Why people should support Skullgirls (even if they don't quite like it..)

That’s because everyone in Street Fighter IV has size 20 feet. Have you ever tried to tip over someone who is 6’6"? That shit is hard lol. You’d have the same issue trying to tip over a little person with clown feet.

Everyone has their own reason or process for picking characters. I wish I could just pick any character that looks cool, I’d still play BB but none of them really gelled with me.

That’s kind of my idea for how it works too. You start drawn in to a character because something appeals to you (visual, or in something like Marvel, fan appeal), and that gets you into the game (or not).

Then, for me anyways, you start messing around playing the game, experiment, and find the character that fits you and you really love playing, and then you’re off to the races. Or nothing fits and you drop the game

I’ve had that exact thing happen with more games than I care to think about ><

Well even if it is a parody that can’t be helped because man by design is attracted to such visualizations. If you don’t tell them it’s a parody or they can’t put it together on their own from playing fighting games for years, it’s either “wtf this shit is mad bitch/pedo” or “damn i’m playing dat bitch she got tittays”.

If they made all the characters look like cheeseburgers, fried chicken and pasta…you would get hungry sometimes while playing the game.

This is a valid complaint. The same could be said if the game was “Skulldudes” and all the characters were dudes. People would argue that it’s not catering to enough choices in character design if there’s no strong female role since female characters tend to fit certain archetypes that people like. I have no problem with this argument and the only thing that can really be used to counter it is that the game’s title suggest a game that is based around female characters (since I assume they’re the only ones that can acquire the Skullheart). It’s just as far as getting those people that MUST play a male character…they’re gonna have to really like the gameplay mechanics to get in.

That’s why I like Painwheel so much though because she’s the first female fighting game character in a while that I’ve seen that really isn’t made to be sexualized much at all. She has little teen chests and did hair in the back so you know it’s a female. Other than that she has metal extending from her body, and her muscles flex and expand to something that most people would find scary to see on a woman. She’s out to kill and isn’t worried about how she looks while doing it (even if it’s beyond her control). The mankind/leatherface thing really helps too because there’s no pretty face to associate her with. You look at her face and you know she wants to kill you. You can’t even look at her like “oh well damn I know Juri is evil but dat face soo sexy”.

Nah…you’re gonna fucking die cuz it’s Painwheel and she’s not designed to be pretty but evil like a lot of other feminine evil characters are. She’s like a female Blanka design wise if the scare factor was much more heavily emphasized on Blanka.

Peacock kinda fits into this too because she’s not out to be super glamorous or anything like that. It’s a woman and she cares about how she looks to some extent but otherwise she’s very mischievous and has teeth that you wouldn’t exactly want your woman to have.

SFIV was a huge success and people still hate Ono also. Just because you did something good doesn’t mean everyone thinks you can do no wrong. If you do things afterwards that they think are wrong…then they’re not going to care. Which was basically the case with Sirlin. He tried to take on the almost impossible feat of rearranging a game of the old guard of the FGC. Which is basically impossible to do because no one will ever agree on what’s right. It was everything that happened after the game’s release that got him messed up in the community. He’s also overly vocal about his opinions on other games which is both a good/bad thing.

It shows that he’s not afraid to see what he feels but it backfires because it makes him look like he’s just out to shit on games to other people. The general (especially casual) community really looks down upon trash talk of other games and Sirlin has no problem (like most of the old SRK guard) of going out on big public blogs and forums and talking about how he thinks certain Capcom and other fighting games are terrible. Which is about the biggest double edged sword you can carry in the community.

Which is why I hope MikeZ can have his opinions but at least convey them a bit more modestly so he won’t run into the same issues that Sirlin did.

Well the creeplord thing is an opinion I guess that I’ll just let you have. Darkstalkers was pretty creepy too for its time but I guess there’s a reason why Darkstalkers was a big hit in Japan and only moderately successful in the US. It definitely has its cult fans but it never got the glory in sales or support of SF or Marvel.

That’s also why I think GGPO is really important for this game because that way…even if I never go to a tournament again I can play good people with a netcode that will have my inputs work very similarly to the way they would offline. No having to always account for the fact that when I press a button, it will most likely come out on screen 3 and 4 frames after I press it compared to offline. Strong netcode will play a long way towards making sure that even if you’re playing that obscure new game with no pot monsters running to every local and major for it, you can still have a strong experience like you would offline.

