Why I Love Street Fighter

That was awesome post, this is one of the best I have ever read…

I agree Street Fighter is still one of the best out there, and in my mind the start of the fighting game boom on the arcades.

:wgrin:   :karate: :cybot:

I wouldn’t even learn how to edit videos if it wasn’t for street fighter. Damn Ive been playing SF since I was 5. Now im 20. 15 years! DAMN!

Too bad it almost messed up my social life(Girls really)

Somebody should get off their ass and write a novel. That post was superb, a look into the soul of a hardcore fighting gamer. Nowadays people who play 2-d fighters are rare, which is kinda sad because there’s hardly any cometition where I live, but I like not being another person in the Halo oriented crowd.

no, they weren’t actually.

anyway

i read your post, and i just wanted to say (in a non-asshole way) that your idea of a centralised community almost definitely will not succeed unless you have something very, very, very special and/or new to make people post there rather than the respective sites (zaibatsu, srk etc).

i respect what you are trying to do though

Here here!!!

I totally feel ya Thongboy. I mean, spending 4 months to get Psylocke, Thanos, & Bison’s assists into one combo, just for the heck of it…requires LOOVE.

Doctor Who… next time we drink, i’m disconnecting the computer, SF luv staying alive across borders, back in the day my uncle in Mexico City (i live in mid-west US) had this pharmacy (still has it, but different location… in Mexico City) and he had a Street Fighter II (possibly turbo) arcade machine in it

i’m pretty sure 100% of the youth that came there went for SFII… and for the ice cream, pharmacys RaWk!!

for the record, i don’t remember what side of the buttons the stick was on

I love street fighter because it stays crunchy in milk

People always told me to give up on learning the ROM infinite, but I kept practicing and one night I finally got it down perfectly. Then the fighting scene died in my community… game over.

Good read though!

This is greatness!

I have a lot of footage from past tournaments I can send u that have many great players on them. Let me know!

Wow. Great read! Since I started participating in tourneys back in late '02 I have learned so much from the tourney scene/people in the ‘local’ srk community. Local meaning in state and not around the block. That first post truly deserves a spot in a blog somewhere so others can read. I’ll say it here… come spring time, competition will rise as more people will start to prepare for this year’s EVO. On top of that, the releas of the other next gen consoles will also bring more gamers together as that time comes closer and closer.

Yeah, I guess I know what you mean, but they should only do it once a year or somthin and only if somthin is really broken. I mean you could have spent 5 months learning all the most damaging Genei-Jin combos against each character just to find out that it was all taken out by “3sPatch2.1” . And if they do enought revising, they keep revising, every character will be the same think. 3s just wouldn’t be the same with-out chun’s lowforward to SA2 (even though I hate it and have been on the receiving end many times). But some games do need some kind of patch, just to take out some infinites or god tier stuff.

The social aspect of Street Fighter is unparalleled. I’m very fortunate to live near a Namco arcade in Nottingham which has managed to sustain a competitive gaming community, I may not be able to beat most of the guys there but then I’ll match the rush of landing a meaty blow on a superior opponent to any other high. Street Fighter rules.

I can only think of three games - Street Fighter 2, Tetris and Puyo Puyo - which have had only minor improvements to their original formula, all attempts to make fundamental changes to these titles or rival properties have failed to create games which I enjoy more than these originals. Street Fighter rules.

Right this moment, I’m listening to Vega’s theme (SNES SF2T) through my hi-fi. Street Fighter rules.

I too have been playing street fighter since way back in the day, even though I’ve only been trying to play competitively for a few years now. And it’s always win or lose fun. And like thongboy said, it just brings people together.

Not to change the subject, but am I the only one who caught that? My brain is broken…

I’ll match the rush of landing a meaty blow on a superior opponent to any other high.

You didnt quote the whole line, thats why.

Ok, we all really like SF and we’re all way too good at it to just throw that talent away. I agree, it would just be a waste. We’re talking about a cultivated set of skills and that’s supposed to be worth something. I mean, you always hear about how fancy cars and expensive junk is unfulfilling in the long-run. I can accept that. But that’s not supposed to apply to the stuff you excel at, right? Otherwise nobody would bother getting good at anything.

So, where do we go from here?

Just be satisfied with what we have going here until it fades out? Or go learn to play Halo2? Or just write all of this off as a temporary hobby and give it up? Or try to expand the community somehow so that five years down the line people still know the reason you shouldn’t jump in ST?

You know, I made a post similar to this a year ago, and didn’t get much of a response at all. I should have known all I had to do was use first-person in my text to get people to relate to me.
