picked viper/sak because they can do a lotta damage with a little meter. vipers moveset looks cool also.
Makoto? she’s fun to use!
Before I ‘mained’ the characters I do now in SSF4, I had very different selections in ‘vanilla’. Back then I ‘mained’ the *Shadaloo *characters (Boxer, Claw, Dictator, Sagat) and Dan, although I stopped playing three of the four in the former group as they did not fit into my playing style at all. **
Sagat **was strong, but I felt he was a bit slow; **Boxer **had a nice set of tools to work with, but I found it overly boring to play as him; Claw felt too limited in his capabilities and I almost never played him again - I dropped them all promptly and stuck to Dan, Dictator, and **Cammy **for the most part. Out of the three, only **Dictator **stuck, while **Cammy **became one of my subs - **Dan **was then shown the door after a while.
To be honest, I only played Dan ‘the man’ to challenge myself and mess around with people - I lost 4/5 of my fights as him, but I enjoyed it - jumped on the *Danwagon *much like everyone else. I remember playing **Cammy **and **Dictator **in ST, Alpha 3, and the *VS *series, and noted them for suiting my style of play.
Now to answer the question, “Why did you main ______ ?”, with the blank spot representing…
…Dictator, because:

I have played him throughout all of the Street Fighter series and am familiar with his moveset. Getting drunk on that purple stuff, Psychool-Aid, rape flavored!
[]Said moveset is excellent, with good specials and useful normals.
[]I can win consistently if I pick him.
[]I like his badass design and character.
[]Awesome quotes: “This is delicious!”, “For me, it was only Tuesday…”, etc.
[]Who else can shut down fireballs with a fucking headstomp?! That in and of itself if made of win in my book.
[]He’s a real nutter, just like me.

He’s the true boss of Street Fighter, 'nuff said.
…Seth, because:
[]He has amazing zoning for keeping the opponent out and several tools for applying pressure/getting in on most characters.
[]Impressive combo strings, mix-up game, and setups make Seth a very fun character to play.
[]His low defense forces me to play more carefully and improves my sense of protection by knowing that any mistake could easily cost me half the lifebar. Maybe not a good reason, but it sure helps keep me on my toes as this character.
[]You can get into other players’ heads with Seth, as many have not-so-fond memories of ‘vanilla’ Arcade mode **Seth **being a total cheating bastard. His teleports and pressure tactics are also good for making some panic and make mistakes.
[]He suits my specific playstyle of having a widely varied assault and also has a great defensive game for when I wish to play it safe.
[]I can somewhat relate to his ambition and attitudes - he’s a real nutter, just like me.

Playing as a 7-foot tall, bald, naked man with a large Ying-Yang ball in place of genitalia is too weird of an option for me not to play as. He reminded me somewhat of the MP Eva from EoE when I first saw his character portrait. **Twelve **from Third Strike later came to mind when he was mentioned as “15” in his ending, he also had obvious nods towards Gill/**Urien **in his moves.
…Akuma, because:

I decided that if I wanted to play a ‘shoto’, that I’d want to play the one with the greatest damage and combo potential and a variety of ways to apply/deal with/get away from pressure. EAD, **Ryu **and Ken.

