keep-out game.

The other chars can beat the top tier in RB2 as well. My main chars are Hon/Bob/Chonrei, and I have little problems with Kims and Billys usually.

Rick Strowd and Xiangfei enter this one… he’s the guy who kicks Terry’s ass in the poster. Xianfei has a super that does over 99 on Potential.

Fatal Fury Battle Archives 2 - February 22

Now that this has an official date hopefully the SS collection, KOF 98, etc. will start to get theirs.

World Heroes Gorgeous, come on down!!!

fixed for you

Not a fan of Samurai Shodown/Spirits I take it?

Not that, it’s that Nests Collection has been delayed since like FOREVER =/

^ eeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

…actually, 99, 2000…but 2001? eeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

No one said shit about actually playing 2k1.

Ahh, I see. I personally can’t wait for the Samurai Spirits Collection, especially SS I and II. I have the KoF NESTs games on my Dreamcast, but I’ve been playing the same old crappy PS1 versions of SS I and II for the better part of a decade now. :frowning:

^ I hear ya, Bill Wood. Being able to own SS2 and 4, at long last will be a distinctive pleasure for me. At that rate, the only thing missing from this collection that would add to my pleasure would be SS64-2: Ashura’s Armada. I loved that game, and I would like nothing more than to have for my very own. Too bad SNK(-Playmore)'s probably long since lost the source code for that by now. …

As for NESTs? Sorry Saotome, but I can’t really bring myself to get excited about KOF Nests collection. Besides the fact that I don’t really care for the games released during those year, we’ve basically had a chance to get to play those games on both the DC and PS2 in the last few years.

At this rate, the only thing I could logically ask of SNK-Playmore would be if they could possibly make some deals with Sunsoft and Atlus(I guess, since they own the Technos properties now?), in order to be able to re-release some choice games like Waku Waku 7 and Gowkaizer.

And why isn’t there a Sengoku Collection yet, for that matter? It’d be all worth for Sengoku 2001 alone… :wgrin:

NESTS series sucks. Keep that in the closet. 98 and 2k2 FTW.

Really he’s that good? I always thought the best were Kim, Geese, and Krauser.

Nest Collection over SS Collection? :looney:

From what I remember 99 sucked ass, and 2000/2001 were released already. Are they not good ports or something?

I also heard that KOF 98 is not gonna be an aracde port but an arranged version with extra charcters and what not. I hope there is at least an option to go to original. :bluu:
