Yep. Damn I wish I had a GIF of Double’s standing pose, her boobs would be so useful to better illustrate my point.
Ms. Fortune’s another good example. Momo pointed it out earlier, actually; on one level you’ve got this really cute cat girl. Okay, Felicia time, plenty of boners to go around. But then she removes her muscle tissue from her body and wraps it around her opponent. Everyone who was in it for the fan service goes “da fuck was that” while the rest of us laugh at them.
I’m not even going to bother trying to explain this again… I’m way too tired (ironically enough, from being up late last night playing the game at Texas Showdown then driving the hour home.)
I’m fully aware of all the things the game parodies, but i can tell you before I actually played it the only thing I knew was that most of the cast has ridiculous huge boobs…
I told myself I wouldn’t post again here, since I said my peace and I usually leave it at that.
But this thread has been going around in circles for the past couple of pages. So how about we all take 2-3 days off, get up, stretch our legs, grab a snack, and then come back to this topic when we’re all a bit more refreshed and relaxed ?
I’m not gonna argue that because you’re totally right
Satire is kind of my thing and I can typically find it in most of the things I enjoy. To be honest I wasn’t wholly convinced that I wasn’t lying to myself until Double was confirmed as a character.
To be honest, I’m kinda sick of how many basic mistakes Japanese game companies make and how resistant they are to change… things like bad button config kind of showcase this first and foremost. It’s getting so bad that the whole Japanese game industry might have to collapse in on itself for them to get the point, but nobody wins if that happens.
It’s particularly upsetting because Japanese games have this certain flair that is often missing from other games. It’s like… they do all the hard work on making the game, and then mess up the easiest parts possible, even with advice from people like Seth screaming in their ear. So even if Skullgirls succeeds in its own way, I just don’t really see any Japanese company listening.
That’s about the same level of satire as tubgirl… basic gotcha shock value
Ahad pretty clearly draws what he likes. A lot of artists do, I'd be the last person to complain about that.. he certainly has a humor element he likes, but humor isn't satire or parody.
I think I said it earlier, its just like how the SF2 designer has a thing for giant thighs or the Darkstalkers designer clearly likes giant-ass hands. It's what they sometimes call Author Appeal.
And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. I kind of feel like everybody is defending something that simply doesn't need to be defended by saying 'its parody!' Just let it stand on its own merit and aesthetic instead of making excuses.
Yeah I like how the roster combines cute/sexy and disgusting/mischievous. Bring out a lot of different thoughts and emotions. At least from me any way.
no reason for me to not buy it I mean for 15 bucks you get a solid roster, good netcode, and really good gameplay one of the best fighters Ive seen looks really different from the rest
We’ll all be too busy playing Skullgirls to post here. We may as well get it all out in the open now.
They’ll listen if people start buying other fighting games as well. No one needs to stop buying Capcom games in order to make them step their game up. If BB sold a million copies and people screamed to high heaven about challenge mode replays, button config at char select and training mode in lobbies then we’d actually get somewhere. As it stands… other fighters have been improving on their netcode(SCV/BB), single player offerings(BB/MK) and balance(KOF), but Capcom doesn’t listen because those games don’t get that critical appeal. Capcom will listen if people give other games a chance. I actually don’t blame them for skipping on the features/mechanics that some people want. No one buys the games that actually use them or add them unless they’ve got the Capcom name. Someone(most likely casuals since they make up the bulk of sales) has been sending Capcom mixed signals and the tournament scene is bearing the brunt of it all with fighters that just aren’t friendly to the hardcore crowd.
Really, iy’s not that I dislike the fact that it’s an all-female cast (I actually like that), I just don’t like how they’re portrayed as either grotesque of sex appeal.
I am going to try the demo regardless of my misgivings, see how it goes from there.
Well at least they’re doing grotesque for once because a lot of the girls in most fighting games are thrown out in some way for sex appeal or kawaii factor or whatever. Usually it’s the guys that are made to be grotesque and it’s usually only one or 2 of them of the entire game’s roster.
I like how the game is using its all female cast to create female designs that are not of the norm instead of just “oh hey we’re all trying to be as sexy as possible out here because every girl in almost every fighter is like that”.
See I got no problem with skullgirls artwork at all. On the other hand people defending a bunch of titties all over the place as something other than what it is, a bunch of titties, is just intellectually offensive. You can start bringing up the old Tex Avery cartoons except that you know, Jessica Rabbit and the dancer posted earlier were references to jazz singers and line girls, Wilma Flintstone is more of a victim of hard edges than unnatural curves, and as we all know Cerebella’s titties are an obvious clear reference at Circus gymnasts’ lack of titties. Obviously.
