Inverse, this is probably the best advice for you right now in the whole thread. (Shoo really knows his stuff and he pretty well custom-tailored a clear, concise response specifically for your situation and level.)
The more you play, the less of your total mental capacity will be engaged by those activities, and you’ll naturally find yourself delegating newly freed brain power to other and more proactive things.
If you are bad then you need to just get your ass handed to you by people that are WAY better than you and if you cant adjust then hang it up cause you never will fucker…plain and simple.
its video games for christ sake, shit isnt rocket punch science
valid points but youre directing it at the wrong person, mr bourdreau (mrdhalsim) is a OG and has been playing sf for longer han tlike, 95% of the people posting, lol. just found it funny that you would call him out like that lol.
lots of good advice in this thread overall for newbies, keep it up srk
It seems like you value Execution over mere theory. I’m also not a big fan of the “theory fighter” you mention, but on forums, what can you expect? All we have are words-- this isn’t GGPO or the arcade, it’s a forum, full of text. The only way you can possibly do anything with all of this text is to consider it, and mull it over a bit. Maybe a post makes sense, maybe not- to figure out which, you have to think and consider it first. So if you are not a big “theory fighter” fan, or just don’t like to read long essays, then why don’t you go check out Execution Aid instead?
btw It seems there’s a somewhat perverse incentive on these forums- do you have to post a minimum number of times before you can PM or do other things? I guess that would be to prevent some types of abuse but it also practically encourages more theory fighter (and of less quality than there’d otherwise be).
btw, I don’t try to react when I play opponents because, as I mentioned, I don’t want to play their game.
I hear you Inverse. I’ve been playing SF since WW came out in the arcades, used to practice a lot, played a lot of people in my home town (a small town, but still) and killed everyone. I’d be playing for a couple hours against people on one credit. But I got away from it for years.
And when I recently picked SF games back up again this past year and started chatting with people on here it was eye opening. I went to an arcade here in Nashville that one of our members (DreamTR) works at/owns and he fuckin’ SCHOOLED me. I thought I was pretty decent at 3s, but Jason just absolutely destroyed me. I won a couple rounds here and there, but I certainly am not as good as I thought I was.
Thing is, I don’t care about being a tourney level player. I have a Mac so I can’t play on GGPO or Kaliera (wish I could, and who knows, I might try to dual boot it so I can) and being a musician, I’m broke a lot, so going to the arcade to play isn’t always an option.
But if you’ve got the option to play online, then do it. Like people have said, you’re thinking too much and not playing enough against other people.
Think about it like boot camp. When you first got there, you probably got your ass kicked. But after, you were made of steel. You manned up and learned. Street Fighter is sorta like boot camp in that you go thru of period of growth, of learning, of change, of ADAPTATION, and then you come out the other side as someone else almost. Keep practicing. It’s good for you.
And when you take a break, go to GD once in awhile. It’s worthless, but it’s fun.
