Why do Scrubs like Shotos so much?

Really? Because I’m pretty sure breaking your disc over losing to the CPU guarantees you are a scrub.

Ok… this kid finally got a laugh out of me.

So why is this topic still here anyway?

bad economy.

Maybe cuz the guy got ownd by a scrub who used Ryu.

I am pretty new to the game and play Ryu, but being a scrub would mean I thought I was awesome, which I know I am not. You are misusing the term. I use shoryuken a lot. Why? Because I am not good enough yet to consistently pull off advanced combos in actual games. Sure, I can do 1-5 normal and 1-2 hard trials with no issues, but actually pulling that stuff off in a fight is different. If you do something that leaves you vulnerable, I will either shoryuken immediately or HP->Shoryuken you. This is actually almost a knee-jerk reaction. If timed right, I could do a really nice combo instead, but I just don’t feel comfortable with my ability to pull it off and still need to put conscious thought into every combo before doing it, which takes time. Shoryuken does not. Yes, the sooner I get accustomed to not leaning on the shoryuken-crutch the better, but i’ve decided to hold off the execution practice until I get an arcade stick since that will essentially reset my game in many ways anyway.

I picked Ryu because people said it was a good character to learn the game with. After playing for about two weeks and learning the basics i’m considering switching to Balrog or Chun-Li around the time I acquire an arcade stick, neither of which have a missile or shoryuken(well, chun has a charge missile, but it doesn’t seem to play the same role as hadoken). Messing around with them I can already tell that adapting to life without shoryuken will take a little time, but I think it will make me a better player overall when it’s all said and done. Do I regret starting off with a shoryuken character to learn the game with? Hell no. I learned a lot, including the fact that shoryuken is far from an i-win button and is extremely punishable if used in the wrong situation. To a good player, one wrong shoryuken can cost you nearly half your bar.

OP, if you encounter bad players playing shoto characters, then maybe it is because you are not that great yourself? If you were, you wouldn’t be the same grade as these “scrubs”. Am I wrong? Are people in this thread having difficulties with new players using shoryuken? The experienced guys I faced didn’t seem to. Or perhaps the issue is that you feel that, playing a more difficult character, it is unreasonable that someone who is perhaps less skilled than you can put up a fight because a shoto is easy to handle? In that case, maybe you should pick up a shoto yourself to learn the basics with like I did since you clearly aren’t advanced enough to handle the other characters yet
