I understand that the two versions are slighty different (3 has new characters) but it seems like 2 has a stonger following? Why dont people still play Alpha 1? Sorry if this is such a dumb question, but what is the difference between the 2?
They’re good games? With aspects that cannot be found in any current popular fighting game, and some of the finest online play via GGPO?
I believe SFA was overlooked and not well received because it felt like a slower paced game compared to the recently released Super Turbo or Children of the Atom.
Some people seem to not like this for some reason…
Because:pray: Alpha 2 is the greatest SF game ever made(I’m extremely biased, btw).
Many would argue either Alpha2 or A2 Gold are among the most balanced of SF games, and the last SF game before the VS. influence was starting to bleed over into SF(just a little).
I would suspect Alpha 1 doesn’t get much play because of it’s half assed nature and chain combos and small roster.
A3 wasn’t my favorite, but popular because it added the multiple systems, giving SF a slight taste of Mahvels’ juggleness with V-isms, plus it’s console ports were a bit better off than A2 received if you didn’t have a Saturn. The console versions of A3 had 33 characters, so it was the SF with the largest roster, and sold very well on PS1. Last biggest SF game before SF3 started. Largely it comes down to personal preference, I just like A2 footsies.
1st of all wow that combo video is CRAZY.
I see your point SF-Zero2, when I was kid I dont know why but I always like SFA2 better then 3? I hated the music in 3,but when it came down to the technical side I have no idea between the two games.
Yeah, the technical differences between the two are pretty elaborate, you should browse the Alpha Anthology forum and look for posts by dialupsucky, guy is a walking Alpha series index.:china:. Maybe he’ll pop in here, he used to be psychic about Alpha conversations happening…
Don’t mean to jack your thread, but I’m still a hit hazy on the SF game timeline:
alpha is the series between 2 and 3, right?
Nope, alpha is set between 1 and 2. 4 is actually set between 2 and 3 also.
Sorry, I wasn’t very clear:
I meant in terms of game release timeline, not story timeline. I think I got the answer of google though. Thanks!
Zero 2 is still my favorite SF game!
Because Marvel 3 sucked so bad it made people crave actual fighting games again.
Alpha 2 is better, Alpha 3 is funner and has more characters, get the PS1 version get SF2 guys, then with 'Upper get Yun, eagle, Maki.
I palyed Alpha 3 in the arcade because the pace, the combos, and I liked the alpha system. Sure it gave way to -isms, but I liked it.
Alpha 3>>>>>>>>>third strike
