I don’t play any fighting game but I’m curious as to why tournaments force players to put arcade sticks on their laps instead of providing a small table or something? Playing on lap looks ridiculous.
Easier, cheaper than different size or adjustable tables, just as comfortable as lots of sticks have padding on the bottom just for that reason, nothing ridiculous about it.
If a large tourney (like EVO) provided tables for all their players, that’s be a CRAPLOAD of tables. No one has the budget for that.
You’re free to bring and set up your own table. When I was at EVO 2013, I saw Poongko carrying a table around.
It’s not ridiculous to play with your arcade stick on your lap. No matter where you go, you will ALWAYS be able to play with the arcade stick in your lap. You might NOT always find a table that’s the appropriate height for stick-use at all locations where you play. It becomes a matter of finding the one common ground, and getting used to that, so that you’re always at the top of your game in terms of setup no matter where you go.
Neither are the chairs adjustable. Considering that have a hall, I don’t think a coffin table would take much space. Oh well, it’s just an opinion of an outsider, arcade stick on lap look unstable and unprofessional.
Wow, you have a logic of a mudcrap, why would everyone need their own table? Does tournaments provide every player with their own chairs too?
All tournaments have to do is provide a small table for every console, you know infront of the chairs where players sit, the table can be used by every player if they choose to. You don’t seriously expect players to carry their own chairs and tables around.
Your argument isn’t exactly the most sound either. No need to be an ass about it.
Can you imagine how much more space it would take?
And you ignored my 3rd point completely.
Not everyone plays at home with a table; ie, a table isn’t always available. So the majority of players have adapted to using their laps, which is ALWAYS available.
Yes, it’s not as pretty. The table is definitely a prettier option (I would hardly consider it “professional-looking”, though). So people just go with what works.
If a chair is too tall or too short for you what do you do, you move your head up or down a few degrees to look at the monitor. If the table is too tall or too short it’s going to be awkward on your arms/wrists and possibly mess up your gameplay, your lap is the same distance whether the chair is high or low.
You’re supposed to watch the screen not the players.
No I can not imagine how much more space it would take, I’m talking about a small table that’s half size of a coffee table, I’m not talking a giant dinner table…
eg, like the Ikea side table that is 55cm by 55cm in size.
Given that these tournament are taken in large venues, so the space argument is invalid.
Especially when you have a legs fit under the table, virtually no extra space will be taken.
Unless you can come up with logical and mathematically valid argument as to two small 55cm x55cm tables would cause space issue in a tournament hall, then all these space arguments can stop right now.
As for the cost of the tables, they are $10 brand new, so again what is the issue?
It’s a tournament, not a friendly at your mates house. I thought these tournament are suppose to be the best of the best players, and players shouldn’t have to accept “go with what works”. The tournament suppose to bring out the best out of these people.
If any professional sports tournament does not provide any facility that might affect the performance, you can be guaranteed that players will start complaining or even refuse to participate at all.
God these fighting game E-sport tournaments are so cheap and unprofessional. It’s like these tournament organisers just grabbed two chairs from their mama’s basement.
This thread is just…dumb and pointless. And I would know because I made my fair share of dumb threads when I was new. Like what do you want? Mahogony wooden tables with leather reclining chairs? It’s a videogame tournament. It’s not that serious. The players are comfortable playing with their fight sticks in their lap and most prefer it so what’s the problem? Like someone mentioned earlier you’ve only been here for like 2 weeks, you admit to not playing fighting games, and you go and make a thread about irrelevant shit that could’ve been asked in fighting game lounge. Please get an understanding of the culture of the FGC before posting such things again.
That’s because there was no table, and he does like to play on his lap because of the instability, so he plays on the floor where there is a hard surface. Isn’t that obvious? Thank you for supporting my argument.
