Why is not sf2ce the most important fighting game of the history in the list of evo?

pretty much always played the japanese versions so didn’t know about those changes
thanks,really interesting :open_mouth:

We always get the crappier shit. In case anyone haven’t yet, check the thread in my sig. You will notice most of us had no idea what the correct special move motions were. Many among us used incorrect - longer than needed - motions for several attacks, and a few even thought some were impossible. Well, it turns out that the Japanese World Warrior machine told you the motions already if you lost to the CPU. That’s right: they were told the correct motions by the fucking game itself, from the very beginning.

In Brazil, shit was even worse. Our game mags sucked: we would be told stupid shit like “CE is faster than WW”, “Guile was the best character in the original version, followed by Ken”, etc. In depth information about SF is something recent in the western would, while in Japan, it’s always been that way.

Now back on topic, I agree HF and ST are better than CE, but it must be seen that they are very different games. Just having HF play in CE speed would change it drastically. You can not really say that one game simply overrides the other - even though that’s what happened in the arcades, since the operators would remove all previous versions and leave players with no option but to play the new version, or stop playing.

There are a LOT of inputs that people did incorrectly, even until the 2000s.
I remember when Fei had his chicken kicks, someone told me it’s the Tiger Knee (Same with Cammy’s Hooligan), when in fact, it was HALF CIRCLE, and started from back, rather than down/back.
Also, Gief’s green hand wasn’t a DP in Super Turbo - it’s a reverse qcf.
Guile’s super is also not what most people think… It’s charge :d:, :f::b::u:+:k:, and can be done as charge :db: or :d:, :df:, :ub:+:k:

The best version of CE I played was a bootleg (I’m presuming) that ran at HF speed. I’ve never come across it again, even in amongst the dozens of bootleg emu’d ROMS.

CE fans remind me of MVC1 fans. Both games get very little love or respect because the game that immediately followed was incredibly superior.

You can add SSF2 and SFA1 to this list.

There are 3 ways of doing this.

1.Find the board
You haven’t found the board. So this option is unlikely.

  1. Put CE characters in HF
A lot of dirty work but could be done. (might have to write some assembly)

  2. Add turbo to CE
Most likely would require you to make a disassembly of CE. Which I’m not going into in detail about.

HF-speed CE just makes Dictator even more BS. That’s a bad idea, IMHO.

He was talking about a hack he was reminiscing about. Not a fucking re-balancing to the game. Stop being like David Sirlin.

Easiest option (though not necessarily most accurate) is SCE on Genesis, which had speed settings for CE.

We played the “Japanese” version here in Canada. I don’t think the early version was too prominent.

basically at that time after the New Challengers, all versions were considered as SF2, with only the devoted players noticing the differences.
same thing really with SF4

I miss ken’s egg beater.
god how I miss it.

As a guy from South America, i can truly say that the main reason why everybody plays CE here is because, when you ask their fans about why, they say “it was the game that was available in my local Game Center in the 90’s”. CPS1 was too damn easy to pirate and CPS2 was much less available, few people jumped to ST because it was in 1 of 100 game centers in my country… and the pro players didn’t like the lack of CPS1-chains.

EDIT: Also the lack of console port in the mid-90 was fundamental for a lot of people. And no, 3DO was almost non-existent here.

For newer members or those not in the know, OP is most likely the Korean who maintained this account. Really good thread back in mid-2000’s SRK. There used to be a www.sf2ce.co.kr and quick downloads during the pre-Youtube days, but it’s gone now.

I believe that Balrog was also better in the Japanese version? Everyone talks about how he’s top tier but everytime I used him, he felt like shit.

I remember a guy from China or Korea posting in the CE thread that the reason they prefer CE is that HF was seen as a version that catered towards weaker players, with higher speed to give the illusion that more skill is needed. They prefer CE because it has truly strong characters and you really need to be 100% on point in order to compete. I don’t know how many CE players share this view, but in terms of availability through piracy, HF was also CPS1 and had CPS1 chains, and was also available on console, so maybe this at least some truth to what he said. I know the OP posted many times that in Korea they view CE to be the purest version of the game (Laugh actually made a counter-post implying that they don’t know better because they refuse to play ST). Personally I prefer HF, but in my experience CE is damn fun as well if you playing against someone who can play the game at high level.

OP once posted vids from the arcade where a player called Fantastic Ryu was beasting with US version Boxer. This was in response to a number of posters including myself saying that US Boxer was complete ass in CE. IMO Boxer is still bad, but Fantastic Ryu makes him look like a good character.

Near the end of the second vid you can see Boxer’s throw loop existed in CE as well.

Great videos, man. But I will say: these guys just don’t have the level to play the game against this kind of player. He is too ahead. You put a competent player, specially as Ryu, and Boxer just lacks the tools to deal with him. He could have easily punched those full-screen rushes and have a projectile coming at Boxer after it. Boxer can kill a character after a couple of strong hits, but the same is true to most the cast.

Not impressed. Half those players had shit reactions. The boxer is pretty damn solid, but let’s see him go up against a truly talented Guile, Sagat, or Ryu.
