Why do DEVS insist that "balancing" a game takes away from the personality of a fighter?

Just a friendly reminder: improving balance does not necessarily mean nerfing top tiers. Buffing low tiers is arguably a better way to go about it. How much more awesome would MVC2 be if the four gods retained their options, and the rest of the characters also had good stuff. I’m thinking it would be much more awesome.

You’re right. You did not get the post. I am not saying that there are no legitimate complaints vs specific updates. I am saying that there is no legitimate complaint against the very concept of updating the game. If you tell me that you have a problem with patch X.XX I’ll listen to your points and maybe agree with you. If you tell me you have a problem with games getting patched I internally label you as a scrub.

In other slightly related news:
I don’t like the common attitude of “this game is playable enough, so let’s never consider changing it because it might get worse”. We should never settle for a “flawed but playable” experience. We should always demand nothing less than perfection from game companies, and give them every chance they need to get it right. This goes for all aspects, not just balance. Features, netcode, everything. Let them patch the game until it goes from “pretty good” to “almost perfect”. Sometimes they might get some things wrong, but so what? They can just patch it again. Let’s not let our fear of the game getting worse keep the game from getting better.

Im not liking people bringing up TTT2 as well balanced game when they don’t know how Tekken has been balanced in the first place. Im not sure you want that in 2D games…

Basically everyone has the same gameplan with a few differences here and there right?

Sorta. The characters are homogenized to a large degree BUT can afford to due to the large movelists to stay unique enough to have different game plans. Not really applicable in 2D games.

When it comes to the patching or no patching, there are a few other factors other than old school tough guys vs new school whiners. There is also…

  1. Which character do u play? Cause it is usually people who play a top tier character that complain the most, and people who play a low tier character who complain the least. Face it we are all a little selfish.

  2. How long has the game’s current form been out? ST and 3s will never get a warmly received cause they have been around 10+ years without changes. The community has grown so used to the game, and want it to stay the game they love.

Considering that the low tier in MVC3 walks, runs, and stomps all over MVC2’s low tier, I’d say there’s plenty of variety of both gameplay and characters.

Again, XF aside, MVC2’s low tier had pretty much the same options, with a few exceptions here and there: Dash in LK, or Jumping HK.

Meanwhile, look at MVC3’s low tier:

Thor has better mobility, health, and options than any of the low tier in MVC2. Hell, him being able to fly alone would put him in at least mid tier in that game.

Chris would keep out the entire cast, short of anyone with flight or teleports (which is a short list in MVC2). Deadpool would too, and his guns can cover the air.

MVC3 Cap would plow through anyone with a projectile-heavy gameplan. Let’s not talk about MVC3 Hulk.

Hell, GR would be able to keep out most of the MVC2 cast.

So yes, there’s plenty of variety in gameplay. It’s just that MVC3’s top tier are simply that much more dangerous.

People don’t like changes. Simple as that. And if they do, it benefits them.

Nigga this ain’t death battle, no one cares your supermans can beat our gokus

MvC2 is just a more fun game which doesn’t have 98% of the game consist of one combo. If you like UMvC3 whatever.

So far you’re contributions to the community is to shit on mvc2 no matter what. Even before you’re new name Noisychild complain all you want till you get banned for the Nth time. Do I go to UMvC3 boards and shit on it? No.

Any way more time I spend inside games the funnier these threads become.

I was replying to a post that was advocating banning top tiers.

It’s called making a comparison for the sake of an argument.

All I’ve ever seen you do is post random facts from obscure games that nobody plays, while bitching about how nobody plays them.

You gonna contribute to the discussion? If not, feel free to shut the fuck up and let the grown ups keep talking, m’kay pumpkin?

There is nothing to talk about.

You got a sirlin fanboy saying HDR was good. You got people pulling shit out of there asses on Vsav or VF saying good balance and misspelling and using a good player that proves it “wrong”. You got anime players saying the recent gg is balanced. And, somebody using almost every thread to bash a game.

As for "all I do is complain about no body plays a game"

I could of posted a wall of images of what I do besides playing said games that “nobody” plays.

So you post a bunch of useless information. Great. You get a cookie.

Now, if you aren’t going to participate in the discussion, then what purpose do you have for being here, besides trying to look like the Cool Kid in the room?

How blind do you have to be to see what he posts is useless info?

Are you even good, b?

What discussion?

It’s the same every time there is a balance thread. It’s a predictable routine.

Lol saying “collision data aka hit boxes is useless.”

Dude posts on a fighting game website and has absolutely no clue what the fuck hitboxes or why they are important calling them “useless information”

Just wanna know, are you good BBJ?

lol, Marvel 2 is not a deep game.
It’s a complex game.
It’s a fast game.
It’s an entertaining game - perhaps the most entertaining.
It’s a good game.
It’s perhaps my favorite game.

It’s not a deep game.
The mechanics are barebones.
The combo system is very easy - no hit stun scaling, no characters moving further away or falling faster, no juggle limit, etc. The only advanced offense is glitches - unblockables, guard breaks, fly screen deterioration.
The defense system is literally block, push, guard cancel, alpha counter. No specialized blocking, parries, etc., and only 2 or 3 characters have a reversal attack. Jill, Magneto… Cammy…? No one else, I don’t think. Can’t get much more barebones than this unless you look at Alpha and earlier.
The movement system is based off of glitches. Fast fly, wave dashing. You get 1 air dash and double/triple jump unless interrupted by a teleport (e.g. Dhalsim). No specialized movement like rolls exist.

It’s about playing rock/paper/scissors with offense/defense/zoning metagames and reading your opponent’s movement.
After that, it’s Sentinel, Magneto, and Cable. Every character is essentially one of those 3.

You can’t tell me that watching two sentinels going at it isn’t blissful. Its like ST in the air.

I never said it’s not.
I love Marvel 2. It’s a magical game. It’s my favorite game.

But it’s not deep. Its depth is severely overemphasized. It’s an amazing game though, and the air footsies that two Sents perform is fantastic.
