Why not make Super the tournament Standard?

I spent 2 hours a day for 1 week practicing dps(dp from couching, dp from neutral, walking back, walking forward) in ST. The next week I destroyed my cousins Ken, 20-6. Previously he would be beat me 20-12. Ryu must be OP in ST.

If someone is going to take one thing away from this thread, it should be this sentence.

All I have to say is this. The elitist mentality in this community doesn’t get it. If you are so good to act elitist, you should be welcoming every single person whether a stream monster or scrub into the community because all they are going to do is… GIVE YOU MONEY. Streamers bring on sponsors who donate pot bonuses which goes to the good players. Scrubby players who come to tournaments with no chance of winning give money to the top players. Ask Poker professionals how they are doing every since all the casuals started playing poker? Look at the pot size differences.

If eventually people find Yun lame, boring, and hate playing against him so they won’t play in the tournament or watch it, then you make less money as a good player. I’m not saying Yun should be banned because he can be counter picked. I’m just sick of the mentality of this community that you deal with shit that most people hate because, “thats what we did.” Doing what we did caused us to not get a single fighting game for years that was worth a damn. Maybe its time to change a bit. I’ve noticed that in a lot of cases the top players all do a good job of being nice to the people who talk to them. Cause they get it. They know that random scrub talking to them like a fanboy is making them money.

Some people have a higher price than others.

There is no money in fighting games. The absolute best player on Earth can make maaaaaaaaaybe 25K in a year, as long as he NEVER loses.

SF is not going to get as big as poker… ever… so fuck catering to a bunch of annoying know-it-all fucks. If I was Daigo… i might not mind this stuff… but as a player that stands to make maybe $1K from SF this year, I really don’t give a shit.

What money? You think every tournament player is Justin Wong status?

If Capcom released an AE patch that made every matchup 5-5, you think that there will be a surge in interest in Street Fighter IV? No. ** I can win with Hakan now, tournament entrants are going to quadruple now and the evo 1st placing winnings will be a million dollars! LOL **

What people don’t realize is that you’re arguing so passionately (and out of your ass) that the game is “unbalanced” because you are already have an active interest Street Fighter, and you’re fucking complacent. If Yun/Fei Long/Whoever the fuck is weakened, are you going to show up at tournaments tomorrow? Make a levelup ranbat equivalent in your area? Stop fronting, nothing is going to change. You’re just whining because you see Yun on a stream more often than not.

Dealing with shit isn’t even a new generation vs old generation problem. We dealt with Vanilla Sagat. It’s more of a matter of “do you actually know how to** play** fighting games?”, so hell yeah expect “elitism” when a bunch of know-nothing people tell us what’s best for the scene.

Also about sponsors, you spectator really have a misguided sense of importance. You should tell me that those NOS girls that showed up for Revelations/Norcal Regionals were purely there for the stream. It couldn’t be for the actual people who went to the tournament, right?

Dude where did you get your facts LOL? The pool is still on going and based on current result (some pools have finished) here:

http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi/game/51604/1301765328/

The top3 used characters that made out of pools are … the top3 (twins + feilong).

The twins relative strength in this game is being highly marginalized by well known members in this thread. Partly due to the argumentative nature of the thread trying to smack some sense into those who think S-tier characters are going to ruin the SF4 scene. Surly it wont. sf4’s death will be because of sf4 and the better games potentially on the way, not Yun or Yang or even Fei and that annoying bitch Viper.

But make no bones about it, they are ahead of most of the cast by a wide margin, so please lets not act like PRO PLAYER X could have used lets say Cody but instead is choosing a twin just because its the cool thing to do or new characters are fun to play with money on the line. :bluu: They are moving to the better characters to give themselves the best chance to win vs other PRO players, with same said money on the line.

