The thing is, they don’t. No one is forcing the community to play AE, or any FG in general. If that were the case, no one would ever play old games anymore.
And fuck tournaments used to be pretty big back in the days before streams to. Once again fuck Stream Monsters and fuck balancing for spectators.
What are you talking about? None of those people you mentioned have anything at all to do with organizing major tournaments.
Listen you’re focusing way to much on who I am instead of what I’m saying. Again you ignore the point I bring up about Japan and focus on the fact that I am a stream monster and just miss the point completely. You act like you know everything about me and you can build an imaginary person just because I said I was a stream monster for SF4, I supported the local scene for MvC2 for years and I used to play in my local arcades( CTF, Port Authority) I just don’t have time and money to go to a major tournament. Seriously stop being a tunnel visioned moron, if the tournaments feature the Twins and Fei in top 8 every tournament then there’s no hype, whats the point?
Well that’s the point of this thread, we HAVE a choice. Everyone is calling Azrael a pussy because he’s throwing out that option instead of being a masochist.
The streams are huge what are you talking about? CEO tripled in size in nearly a year. How are tournament organizers not benefiting from streams if they get more people to come to their events? Also streamers making more money = more money to travel to other events and provide streams for said events.
You think new people go to major tournaments without watching a stream these days? That’s like saying " Let me pay a ticket for a basketball game and not even watch a single game on TV"
Streaming is huge for the community.
the point is, that it is still hype for the guy actually playing the match, or the guy aspiring to play in the match. who really cares what the people watching think. does it suddenly become less fun for the guy playing becasue the viewers are dissatisfied?
the only time any of that shit will matter is if people stop playing. people will still play if you and whoever else decide to not watch
and i dont know that japan even has a stream monster equivalent, so yes, fuck that point. it has nothing to do with my view on spectators
People are calling him out because as of now we don’t have a reason to even consider Super was a better game. “Yun is OP” is not a reason. Now “Yun is gamebreaking and even if we banned him it would still be worse than Super” could work, but that’s not something we can determine in 6 months.
Again, it’s advertisement that sprung FROM the popularity of the genre, not the other way around. CEO didn’t get bigger because of streaming, it got bigger because FGs got more popular.
And you talk as if streams are the only way to see matches.
I never said they weren’t benefiting from them, but it’s still a side business, huge or not. It’s advertisment, not the main event. Following your baseball logic, would baseball cease to exist if games weren’t transmitted via TV?
If the game looks boring/unhype less people are going to pick it up and if the game is too broken for the current players they will quit the game as well so yes people will stop playing. Look at the top SF players, a lot of them don’t even like the game they just play it because its hype and they get money from it so they still practice, for a lot of them if money and hype weren’t on the line they wouldn’t practice that shit. And I think you missed my point about the Japan thing but whatever.
“People are calling him out because as of now we don’t have a reason to even consider Super was a better game. “Yun is OP” is not a reason. Now “Yun is gamebreaking and even if we banned him it would still be worse than Super” could work…”
How long does it take then? I mean its not like this a completely NEW and different game it’s still Street Fighter 4 with 4 new characters and a few balance changes. Does it take years for a community of thousands of players to figure out if one version of the SAME game is better or not? Japan might be there already, I’m sure they can decide for themselves if the game is better/worst by now.
“Again, it’s advertisement that sprung FROM the popularity of the genre, not the other way around. CEO didn’t get bigger because of streaming, it got bigger because FGs got more popular an”
You’re acting as if streaming has nothing to do with fighting games getting more popular. Didn’t g4 televise Evo? Like how is streaming not directly boosting the fuck out of fighting game popularity? Popular fighting game comes out > New fans> More players for tournaments> Bigger tournaments> Streaming shows Advertisement for tournaments> Bigger tournaments because of more players> Inspiration for more major tournaments.
"And you talk as if streams are the only way to see matches.
I never said they weren’t benefiting from them, but it’s still a side business, huge or not. It’s advertisment, not the main event. Following your baseball logic, would baseball cease to exist if games weren’t transmitted via TV"
Right now it is the way to see matches, hell even most youtube recordings come from tournament streams. And your example is flawed if the baseball games weren’t transmitted via TV then only the players would know about the game and eventually the game would die out because nobody knows about it or would care to play it. Don’t give me the bull about how Baseball lasted for 100 years, if you’re cutting out media completely it would be dead because they even had newspapers and radios back then. Streaming is the new form of media for the internet.
Fossil? Look at my join date.
Considering how collectively stupid our generation is, I should consider that a fucking compliment.
So you’re asking for us to go back to the game where Guile mirrors are a common place.
Look man, here’s the thing. The dumbass collective a.k.a. stream monsters got bored of Super. Not because it was a bad game, but because the newness wore off. People wanted to see new shit, like Marvel 3 or Mortal Kombat. In fact, people wanted to see AE, despite it’s rumored “unbalanced” nature, because it was new. You know what’s not boring? New games.
As far as thinking: less balanced = lack of hype = community doesn’t build itself…that’s an incredibly diluted stream monster notion. Outside of your 640x320 world, you must realize there are people who look at our hype moments and our best matches and they still don’t understand what the big deal is. The attraction of our community is the presentation of fighting games themselves. Seeing one character more often than others isn’t going to stifle whatever growth there may be. Seeing 10 characters often versus seeing 5 isn’t going to help us. Ultimately what you describe is a blown-out-of-proportion nitpick, not a dealbreaker for any person who will eventually go to tournaments or even watch streams.
