Why do DEVS insist that "balancing" a game takes away from the personality of a fighter?

You know, if you guys can get me solid, irrefutable proof of this, I can ban him immediately for being an alt of someone banned.

Can’t you check their IP and compare?

It’s been too long and the at this point the IPs have most likely changed.

He posted some pictures using his original photobucket (hecatomb something) on the anime thread
But being honest, outside him behaving like an idiot i don’t think that it warrants being banned. He has not been breaking rules outside the alt account and i know that many mods are lenient with that as long as the poster behaves

fucking scumbag retards

The video i posted earlier got flagged, sorry i didn’t know their was a hate train for the channel of that video. Lmao
How about you ask Capcom about that?

If the game itself is not interesting on its own that you need this silly drama to spice it up, I’d say we have a bigger problem.

I dunno about you guys, but some balance choices make no sense to me. Like UMVC3. Why would you make Zero THAT good and Phoenix wright THAT bad?

Because capcom, that is why.

Because People were too afraid on PW actually serving a purpose.

PW was looking to be the top assist in the game. potentially could have been an answer to soul fist.

And jesus christ just look at his H attack in turnabout.

Hsien-Ko cries.

Because they didn’t give Arthur a dash because “he didn’t have one in his own game”.

To be fair, any company can make games with funny balance.

True, but they are the only ones that seem to do it on purpose

Yeah fun and interesting high/top tiers… they’re never fun clearly because they’re too good and have too much tools. I’ll never understand low tier heroes lol. *not the ones that legitimately enjoy low tier characters, but ones that’ll completely avoid anything other than low tier.

Tier whores are easy to understand, they value winning over anything else and want to increase their odds in tournaments or in any competitive play.

Low tier heroes, who only play low tier. While a seeeming conundrum at first there are indeed sound reasons as to their existence.

  1. They are masochists
  2. They loathe mirror matches more than most.
  3. They want to show the world that this or that low tier character has his/her own strengths and is a viable choice for tournament play.
  4. They like the challenge of having inferior tools to most of the other characters.
  5. They hate losing, but unlike tier whores who increase their odds so they experience losses less, low tier heroes use bad characters so they can blame their loss on the character.
  6. No one can call them a tier whore, and they get massive respect should they pull off winning a tourney with a low tier.

Maybe I should rephrase that and say that I don’t understand low tier scrubs that are mostly the #5 example lol. Just so ass backwards to me

Kokonoe…

A game is always more fun when it is more balanced. The more balanced it is, the more fun it is. This is because balance encourages variety, and variety is a component of fun. Balancing a game effectively increases the roster. Raising two shit-tier characters to competitive status is almost like adding two brand new characters to the game. Adding two shit-tier characters to a game has almost no impact at all (ask buyers of Shuma and Jill how much mileage they are getting from that purchase).

However, balance is just one of many aspects that make a game more fun. A game can be boring even when it is balanced, and an unbalanced game can still be fun. Balancing a game costs time and money, and game devs will try to convince you that unbalanced games are fun games, because then they wouldn’t need to spend time and money in that area.

PS:
There is a common notion that making characters unbalanced generates hype “David vs Goliath” moments, but this is a fallacy. You can have “David vs Goliath” moments even in balanced games, because even when characters are balanced players are not. You don’t need to force them.

Most post SF4 era members of the FGC are stuck in the scrubby mentality whining about balance too much, it’s a bonus that’s nice to have but not needed for a fighting game to be fun, deep, or competitively viable. Too bad patch technology has spoiled the scrubs of the FGC so now all people talk about is for charcter x to be buffed/nerfed.

Most of the best fighters are very unbalanced. Balance is overrated, if people spent half the time they spend bitching on forums on practicing instead, they would be good enough to not need a boost from developers.
