play SamSho
Twelve actually has a few things going for him IMO. Like pokes and well…I guess you could say jump ins.
Sean on the other hand doesn’t really have much going for him in my eyes other than decent damage. What’s often looked at as his best super-art actually puts him at a disadvantage once landed.
Atomiswave, prz.
True^^ Ken taunt after special(diago anyone?)
The game usually isnt balanced…but does have the potential to be. Some players can pull off their disadvantages
Kuroda-Q
Hayao-Hugo
YSB-Hugo
RPD Rookie-Q
yamazaki-Twelve
Pino-Necro
The list goes on, yes the percentage of winners are usually Yck.
Why do i play? I like the game, i dont find it so over whelming as some fighters…and all of my friends play it…and theirs no game better then games you play with your friends
P.S. Probably my longest post ever
I’m not participating in this thread. Everyone who posts in FGD on a regular basis usually sucks at games anyway, so take all their opinions with a grain of salt.
I personally hate 3s. I think it’s stupid. There’s tons of things in that game that just make me want to quit, but I can see and understand where people come from when they say they enjoy it. Some people get such a joy ride from parrying. For others, it dumbs down the game. You’re never gonna get a general agreement from either party.
The biggest reason to play 3s is the comp.
The biggest reason not to play 3s is because it’s strategically worse than every other popular game.
You see this when people move from 3s backwards to CVS2 or ST. People do the stupidest things in every situation, because 3s teaches so many bad habits. The only other game to teach such stupid habits is KOF, but KOF is different cause there’s ALWAYS a GUARANTEED counter to whatever bullshit you’re facing. In 3s, parry means you can never rely on anything, and you always have to keep doing stupid things to keep yourself from getting parried.
Lol. You say “you have to keep doing stupid things”, I say “you can’t do the same thing every damned time”.
I guess we can’t be BFF’s, now.
in other words you don’t like parry. just keep it short.
I can see how parrying and other elements of the game make it strategically worse than other games along with the balance(I was jking okey?) but I find that it makes the game more enjoyable as a whole because situations can be turned around much more frequently. I’d be interested to see if Gouki would move up in tiers if parrying would be outright banned.
I wouldn’t exactly put me in the same league as the others mentioned…
I just happen to play a character not too many others play as a main. Even mediocre Q players like myself will stand out in 3S because they’re aren’t that many of us around.
I started 3S back in 2001 because I liked the music and I enjoyed the characters but there was one that stood out the most to me…
After some time playing and losing to my friends who told me to give up Q, I said “If I can’t play as Q and win, I’m not playing at all”. So I did just that. Fast forward to 2004 when the whole Daigo parry deal happened and a lot of people started giving 3s a second look, including myself. So I got back into it again and I was still where I was back in 2001. I even tried reading strats but I have to SEE what’s happening not read it.
Then one fateful midnight, it happened…I stumbled on videos of Kuroda and that’s all she wrote for where I am today. He’s an inspiration with his style of fighting. He’ll be on team tournies where his teamates are getting slaughtered by one guy that’s a rushdown beast and then that guy has to fight him and Kuroda makes the guy fight on HIS level with his turtle style. I don’t know, I’ve always thought that was cool.
Like Deshiken is well known and he’s a beast with Ken but when he fought Kuroda, he had to slow down and sit around like Kuroda was because he knew he couldn’t just rush in on him
Oh no RPD your in there  dont you try to take your credit away
your sense of humor might of bumped you up a bit
Did you try telling them “Dragon Uppercut” hasn’t been invincible since ST?
Jamall is a better cos-player than he is a 3rd strike player.I know, I saw.You haven’t gotten that suit wrinkled have ya buddy.I’m tryn to rock that shit sometime.
thanks for the laugh because i needed it. strategically worse? i don’t think so. i guess playing mind games and having good mix up skills isn’t good strategy. also, if you hate 3s so much what’s with your avatar?