I think super made tourney players feel like they had a wider variety of characters to choose from to make noise. AE shortens this list. But I for one don’t think its a bad thing. I hate the large roster and cringe every time someone gripes that fucking Rolento or another goddam 4-5 characters arent in the game. (Tho seeing R.Mika’s titties would be nice)

How is this NOT a bad thing in fighting games? If this isn’t that bad why does Capcom have to nerf Sagat in super and why does Netherrealm have to nerf Kunlao through patches after patches in MK9?

i’m a dudley main and I agree!

They didn’t have to do anything. Just like how they didn’t have to make AE more balanced than Super.

Sorry. I got my info mixed up… my numbers refer to the characters used in qualifiers… not just the winners. My mistake.

In an argument talking about how the game is played at high level, my numbers still say something. It’s not the Twin-fest people make it sound like.

As for actual qualified teams, as it stands, not that many teams have qualified yet anyway.

As for the twins relative strength, yeah… they’re clearly very good… but they just aren’t running away with the game… I’m sorry. If you look at rankings in Japan… back in May, before Capcom switched up the formula for Grandmaster/Master/Ultimate Master, there were already 9 Viper Grandmasters… that was more than Fei, IIRC. There are a number of Sagat players doing VERY well… there are Ken’s out there doing very well. I just don’t think twins are running away with the game.

As somebody that had to fight A-Bison, SF4 Yun just doesn’t move me…

Capcom didn’t have to nerf SF4 Sagat… they did it because people like you kept bitching, despite the fact that Sagat wasn’t dominating competitive play at all.

But they did, didn’t they? So it means patching the game to cope the mass audience is good for business. And unless AE is designed as the killer of SF4 as is rumored, why don’t they want it to keep going?

Then what does that mean? It seems for Capcom Joe average who-know-shit people actually contribute more to their business than a small group of elites.

Its both. Advertisers push their product at the tournament and through the stream. If you watch both RevLA and CEO you would have seen a constant bombardment of NOS advertisement on the stream. Plus the NOS girls being there became a talking point for the stream commentators who mentioned it constantly. For an advertiser the stream of thousands is far more important than the hundreds of players on-site because it impacts far more potential customers. They can’t do one or the other they have to create a marketing experience from the event so you remember the product.

Ask the players of any professional sports league how important the spectators are. If no one gives a shit, you aren’t making any money. Ask the Starcraft players or the LoL players who get 100k+ people to watch a simple ass game like LoL where you can’t even watch everything important that happens on a stream at the same time. Yet the sponsors create huge pots for the players to play because of these people.

I’m not sure that Yun really is going to ruin the stream. I mean people think Xfactor/Phoenix ruins Marvel yet it still puts up the highest view counts. I’m saying that scrubs and stream monsters matter. To think otherwise is clueless. Why do you think that Markman is on the stream so much? If AE viewers start to dip later on for whatever reason below the numbers they used to have for Super. It might be something to consider. To dismiss it completely is absurd.

Wait wait wait…let’s just consider what will happen if we switch back to Super. According to the logic of some people in this thread:

  1. We switch back to Super
  2. The hype will be killed because Abel/Guile/Balrog will be represented too much on stream
  3. This we lead me to miss out on my future madcatz sponsorship and my chance at a pot with 100,000 dollar bonus.

Stream monsters!

Yeah… what’s your point?

Obviously, Capcom needs to market to a larger segment… my argument is that you scrubs don’t notice the difference half the time, and you’re gonna whine anyway, so what’s the point in changing the game for you? Casuals are gonna buy it, and bitch, regardless.

i loled.

honestly, i think the fantasy pots matter more to the stream monsters than they do to the people showing up to the tourney

I wanna be like HAV when I grow up.(get taller)

EDIT: Does anybody else find it ironic that a thread made about a game being a TOURNAMENT standard is made by a guy that admits to only playing the game casually?

Calling us a professional sports league? I’d hate to burst your bubble, but we aren’t making money to begin with. Nerfing Yun/Switching to Super isn’t going to turn this scene into Starcraft/Poker

I’m not sure you quite understand how a business works.

Also, yes stream monsters are very important when regarding sponsorships. A few hundred people on location at a major pales in comparison to a company’s regard for over 10,000 viewers.
