Outside of the actual subjective quality of the sounds, my point was more that the really big hit flash and extremely distinctive sounds are great at enhancing the gameplay. I’m a fan of the sounds themselves, but everyone has a bit different taste. I think the light attacks sound a little ‘wooden’ when blocked but that’s really my only complaint, I like pretty much everything else.
One small detail that I haven’t seen picked up on that I really like is one that helps it go back to its roots in looks…
They made it so that the character models overlap instead of clipping through, giving it more of a sprite-based look. For example, if you do a mirror match in IV and park the characters side-by-side, you’ll see the models clipping through each other, as you might expect in a 3d-based game.
In V, however, one will always appear to overlap the other. A minor detail, but one older fans will appreciate.
This is actually really interesting and probably also explains why the collision boxes are being done as they are, because they’re entirely divorced from the meshes since the meshes are not on the same plane really.
I like the way the refined ti from the look of street fighter 4. In street fighter 4 everything was so bulky and big. This is the same style, but much more refined, and proportions are much closer to real life.
