Was doing some pondering, what would happen if SF3 got the same Hyper edition treatment that SF2 got. Take all three games and mix them together and let you choose which version of a character to pick.
This would open up the tiers a great deal for the game, at the very least it would put more characters up there with Chun Li
Looking at a tier list I found for 2I and 3S (cannot find one for the first game)
2I
Top Tier
Ibuki
Gouki
Upper Tier
Sean
Yang
Ryu
Middle Tier
Dudley
Ken
Yun
3S
Top Tier
Chunli
Yun
Upper Tier
Ken
Makoto
Dudley
Yang
Middle Tier
Gouki
Urien
Ryu
Oro
Ibuki
Elena
Now overlap them (yes I know it wont quite work that way, but this is just a starting place for discussion)
Top Tier
Ibuki
Gouki
Chunli
Yun
Upper Tier
Sean
Yang
Ryu
Ken
Makoto
Dudley
Middle Tier
Urien
Oro
Elena
This looks like a much more solid Top and High tier list for a more varied tournament scene.
Would be interesting to see what happens when the first SF3 game is applied to this.
Would be a nice inclusion on PSN and XBL, would give both 2I and 3S fans access to their game on current gen consoles while also bringing something new to the table for everybody.
It would also depend on what game system the character’s were in. Pretty sure 2I Ibuki would have to make a few adjustments in 3S because of red parry. Also regular parrying has slightly different timing.
Also 2I Ibuki/Akuma are not the same on Arcade and Dreamcast so I’m assuming that’s arcade balance you’re talking about. Also other things that might affect tiers are that Ryu could stock two Denjins in 2I/NG, damage was slightly higher in 2I, in NG/2I you could change supers every round…
Also 3S Akuma is better than 2I Akuma (most def the console version anyways) barring the systems. He has demon flip for mix-ups, the existence of Kara throws and raging demon set-ups, etc. 2I (both console and arcade) don’t have those tools.
Its not cut and paste like you seem to describe it.
Besides even if this compilation turned out good, pretty sure 3S fans as a whole would write it off as some casual-only game or not serious. Because we all know that 3S is flawless and that there is no need to change anything about it. Its the third game in the series so that means that it is pretty much perfect and needs no revision.
I expected it wouldn’t be cut and paste, but I just wanted somewhere to start.
2I guys losing Red-Parry seems like a fair nerf to me, in exchange 2I seemed to have more juggle options.
A bonus for the guys who are low tier in every game would be nice, make an extra version of each with slight tweaks to health/stun/super bar for instance. I could see that, I know some people who would like a slightly better Q or 12.
So I think what you’re looking for is more like a SF3 HDR that tries to perfect the series using elements from 2I and 3S? That’s not really Hyper SF3.
Hyper would be being able to select the various versions and accepting their systems at the start. Like if you selected 2I Ibuki, you got 2I Ibuki with no tweaks or changes, and you could fight 3S Dudley who could Red Parry your stuff and all that.
Well…actually it would. To make a game like that work, some properties would HAVE to be changed, like I said its not copy and paste. Otherwise the game would be more than broken; it wouldn’t even perform correctly I think.
Like the NG characters, you’d obviously have to use the Dreamcast version and not the arcade as a basis since the DC version removes a few of the infinites; can’t keep those. But, how would you make up for those characters? They have smaller movelists and less options and nothing to really compensate. They don’t even have EX moves. Well, I suppose they could keep some of the crazy stuff like comboing shin Shoryu off a P grab or something.
i think a straight up HDR style remixing would be better than this, personally - with the goal of bringing the weaker chars up to speed rather than nerfing the most powerful ones. Twelve can’t combo well at all, so why shouldn’t he just do more damage, for example?
I think if a SF3 Hyper Edition came out with netplay on the consoles a scene would develop for it and it would certainly get included in EVO. I know I would personally play the hell out of it.
Hyper Edition to me means:
-Exact Sprites and Palettes
-Orginal stages and themes from each game
-Intact Systems. This means NG and 2I characters use f+P to throw, and 3S uses LP+LK. The same goes for everything else like red parries and damage.
While the idea of a Hyper Edition is appealing to me, I would really like to see a 3S Remix more. I don’t really need the multiple versions of the characters, but would rather have one more balanced version of the entire cast.
My 3S remix would be pretty simple
-New HUD if the game is given the widescreen treatment, which it most likely would.
-overall gameplay changes to each character to make the tier list a little closer together
-ability to select the 2i stages and themes
-option to create your own soundtrack from songs on your console
It’s not really a hard project to conceive of, and my money is on that Capcom will get around to it eventually.
If they wanted to keep Sean strong and still be in canon they could have just gave Ryu and Ken more moves and stronger attacks. Keep Sean the same . All they needed was a slight boost to stay in canon.
That’s the official statement for Capocm weakening Sean they said he was too good because of the story so Capcom are the idiots in this situation. They said Sean couldn’t be as strong as Ryu and Ken because he was still training and was a student.
Wow, didn’t think Capcom of all companies would do something so stupid. Sounds more like something Mr. “Wrestlers can’t beat ninjas” Itagaki would say. or Namco with that whole “Mishimas must be the best characters because they are the best in the story” lmfao
No need to tweak. Many characters were much stronger and had more options in NG than in 2I or later. Alex for instance had far more options to connect his grabs.
Hyper-Anniversary SF2 didn’t change anything other than removing glitches (ie handcuffs and freezes) and it worked out fine. CE characters competing at the ST level without any tweaks.
