to everyone who thinks 3s graphics are jizz, and includes that reason for playing the game, I hope you all play ST competitively when the redrawn HD version comes out.
I don’t know man.Just because some people don’t play certain games really doesn’t mean anything.Pertaining to SNK games,alot of people either grew up on Street Fighter and didn’t want to switch over,or they can’t find competition for the game,because Capcom is so popular in the United States.
When it comes down to it people will play whatever they like and try to become as good as they can if they dedicate themselves,regardless of other factors.
This community would not be as strong as it was,if we didn’t give other games chances like GG,HNK,KOF,Melty Blood,and AH’s.
Man too many positive reps to go around in this thread…so much of the truth is coming out and I am glad we are all talking about it…
What I mean by the truth?
#1- There are too many followers/sheep out there that follow what the bandwagon is doing…case in point playing 3s just because it has competition…so then would you play “Circle Jerk” the Game on Rosie O’Donnell if it had competition??? Dont tell me you’d actually like jerking it on Rosie O’Donnell…
#2- Graphics dont make a game…they only enhance it.
#3- Even top players in a game can NOT LIKE the game…they play it to sharpen their fundamentals and SUPPORT THE SCENE…and some of course because its free money but not everyone.

Okay maybe not EVERYONE loves 3s, but alot of folks do. I’m pretty sure they not playing it because “Well everyone else plays it, I have to play too lol”.
Its fun and easy to get into for a large majority of people(including myself and most fighting game fans I know).
Of course, if you want to name off indiviual players that are really good at the game and think it sucks, be my guest.

Actually they do matter - because scrubs fatten 1) fatten up the tourney pots for the good players 2) they ARE your scene and 3) if you only have the hardcore sf players playing against each other and no scrubs, then how do you think our scene will progress? Besides we ALL KNOW that some of those scurbs end up being top players years later. So yeah good shit 
People play 3s because they find it fun. That’s all.
But SFFanatic I do know a lot of people that feel you gain more respect by winning 3s and feel you gotta earn that respect…which to me is like playing it because of the comp…
Trust me I live in 3s Nation too my friend LIKE YOU (Texas)…so I understand what you are saying but believe me A LOT do play it for that purpose…not everyone but trust me a lot do…for example you know 3s wouldnt be that big NOW if it wasnt for the Japanese in 2004…so what does that say??
3s was the same game in 1999 as it was in 2004 and now…yet all it takes is Daigo and K.O. and EVO Moment Daigo vs. Justin now to make people wanna play it?? :rolleyes: Everyone was shitting on it before 2004 right??? 3s was dead!! i used to play this game heavily a few years ago, until i realized everything i do in the game is suspect, due to guessing and second-chances. and i’m talking about red parried during…say…block strings, or parrying to get out a good chunk of the mind games, rewarding with high damage in return for a successful guess.

3S is deeper than that one side of the pool you were foolish to jump into for the first time when you were a kid.
No one thought 3S was shit back in 1999. It’s just that no one played it. Hell, no one played Street Fighter III in general, since everyone was too busy circle- jerking to Mortal Kombat and the versus series. Most video-game players didn’t even know Street Fighter III EXISTED! I didn’t see a SFIII cabinet until friggin’ 2000, and that was a 3S machine. Ther never was a NG or 2I machine here in Fresno. The Japanese scene essentially pointed out to America that the game existed; and thus we tried it out and enjoyed it.
Meh. Half these guys don’t even go to tournaments.
And scrubs may drive the scene, but only from a financial standpoint, and let’s be serious, if you’re playing SF for the money, you need a new hobby.
Scrubs fill the pot, sure, but they don’t provide any real comp, which is the reason I play SF.
EDIT- Gotta agree with DG on 3S’s history, too.
That game sat on the shelf for four years. Nothing changed from 1999 to 2004 except that a bunch of new players started playing it. Good players started playing because they saw the pots going to scrubs. That’s it.
The game didn’t suddenly become good overnight. Scrubs just started playing because they’re on Daigo’s dick, and good players started playing so they could take their money.
Well, you know, because some of us don’t want to sit in that corner of the room playing a game against the CPU while the main crowd is WAY over there playing everything and anything that lives and breathes 3S. That’s how the scene usually works. Whatever is hot in your area, is the game you’re gonna end up gravitating to because the comp is available. People wanna play to win and they’ll learn anything in order to get that recognition.
Sadly enough, a lot of people put graphics before gameplay.
You should really re-read your first point. These two go hand in hand.

What does that say? That it takes something inspirational to get the blood flowing for some competition. I’m getting back into CvS2 because of Wong vs. Nestor at EVO East. Does that make me a sheep? No. I just think that there is some sort of new life being breathed into the game and there is growing comp for it. There will ALWAYS be new comp due to something awesome that people see at a tourney. While we don’t treat all our games this way, there are some games that usually involve something ‘cool’ happening and making us hungrier to win.
I don’t think the Japanese really showed any one how to play the game. People knew how to play the game back then and there were substantial numbers for tourney entries back then. It’s just that, Daigo was that fire that relit everyone’s competitive spirit for a game that has a fairly simple learning curve compared to a lot of fighters on the market. Parrying is fairly simple and there’s a shitload of comp in key areas of the U.S. for 3S(and Xbox Live as well), for the new breed to get very good at the game.
We’re all sheep because we gravitate to whatever game has the most comp. No matter which way you put it about 3S, it’s an intense game and can be fun at high level(sometimes). A lot of people hate the game(like me, for instance), but we still play it because there’s comp for it.
Go play ST.
And more leaders? Again, people go for the game with the most comp. There are no sheep in the community. No one tells anyone else to play what game. Everyone makes their own respective decision by making simple obvservations.
I understand that Deathscythe because I am like you…I’ll play everything even if I am not too particularly fond of it…and I do understand your points you make good ones…
But Im just saying that ***for many Daigo was their sole inspiration to play Ken in 3s (or play 3s for that matter) and now everyones trying to be a HERO in 3s trying to Parry Chun’s Super… ***:rolleyes:
