Well, everyone want’s to think they are a hero. Just look at the game of basketball. EVERYONE picked up a ball thinking they were Michael Jordan. With time, they learned that they weren’t and they had to switch up their game and realize that only ONE play can do what most others can’t. Some have that natural talent while some have to earn it from the ground-up. I see 3S as that kind of game. And with a slightly simple learning curve, you’re definitely gonna make some fairly good strides right from the get-go.
I do agree that Daigo helped bring 3S into a more bigger light compared to what it was earlier in it’s life-span due to the game being hard to find in a general area. Plus, there was the console release assist. But, that is neither here nor there in this topic.
But yeah, I do agree. The players did have to discover their own limit’s later on and just try to avoid being Daigo because they know they can’t be. It’s almost impossible to emulate Daigo’s play-style because it’s his own. When you look at ST, what do you notice? “Oh shit, that’s Daigo’s Boxer” or “That’s Daigo’s Ryu”. You can tell the difference between his game and every other player.
Yeah, and when you look at it: Did it help the scene or did it hurt it? I would say it was the former. Regardless if they were sheep or not. I don’t think no one is looking to be Daigo or Justin in this game anymore. It’s all about the competitive nature of the game. No matter how much a lot of think the game is bullshit. Just look at the number of entries for 3S at FRX this year. Wasn’t it like, over 100 entries? That’s rediculous for a game that was just there a few years ago in the scene and just looked at as another SF game.
I mean, just look at the Guilty Gear players in America. For some of them, it’s their first competitive fighter. Would you think that they were being sheep because they saw some top player do something out of this world and win with it? Not at all. I would probably qualify as sheep for GG because I saw some hot shit with Johnny and I wanted to start playing. On top of that, I also want to help the scene by supporting it. Granted, it’s a scene that is in desperate need of help, but it’s a great game.
Don’t get me wrong, you endure what you can because it’s probably the one game in your area with a strong following and you do want to be a part of the crowd because maybe your favorite game is not getting the play you want it to get. For some of us, we’re just gonna up and turn to the game with the most comp. Just look at my situation: I live in Marvel and 3S land(i.e. NYC). Do I play either game? A little 3S here and there whenever I want to, but not competitively because I’m not a real big fan of the game and prefer ST over it. The scene in Chinatown is just about nearly dead for most games outside of Marvel and 3S. So, you’re kinda forced to have to play these games. Will you find them fun in the long run? Maybe. If not, you just stick around for the competitive nature.
A good example of this is Sanford: I’ve heard him say he hates CvS2 so many times, yet he plays the game. Why? Because it still has that comp. It has a wide variety of players in it’s community.
Well yeah, they do. But, I don’t think they exist in huge numbers. Remember, we’re talking about scrubs here. They want in on the fun. You’ll probably get 2 or 3 that are gonna actually gonna excel at the game and become a threat to the top players.
Just look at your favorite SNK games. Just imagine if you had something like that going for you(i.e. Daigo parry) and the next day a shitload of players decide to wanna learn SNK fighters? I think you wouldn’t complain there. Sometimes, sheep are good for the community if they’re playing for all the right reasons. Although that’s hard to define, but I’m sure you understand what I mean.
I kinda find it boring as well, but I play Urien. So, the game is kinda fun when playing someone other than Yun/Chun/Ken.
