Why do people hate keep away teams?

So you would rather last only 20 Mahvel seconds than playing for 99 Mahvel Seconds with a damn good chance to comeback?

I mean its whatever. I suppose if one hated playing keepaway that much then they would take fighting Wolverine…

Hate to say it, but X-factor level 3 + good anchor = a damn good chance to come back. Guess I just like fast paced matches. If I wanted to play something with a slow pace, there’s always Street Fighter 4.

I can attest to this, even though the team I use (Hsien-Ko, Felicia, Morrigan) has very little to offer in terms of effective keep-away, despite the fact that Hsien-Ko appears to be designed for it… Hsien-Ko has her gongs and items, Morrigan has a decent jump-back fireball game, and Felicia’s Sand Splash can be surprisingly good when used correctly…

In any case, I’ve received my fair share of hatemails with the limited tools at my disposal. It’s really a matter of the opponent not being able to - or simply refusing to - think on their feet. They’ve gotten so used to their single-minded approach that anything that requires deviation from their strategy causes them to either fly into a button-mashing rage or just sit there and spam taunts on the other end of the screen.

The usual suspects: Wolverine, Wesker, X-23, Zero and Hulk players. Which is sad because all of those characters have all the tools and then some when it comes to closing in and destroying anyone. With the exception of Hulk; I actually feel kinda bad zoning him out sometimes, but the only other alternative is face him toe to toe and get SMASH!ed, and I’d rather win personally.

Apparently a lot of players would just rather you run into their bootheel than pose a challenge to them.

Seriously, people who think keep away is scrubby/easier in this game have no idea about the major weaknesses of keepaway.

  1. Your oppotent builds meter nearly as you much when you block.

  2. Push Block cuts a massive amount of chip granted if you push block+crouch.

Your oppotent build fucking meter doing this…

  1. Every Rushdown character have tools to beat keepaway…
Wolverine’s beserker slash, Zero has projectile and a command dash+that stupid jumping C, Dante got everything, Viper has sesimo, etc, etc. Most keepaway characters aren’t as good as those character.

  2. Crossover Counter, you realize there is abusable invincible frames on that shit?

  3. X-factor. And your oppotent STILL builds meter in X-factor

Zone/chip teams are fun, less popular. I cant type mvc3 in youtube and see TONS OF videos on keep away/tactics like you can other characters. cough cough wolverine, wesker, dante

Its annoying, I play a zone team and play against zoners and get pissed… oh well. If you pick some hilarious easy characters like wolverine, wesker, dante DONT BE SURPRISED when someone does everything in their power to piss you off. Chances are they are at a disadvantage anyway against your team.

I think characters are starting to get a bad wrap because of the idiots who use them. I mean sure, Dante, Wesker, and Wolverine attract scrubs, but how scrubs use them isn’t how they should be defined as characters. That goes for every character. I just find it stupid when people are walking into matches with the idea “He’s using _____________ , what a scrub”. The person’s abilities should be defined by how they use the character’s abilities, not the other way around.

f0xhounds right about this shit. keep away was played in mvc2 all the time. i hate the doom/sentinel/ setup… but some savage as cosmic lords use that, and it don’t matter cause a wins a win… including dark phoenix… whoever the fuck. fuck the hate messages. i pick dante/sentinel/haggar and fuck shit up. wolverine is overpowered too. anything goes!

I just started playing with Arthur, Ammy, Sent very fun. Also use Arthur, Akuma and either Ammy/ironman/sent as 3rd. It took me a while to realize that I play a zoning style and stopped using rushdown characters online.

regardless, how long did it take to learn Wolverine and Wesker’s BnB?

that’s besides the fact that people generally agree that rank doesn’t mean much
