Why do fans and Capcom shy away from Street Fighter 3 2nd Impact and New Generation

I like Third Strike as much as the next person but 2nd Impact and New Generation are good games in their own right. Why is it that only 3rd Strike gets to used in EVO and not the previous two games?

Because something just feels wrong when Sean is high tier.

This. I’ll 2nd Impact Sean over that weakling in 3rd Strike anyday.

Infinite Loops, Unblockable Strings and combos ahoy!

Poor balance, the ability to high parry everything, a few missing characters that came out in newer iterations, infinities and unblockables (more than even 3s), 3s feels a bit more polished and less nitty gritty, Ibuki, Sean, and Akuma were broken, etc etc etc…

Same reason why you don’t see MVC1 at Evo. It’s a fun game, but full of retarded infinites, extremely powerful grapplers, pixies, the broken ability to have both characters on screen with infinite super, etc etc etc. MVC2 just took the old formula and made it better, so why go back to MVC1 other than for memories?

Shit, only reason I play 2i is to hear Dudley say “Uppercut”

the only people who think NG and 2i are worth playing over 3s are people who play those games by themself against the computer. please try to run a tournament for you and the 10 other people in the country who would be interested and let us know if its worth the effort

Lies and slander. Everyone knows this is the real reason people don’t play NG and 2I:

I’d like to see what high level NG looks like, just out of curiosity

I love 2I. The stages, themes, Dudley’s “Uppahcut.”, it was all better than 3S. There are some system changes I prefer in 3s, granted, such as two button throws and more balanced, but 2I was just a lot of fun for me. Plus, double denjin ryu!

There’s a difference between games that are fun for casuals and games that are good at the competitive level. Seeing as how Evo is a tournament, you’re generally going to get tournament-worthy games there, unless the casuals bother to setup their own consoles for the fun of it.

New Generation and 2nd Impact were one of the first few fighting games I had for my Dreamcast about a year back (as SFIII Double Impact), Honestly, I spent a lot more time with 2nd Impact. New Generation sucked. It was ass back in 1997 and it’s still ass now.

2nd Impact was pretty decent though. I heard the top tiers in NG and 2nd Impact were overpowered as fuck; made 3rd Strike Chun-Li look completely fair.

Street Fighter III bombed as a series and the first two games were made completely obsolete by 3rd Strike anyway.
They simply aren’t different enough from 3S to bother with
It’s not like SFA2 and SFA3, where the games are so different that each has it’s niche.
That said, I do like the aesthetics of Second Impact, and I wish Sean hadn’t been nerfed so hard for 3S.

NG and 2I are busted.

General rule of thumb for future iteration of Capcom games:
[]If they were too powerful in the first game, they’re going to get neutered, spayed, and raped in the next version
[
]all new characters are typically very powerful, since they had less time to balance and adjust them
[]the hit, block, and overall battle sounds of the original games will be better than future games.
[
]Sagat will always be high/top tier.
fuck 2I Sean. He’s like Chun with an uppercut

Both are semi brokefest, but IMO, second impact is waaaaaaaaaaaaaayy funner than 3s, where everything was nerfed to hell.

Also: Street Fighter 3 NG & 2I Thread <<<<<<<<<< This thread has a lot of info for both games.

The SSF4 characters didn’t get that treatment :frowning:

Twins?

C.Viper, Seth, Rufus, Yun? They’ve all graced the A-ranks of SF4 in at least one iteration. Could you imagine if we had the technology of C.Viper and Seth back in the Vanilla days? They’d be S-rank.
