I’m still not sure how you can get out of frying pan range, or get enough reload openings without using your assists alot.
In total agreement with Geronimo about throwing - a couple of throws, and a couple of AAA hitting makes things a bit easier.
So you throw 2 swords at sj height to stop sent flying, and make sure you have knives to throw if he sj from across the screen? (in conjunction with trapping/zoning on the ground)
i agree starting the trap is the hardest part. it’s usually just a lot of patience. usually when i’m waiting, i try and dash under a flying sentinel for the magic series into air grab combo which will give u free swords.
you get reload openings after sent is in blockstun from your knives or your drones.
sorry i don’t understand your last question…throw a sword or two at the sj height to stop his sj height, and be sure to quick drop right after to further control the match. if he stays on ground chip him with your remaining swords+drones. i think you got the idea.
interesting. so basically it’s a total match of attrition and your main goal is to NEVER get hit by sentinel, but to block his frying pans and shorts instead while trying to even out the chip damage you’re taking with sentinel’s normals with spiral’s swords? sounds simple, but i’m sure it’s extremely difficult to do.
and it does seem like spiral is too assist dependent. if they bait out your cable then do something like frying pan + capcom, then cable is hurting big time.
and i don’t understand how spiral beats cable so badly. sure you can teleport out of AHVB, but when can you SAFELY load swords? and it still seems like a trade off of chip damage if you’re blocking random grenades and lp viper beams and sent drones.
peace
PS- madbooface, i remember you RAPED me with MST at midwest championships, and juicy G said to take it easy on me since i’m still learning the game in depth, so this is why i’m asking all these questions. so your (and geronimo’s) responses are greatly appreciated. i’m a big cvs2 player though, so i’ll field any of your questions in that game no problem:D.
hi popoblo,
i had just streaked a bunch of cali and ny players and was still feeling hot, sorry if it seemed like i played super hard on you on purpose!
you’re right about the main strat I use against sentinel, just play a chip game(usually if the match becomes a blocking game, sentinel is dead with 50 on the timer…so you can see the kind of patience this strat takes). use and each every sword wisely to keep out-zoning him. i try not to call assist unless sent is safe, because like you said spiral’s biggest weakness is her dependency on assists.
on spiral vs cable: some cables just like to wait for you to call out swords then shoot you. i just say fuck it and rush him w/o swords which is why imo spiral really owns cable. wait for his assist like capcom for example, counter assist with cable to launch him up and it’s a one on one game for a few seconds…in that time you can just c.lk (which has tons of priority over cable’s normals) and play throw games. c.fp also works really well since it goes under cable’s s.fp. rushing with swords is even better cause then u can do crazy combos!
No they’re not. They’re next to useless. (right after her QCF+Fierce ) Spiral has much better uses for meter, and if she doesn’t use them, leave them for character no2.
True, but couldn’t you Guard break if they tech the Hk throw?
maybe jab, quick drop and call AAA?
or even just go for a straight ground throw.
Just a question in regards to Commando, when you counter him in lightning smash xx Captain sword (qcf+2p) xx Hsf - have you noticed that the captain sword doesn’t always combo to let you land the HSF?
I’m thinking of using commando against sent teams and cyclops vs magnetos. Cyclops seems to help better against magneto (plus magnetos usually paired with storm).
Yeah, that’s a thought, but instead of wasting a level for power up and a combo opening on it, you can either snap the guy out, or combo her other supers.
If you start the combo without a ground hit, and you happen to be in the corner, I think it’s a good idea against techers. But you don’t need the power up super.
Captain sword is a piece of shit. Lol. Not true, but it’s not very reliable.
I think the result is character specific. Could also have to do with the screen position.
I rarely do the Capcom counter XXsuper XX DHC, so I’ll have to try it a bit first. Did you notice it behaving the same on assists?
I think that captain sword has to hit at a certain height (and horizontal distance for it to combo), but someone in the commando thread said it is character specific as well. Haven’t tested it myself on assists to be sure.
Would be good if you could consistently get the counter xx Captain sword XX HSF
not exactly the right question here, but cyke IS better than captain commando, right? his AAA isn’t as powerful, but is it considered better than cammando’s?