…I honestly think that’s more because of America’ gaming market wants manliness and cool stuff.

Which makes sense considering that nearly all of America’s mainstream are really just alpha male badasses.

And this thread has turned into what these threads always turn into…hyperbole on one side arguing against hyperbole on the other side, with the overwhelming majority in the middle largely ignored.

Too many pedos on this site…

Fixed…

Now covers more than 90% of all American made movies/television.

Ain’t that the truth. I play Hakumen is BB because of his awesome looking armor suit (kinda reminds me of bio booster armor for some reason). I’ll be playing double in SG because she’s so grotesque looking and fascinating to me. I think within the SG roster they have tried to cater to many different tastes. A ninja, immortal catgirl, schoolgirl, military buff, experiment gone wrong, mutating monster, psychotic child.

This seems appropriate here…

Will try the game, think the game looks neat, nothing against art style/characters, can’t stand the salesmen on SRK though.

The guy in the middle with the super beard needs to be in Skullgirls.

I would probably play Skullgirls if it wasn’t a versus game. I just don’t enjoy playing versus games, regardless of how good they are.

Some of what Mike Z is doing is good, though, and I’d like to support his efforts to some degree. I do think a lot of what Mike Z is doing (things like tutorials) need to be done in a larger-scale game by Capcom to have any effect on the FGC, though. If I’m trying to get my friends into fighting games, none of them are going to be interested in picking up Skullgirls to learn. This is very much a “by the FGC, for the FGC” fighting game.

That said, I hope future fighting games will become more fully featured as a result of Skullgirls, even if that’s a particularly optimistic line of thinking.

I’m also rather turned off by certain people pushing the game so aggressively on everyone. It wouldn’t be so bad if they were just excited for the game, but so much of it is insulting the existing games (and, therefore, insulting the people who like those games), and it’s just such a turnoff.

Welcome to the world of a SFIV/marvel 3 player

Yeah it’s not that huge of a deal though because in the end…it’s just a sub section of the FGC selling to the other sub section of the FGC.

Like SFIV and MVC3 all that’s really going to matter is how many Joe Shmoe’s approve of the game. Which will directly be influenced by what top players think of the game of course. The biggest most primal thing needs to be that Joe Shmoe must see value in the basic features and show interesting in the characters/art. If that can be done then the hardcore FGC needs to show on streams that they like it and the Joe Shmoes will follow in support.

It all leads to the small time guys in the big numbers no matter which way you look at it. It’s good to get established players who understand fighting games well interested so you have more competitive people to play with. It’s just in the end that’s really all we’re doing. Selling to ourselves essentially.

It’s really about how many stream monsters put money in Reverge Labs’ pocket.

Basically as long as the Skullgirls forum never gets a thread open that states “Sub par sales for Skullgirls, Mike Z in hospital…Implications?” we’re gonna be doing alright.

ALL YOU WHITE PEOPLE LOOK THE SAME! :nono:

On topic: Is Mike Z and crew going the MK route and patching every now and then? Just wondering because I always hear two sides to that argument of “let it rock and see how the game develops” or “out with the bad and in with the good” kind of mentality to the changes. Since he’s an avid mvc2/anime game player, is he leaning toward on the side of letting tech develop, or does he view it from a developer viewpoint that he has the ability to make post-release changes?

People give shit to every game for every reason.

Yeah if I remember the Guilty Gear days…most of the SF players in my area would just give it shit about random things like the fact that it caters to anime people and how there were trannies in the scene and blah blah weird people stuff.

To me this is just like the beginning of Guilty Gear all over again with a new storyline and engine mechanics. Almost going through the same shit.

Read my sig and find out for yourself.

Canopykingdom.wordpress.com for all your Skullgirl needs, minus the supposed creepy fandom~

Absolutely not touching this thread, imo this thread is a bad idea, just like it was done with SF4, UMvC3, Ah1/2/3, Ougon, Akatsuki, Melty, you get the idea.

Try the game out guys, it’s fun!

Stream monsters hate fighting games. Why else bash the game that’s on instead of waiting for the game you care about like a normal person?
