Why do fighting game characters yell out the name of their attacks?

I cant help but notice in almost every fighting game tge fighters always yell out their attack names, I’m not unhappy about it I just wanna know why they do that

It is an anime cliche, and since alot a fighting games, namely SF, are anime based, what would you expect?

Just for flash I say. lol

THERE IS NO ANSWER!

BUT IW OULD YELL OUT THINGS LIKE, TERRIYAKI ATTACK, MUSTARD PLANTER, ELEPHANT DUNG TOSS (and MY PERSONAL FAVORITE), MASHEDPOTATOANDGRAVYDUKEN!!

They don’t really do it that much anymore. A lot of times they just grunt or something. But I say shouting out the name of the attack just breaks the monotony of hearing “UGH!”

Cable for example, thanks to shouting out the attack name, has a much more diverse vocabulary. Granted, it’s only 3 words…

Because yelling out stuff at ur oppenent ads to the game and gets more into the game.

In some martials arts (karate being the most common), youre supposed to yell to project your ki. I think the overall idea of changing it into speech pattern came from that.

that’s right about the ki thing also I’ve been told addition to that it’s because some attacks look the same and there is need to tell them apart, dunno why but that’s how it is

I played CvS1 a few years back at an arcade, and I noticed that some of the characters weren’t saying their move names. For example, Ryu and Ken would just grunt when doing fireballs and DPs. However, Cammy would yell out “Cannon Arrow!”, Dhalsim would say “Yoga Flame!” and all that good stuff.

Apparently, there’s some setting on the arcade version where you can turn off the “foreign jibberish”. I thought that was the funniest (and the saddest) shit. Maybe it’s because I’m used to hearing “Shoryuken!” but when something as basic as that gets taken away, it just doesn’t feel right.

lol yea if i were them i’d mix up the words, ilke say hadoken and do the uppercut and say crouching short and do a overhead or something.

:lame:

edit: DISCLAIMER: i’m saying that about my post not the topic :stuck_out_tongue:

I think yelling confuses the opponent.

How else would you know how a new move is pronounced (anyone know Ryu’s #4, :hcf: + :k: ?); or in some cases, even called? It drowns out the monotonous moans and groans that would get edited into “Street Fighter (Porno Mix)” albums, and let’s face it. SF2 did it first, and everyone hops on the train (besides Tekken).

Rocket Punch!

Most SNK characters don’t even shout move names, but rather some curse or taunt in Japanese like “Doushita?”, “Kizuka!”, or my all time favorite, “Koko Desuka?”

Why Japanese characters try to demoralize their opponents in fighting games and not the Marvel characters is beyond me. If I were Stan Lee, I’d probably want to sue Capcom just from seeing Marvel characters screaming made-up names for their attacks (with the excpetion of Storm, though).

Just imagen how boring the game would be if they didn’t yell out their attacks?
Hell the only reason i play Chaos is to hear Geese!
FOOAA!! FOOAA!! Repuken! RISING STROAAAAAAAMMMMMMM!!!

Love, La Bamba

OPTIC BLAST

i can only imagine what the Xmen cartoons/movies would have looked like if cyke actually yelled that every time he used his powers.

It’s done for dramatic effect. Also it adds more damage to the move, hehe

Ryu’s :hcf: + :k: is Joudan Sokutou Geri.

hugs his SF Anniversary guide

I remember reading in the SF2 manual(years ago) that Ryu and Ken summon the power of the wind for their Tatsumaki and stuff. Maybe that’s where it comes from.

how on earth are they gonna reply to lil’ kids that keep bugging them with this question …

" how did you do that !?! " " how did you do that !?! “
” how did you do that !?! " " how did you do that !?! “
” how did you do that !?! " " how did you do that !?! “
” how did you do that !?! " " how did you do that !?! "

I dunno maybe the shouting of your move increases your strength.

I heard an article about how shouts actually increase your physical power during that time.