It isn’t. It is simply the last real Street Fighter to be released so it gets play. IMO 2nd Impact was a better game but even it wasn’t great.
Balance. Who ONLY plays balanced fighting games? No one that’s who. Because there isn’t a perfectly balanced fg. People bitch about balance as if they’re going to play with EVERY character. As long as the effectiveness between characters isn’t a great difference then there isn’t a big problem. Basically everyone gets played in 3s. It’s rare or next to impossible in high levels, but people can even fuck around and get a win with Sean.
Ken, Chun, Yun. Ok you know that either a)You have a good chance of winning with them. Or b) You have a good chance of losing to them. Just the Pistons, Spurs, or Mavs. But who do you hear saying, “I’m not watching the NBA! It’s not balanced!” Of course not. Unless you have exact clones competing, nothing is.
“Parrying is stupid.” Ok don’t play 3s then. But for those that still want to, have you heard of mix-ups or mindgames? Up your game and stop getting read like a book.
All these reasons for why not to play 3S or why it isn’t good is just a cop-out. Just keep it short and say you’d prefer something else, a game with a fighting system that YOU like. Most of the complaints are coming from people who barely played the game for two minutes. 3s is it for me. Fluid animation, cool fighters, nice speed and pace, awesome soundtrack, good presentation, comfy system which is easy to jump into, take a break from, and pick back up. This is why I play 3s.
I find that its such a natural extension of everything that came before it… The big fighters all tend to do something really well, ST offers a lot of meta-play, MvC2 is a tactical type of experience, A3 is focused on pokes and spacing.
3s to me is like a new type of experience while also having the solid nature that those 3 games have. Parrying was refined from NG and 2i and made a lot more useful… Its easy to interpret the visual feedback the game gives you as well. And while some people might hate the cast compared to SF2, i feel that they all really grew on me. And pretty much everyone can at least do SOMETHING beastly even if the some chars are a little easy mode.
Bottom line is that some people are just gonna find it fun to play. Back in like 2001 I was heavily into MvC2 after having MvC1 bring me back into fighting games. One day I made a trip to SHGL and finally played 3s against some better players and it was just the most fun i’ve ever had playing fighting games. I spent like 6 hours just observing and playing it and spent maybe 30 minutes on the MvC2 machines… I pretty much stopped playing MvC2 and converted to 3s after that.
Going back and thinking about it, NG was kind of underrated really. The whole 3 series is fun to me.
the only reason to play this game is for comp. bottom line, this is the only sf with a ton of comp everywhere. parry system is stupid and turns a game of reaction and skill into a guess-fest. i like the idea of parrying, but i hate the idea of losing lets say 50% off of a lucky 50/50 guess from some idiot whos playing random as hell. the idea of parrying to keep people from doing the same thing over and over is a great idea, this i can agree with. but, and this is a huge but, the idea of just guessing high or low the getting a successful parry into a 100% combo with certain characters = lame imo. you get rewarded too much for turtling in 3s, and this is the main downfall. i mean, i play the shit out of this game and its my main as of right now, but do i really like it?? hell no. game is boring and yun is way too overpowered.
btw, i see a few people saying sean sucks, and seans the worst… blah blah blah. not true i tell you. ill play sean vs a ton of characters for money if anyone wants.
but back to the point, the main reason 3s is played is for comp. there a alot of varieties in game play character wise. yun = full out offense, q = full out turtle defense. all styles are covered from top to bottom and the graphics are actually decent. enough ranting, pz
Well bottom line is that there’s just something about the game that’s classic.I have so many fond memories of going to the arcade, getting drunk/high and playing it w/ my friends, going to tourneys etc.I get bored of it kinda often, but every time I think of leaving it for good I get this sad, melancholy feeling because of all the memories I’ve built up.So I guess it’ll never die.Because Capcom will never make a Street Fighter 4, I’m calling it now.
thank you for speaking frankly about the game. i thought i was one of the very view that thought the parry system is gay.
