Why Gouken?

I just like the rush palm animation a lot. Really, I come from Rose, and I wanted someone who punches people hard, rather than poking them - it’s a feel thing.

Also, he ain’t no damn shoto. He taught all the best moves to Ryu, then forgot all about them.

He just too old to do those crap, need something to conserve energy for big damage

I main Gouken cause he really dosent have anything to rely on like the regular shotos and it all about witts, fancy footwork and intuition to get the victory. And it just feel so Complete after you win with the old man. I like how he is drawn and he has a strong stance. The fact that’s nothing guaranteed with him make you want to get creative and take some risks and that the beauty of it. Such a very uniqe charater indeed.

I chose Gouken because I wanted to use a virtually unknown character then lord behold there gouken was in all his shining glory. And of course backgrab to ultra didn’t hurt the process :smiley:

I love half assing the first round against peeps, then they get that ego swell during 2nd round and that “momentum” they thought they had is their downfal for the next 2rds…lol…
So misunderstood …

Gouken is my main mostly because of two reasons:

  • I like to play zone characters and always have. Gouken can beat you up REAL bad up close, but can zone like the best of them.
  • He doesn’t have many useful tight links that are really required to play him at a high level.

The second may not be the case for everyone, but it certain is for me – I simply can’t land really tight links enough to be very useful. With arcade edition coming and potentially LP palms comboable from a poke, I’ll have to really practice, but Gouken isn’t a heavily linky character for high powered use. My other main is Bison and he only has a few really tight links, but I don’t need them to win.

Really? My alt is Bison too, I thought his short short short mk scissor is critical to it’s success.

I do agree that the only link Gouken have, s.mp -> c.mk is pretty much next to useless. And the sf.hp -> c.hk on counter hit is even sillier. I wouldn’t mind if it have one link that is actually usable, but I do agree that having no tight link make him feel like a character class in it’s own.

Bison can REALLY use 2/3x c.lk into lk SK. I typically use 2x c.LP into SK for pressure, but you can definitely get by with a single c.lk into SK when you’re close to keep pressure up. Bison needs his normals, well timed jumps and throws to win.

I can’t put my finger on why, but it’s the most awesome way of anti-airing in the game. Besides the fact getting a free palm in the process is rape.

Oh yeah and counter shenanigans too. I find it quite funny when my opponent jumps a fireball and gets their jump in countered. =)

I chose gouken because he is very unique in design.
IMO, hes has the best punishes.
He is not popular, everyone thinks he sucks.
Finally, mixing people up to the point were they don’t know what the hell to do is so much fun.

I like him the best, I tried using other characters and got bored of them but I like Gouken

He doesn’t have an instant get out of a jail free- card, and the specials are rather risky, making him tough to play on that department, not so much on execution though. That, and if you get in a bad spot against him, you can kiss the better half of your life bar goodbye, while Gouken makes beating you up look amazingly good. Also you dont see him that much, so he has the “flying under the radar” bonus on the matches. Not everyone know his tricks.

Oh, and countering ultras. Nothing beats that.

i love gouken because of his intro animation where he palms the ground and the dust flies away. also far s.HP looks very powerful

lol, when I saw that I was sold, just a simple back throw, with no scaling into one of the most powerful ultras in the game:woot:

One of the real reason was that Gouken works best for those players that can read their opponents and predict their every move. Not to mention Kongo is really cool.

throw into ultra was a huge drawback for me when I picked him up, ok you dont feel so bad about it when you don’t see the other player because your teaching them to tech, and you will get half your life taken from you if you dont tech this throw. but when your sitting next to friends and you see them crouch teching then you grab them and for somereason it works, then you begin to feel really bad haha, i have to slide in the one hit jumping medium punch before the ultra just to make myself feel less cheap personally

but main reasons for me picking him up are

the juggling… hitting 4 hakoukens to shin in the corner gave me the fuckin horn haha, fell in love from there, and the possiblities just never ended,

kongo fadc ultra

opponent jumping into high hadouken > dash palm

his mixup and reset game is just fantastic and fun, not to mention

the beasty jumping hp > hp > hadouken > fadc > c.hp > ex palm.

just one more thing i need to get down to feel i have fully explored him and have him moving as an invincible puppet controlled by my stick, is hp > hadouken > crouch hp > palm dash, im not sure of the amount of frames between both the hadouken and the crouch hp, and the c.hp and palm, but its hard

anyone got it down? or got any advice actually for the c.hp > palm section, is the bit im struggling most with