Fucking Vanilla SF4 started the revolution anyway. A lot of character variety in that game, right? Have some goddamn perspective. All this about AE being broken is hilarious, considering that the first iteration of the game had the compliment of “weakest top tier character ever.”
I don’t know even what to say to this.
Is there a Baseball scrub quotes equivalent?
The thing is, technically speaking AE isn’t a new game. The only relevant “newness” in AE is 2 over powered characters that will be in major tournemant tops for a long time. The other improvements such as buffs & nerfs for the old characters are just not that important because those 2 simply destory them. So you basically get a game with the same graphics same game engine and 2 top characters with similiar move sets. Tell me how is that not boring after a couple of months? I mean just take a look at the leaderboards. How many people are on the board compared to SSF4?
As some people have said before, AE is just a Capcom marketing decision of killing SF4 seriers before their new game comes out. The more / faster people get bored with this game, the more / faster copies of new game (SF x TK) will sell. This is just that simple.
This is a little bit OT though, because the topic is about going back to SSF4, which is impossible to happen. I mean EVO is sponsored by Capcom and do you think they’d pay money to a tournemant which indirectly tells people their latest game is not that good compared to the previous one?
Capcom didn’t need to kill SF4 to sell SFxTK.
A lot of people who play SF4 already hate the game.
the hell are you talking about. none of the top 3 really destroy much of anyone. yes there are a few 7-3s sprinkled in for certain character types, but stop acting like every matchup is 8-2 for the higher tiered character. that shit is flat out disgusting with the amount of arm flailing bitch madeness coming out of that line of thinking
theyve got 6-4 advantages over a good number of characters, but those matches are far from unwinnable
and for the last time those characters will be in top 8 because the best players are playing them
Did I say “unwinnable” or “8-2”? This isn’t marvel. Having a bunch of 6-4 against most of the cast mixed with a few 7-3 matches is already a problem in SF.
And have you ever asked youself why those players drop their mains and pick the top 3? Because those players are just the best, they know better than anybody about fighting games. They just know developping some so called anti-Yun / anti-Feilong / anti-insert_top_char_name_here technique doesn’t worth the time and effort. I mean everybody has a life outside games so why play hard when you can just play smart (by joining the army)? Then you will see tournemant tops flooded with the twins.
Sure you don’t have to believe me and I know it’s pointless to convince somebody on the internet but let me just say sooner or later it will happen and you will believe it.
yeah, i dont doubt that it will happen. most players go to the path of least resistance. so thats not really a suprise if the game is around for any amount of time. i dont understand why anyone with a pair of balls would quit playing because of it tho.
you either join the army or you fight against it at some point. and that is the same in any fighting game no matter how well balanced. some characters will be better, and you need to be prepared to fight those characters, or learn to use them yourself. a lot of people are acting like joe schmoe from bumfuck nowhere was showing up to majors, and rollin niggas up with some flawed low tier character in super.
but dont act like you didnt use the words overpowered, or destroy tho. those words imply unwinable matchups. 6-4 does not equate to overpowered or destroying anything. having 6-4 matches is not a “problem in sf”.
the only problem is the mindset that you either cry till something gets easier for you, or you quit because of refusal to adapt
Good players gravitate towards strong characters? Color me surprised.
We saw so many mid-low characters making it far after all.
Sometimes I wonder what scenes some people here have been following.
Why don’t people just ignore the guys that clearly know nothing about the scene?
If you stop paying attention to the random stream monsters, maybe they’ll go away.
truth
And how does “toughing it up” in a GAME have anything to do with balls LOL? My impression of people talking like this is they must be 15-22 yo kids who are still recieving checks from their dads.
My defination of “op” or “destory” is based on how easy to win games with one character, not how ultimately strong one character can be. If I spend 4 hours a day playing Yun and I can beat somebody’s Juri with 8 hours per day’s practice then the character I’m using is OP. That’s my view of tiers in fighting games.
Cry? How about call it “feedback”? I mean where do you think Capcom get their data from for rebalance?
Well if you think SRK is all about the United States of A and foreigners better be silent then just say so … oh wait you are not the mod.
But why do you even bother to post in this thread which is started by somebody who lives in Japan and obviously follows Japanese scene?
I believe it. I just don’t care.
Who the hell said anything about the US?
I’m talking about obvious stream monsters saying a bunch of bullshit. This has nothing to do with territory. This is about actual players, as opposed to people that just spectate.
Actual players are going to play the game. Actual players KNOW twins aren’t destroying everyone in the game. Monsters spew off a bunch of bullshit that sounds kinda true, and try to pass it off as fact, like they know what they’re talking about. It’s beyond transparent.
Here are some facts, for Tougeki this year, Yang is the most used character for qualified teams so far.
Up next? Sagat. He’s one player behind Yang.
After that is Fei, trailing Sagat by a significant margin, and Yun is after him. Bison is after Yun, trailing by one player.
Ken, Mak, Viper, and others are making good showings.
Going by RESULTS, twins aren’t dominating at all. They don’t rape the cast. They have matches where they lose, and tough matches in other spots. The people complaining are the ones that just like to sound right, despite not playing in any real way.
Twins are doing well in Japan. No quesiton… but so is Viper… so is Bison, so is Ken, so is Sagat… so is Makoto… so is Abel… so are a few characters. It’s just not as monotonous as you monsters want to make it seem. Twins aren’t dominating by any stretch of the imagination. They are winning… yes… dominating? Not at all.
Every game has good characters. AE has good characters. People will play them… people will win with them… people will lose with them. Stop bitching… especially if you don’t even really play in tournaments.
