Why so salty? Get that dev tool out of your throat and drink some water. Just sprouting off the minimum requirements to make a decent fighting game isn’t going to impress anyone.
In case you haven’t heard, a good online multiplayer mode is practically required for a game to sell well. The publishers have already figured this out. Most publishers are forcing their devs to include online multiplayer, even in predominantly single player games such as Tomb Raider.
Smart devs should always design their game with OM in mind.
Capcom would be wise to cater to this. Their goal is to increase sale by DLCs and online aspects. With the new consoles coming out, OM is going to become more prominent than ever.
You can still game with your bros under my system. An occasional DC now and then won’t be a big deal. Heck, most people on here say online stats don’t even matter.
People with bad connections need to understand that because of their connection, they are detrimental to the online scene. If they still wanted to play, they still can.
What I don’t understand is why people are so upset that I am equating disconnects as a forfeit of the current match due to failure to continue. In case you haven’t noticed, real life sports work that way too.
Obviously no one should be forced to stay in matches that they don’t want to play. If a player want to quit and forfeit their match mid play, then so be it. They should be allowed to take the loss of the match and move on to the next one.
Making a post on forum that Capcom barely reads isn’t going to change anything either.
Have you tried to make the minimum requirements before you posted your blog post on SRK. That nobody is going to read and just make fun of you.
Over something the online infrastructure for the consoles don’t even have. So you think a developer has the resources to combat such a tool for the game as well?
You can continue to try and make this into a bigger problem and have this topic die a slow death cause it’s not a problem.
I’m just pointing out a problem that is easily fixable.
Personally, I don’t care about my online stats. Just because I personally don’t care doesn’t mean I can’t point out a flaw in the design of the current system.
That’s not the case as I understand it and as jedpossums posted above.
The platform itself, not just the games running on the platform, is evolving to handle this kind of thing better, but AFAIA it’s still a major headache. It’s not coincidental, FWIR, that there’s less ragequitting on the Xbox 360 version of some games (such as MvC2). (You could devolve that into the point that some of that logic has been defeated, but it was still at a better starting point between the two platforms AFAIA.)
I play Megaman. I have friends get angry at me in real life, let alone online. With Spiral you see what’s going on, with Megaman you just look at your lifebar and wonder when that happened.
Having done the “win 100 games” achievement for MvC2 for both XBLA and PSN, I probably played 120 games on XBLA and 230 games on PSN to get that. Actual game devs can speak to that more, but IIRC XBLA was easier to implement anti-RQ code upon.
I feel sorry for anyone who keeps playing randoms instead of getting a friends list together of people who are both really good and always on so you always have options
I have nothing to say about how I feel when people rage quit on me. Last time I played a fighting game online was CvS2 on the original Xbox. Rage quitting was a problem for that game. I am just amazed that even after 10 years the problem still isn’t fully resolved. Just search SRK for rage quitting to see what I mean.
10 years and still the same shit. Very sad indeed.
What is this “rage-quitting” problem that you speak of? I’ve only had relatively few disconnects compared to some of you guys. I clearly must either be doing something wrong or just plain suck because all I get are “Good Games” and “hey you’re not half-bad.” I’ve gotten maybe one or two “get better scrub” message, and they were the ones who lost to me! I feel left out…