He has an amazing damage output from a relatively simple combo or hitstring, as well as a big box of tools to deal them with.
[]“Win fast or die fast” is every **Akuma **player’s motto, and one I quickly identified with.
[] BAMF that’s been showing **Ryu **and **Ken **how it’s done since ST. He’s a real nutter, just like me. Probably my second-favorite SF character ever.
[]Can switch from being all up-in-your-face-scary-as-Hell rushdown to “LOL U CAN’T GET ME” at the drop of a hat - as such, it suits my playstyle nigh-perfectly.
[]Landing a Demon on someone is probably one of the most satisfying things in this game, especially if you get the badass ‘Sky’ finish.
My subs are Cammy, Honda, and Ibuki, to which I say this: ***DAT ASS ***.
Guile
- the nostalgic SF2 badassery
- the hair!
- the playstyle (no I don’t go for timeouts :razzy: )
- the projectile recovery
- the normal attacks
- the shades
Adon:
- the way he screams his ultra 1 (english)
- the baiting, crossups & mindgames
- the “pounce” type attack abilities
- the number 9 (for fireballs) and number 8 “You’ll pay for disappointing me!!” taunts
- the fact I have a ton of fun playing him win or lose. :bgrin:
I realized who my main was almost exactly 1 year ago. Someone on xbox live became irate at how “cheap” my Vega was and told me to “take off that fucking claw” as a joke. He didn’t know that I could! EEEYOOO
Ken because he was my best friend when I was 7.
All my alts are black because im black.
Haha! Could say that~ It’s in the name, I suppose <3
C viper, cause the place I live in thinks shes crap, and weakest character, and she’s one of the hardest character to learn so I wanted the challenge, but though I grew a liking in her fight style.
Right now I’m in between Akuma and Zangief. Akuma is an awesome character, has all of the tools I could ever need and excellent mixup. Zangief is just a character I picked one day when I was screwing around, and then I started using him more. He’s such a double edged sword though. Getting in passed zoning and making your opponent shit bricks is what he’s all about, but sometimes it’s just so hard to get in to a character/player that can zone well. He’s very susceptible to different matchups, while Akuma is just much more solid. I think I’m just gonna develop them both, and not choose one or the other.
- Final Fight is one of my favorite/nostalgic games of all time
- Cody was my main A3
- The first frame of his debut trailer I knew right away I was going to main him.
Sakura, because when I press f+mk I can see her panties! xP
Seriously though, I usually look for two things when I’m trying to pick a main for a new FG, and they are:
- Affinity to the character. If I like the style, the moves, if I care for the character etc.
- If the character’s playstyle fits my playstyle and I feel comfortable with him/her.
That’s basically it, I play whom I like. However I still like to be competitive so when I consider the game particularly broken or doesn’t necessarily fits my playstyle etc. I try to pick a higher-tiered character just to stay a little bit more competitive. I always want to put up a good fight, not necessarily to win but I like to believe that I’m giving my best and all my opponents might learn or having fun playing against me.
Sakura is one of my favorite characters ever in SF and whenever I have a chance to main her I do it. Sometimes what works for one game doesn’t work for another, for instance I main Ryu and Bison in ST but I don’t feel as comfortable with SFIV’s Bison as I did with ST’s Bison. I main Makoto in 3S cuz I really like here, but I also main Chun outta of necessity in 3S, what I lack in parrying skills I try to compensate with her gdlk pokes.
ST: Ryu / Bison
A2: Sakura / Ryu / Guy
A3: A-Guy / A-Akuma / V-Sakura
3S: Chun Li / Makoto
SSFIV: Sakura / Rose / Guy
SC4: Raphael
KOF 97/98: Iori / Kyo / Benimaru / Ryo / Ralf / Clark / Terry / Leona / Mature (mix and match for the teams)
Funny story about KOFs. Every KOF since 97 I tried to main King without success, for some reason I can never do well with her and once again in XIII I’m gonna strike and main her again.
SS2: Cham Cham / Ukyo
Garou: Jae Hoon / Rock / Terry
Viper:
Because who doesn’t like completely mind fucking your opponent and SJCs.
Also she wears shade all game til she wins. Fuck Guile.
Sakura:
Idk why…She’s just fun to play.
Starting playing with Sagat in 1994 on SNES mainly because as a child I thought he was cool because he was so tall, he had an eye patch, and he had fast fireballs. The love just continued except for SFIII where I was forced to chose Ken.
Maining Cammy because I played her for the last year and more or less know how to use her.
But starting to learn Viper, because I LOVE HER VA!
Dudley because his music rocks
I decided to main Juri back when they showed her in september or whenver based on appearance alone, I think she looks really cool and has a personality I really dig. Upon actually using her, I really liked her playstyle too, so I’m happy with her.
Way way back when SF4 first hit japanese arcades (before console releases) I saw footage of players playing Rufus. I saw the BS he could do and it was like, I had to play that character. So he’s been my main ever since vanilla’s SF4 console release back in feb 09.
I love BS in fighting games. …unless it’s being done to me.
I saw Sagat and I was like “Man, thinking too much isn’t for me.” So I picked him up in Vanilla. But then Super came out and he was ass, so I go breathless Abel all day.
Well. When SF4 first came out, I had a hard time looking at who I wanted to main. I tried Chun Li, and she was beautiful, yet I just don’t like charge characters. Plus I’m terrible when it comes to combos with them. I can just never cancel into whatever special I wish to end the combo with. I’m terrible at charging. -___-
Then, I ran into Ken. and he was pretty easy to use. So I used him, and then, since Ryu was practically the same, I thought of just picking him up as well. Ryu was just about as easy to use as Ken, and as I watched the Street Fighter anime movies I fell in love with the main character of the Street Fighter story, Ryu. Plus, Daigo uses him, and IICh3ckmateII gave me inspiration to continue to work hard with Ryu even though he’s hated on a lot. So I like the under dog, and yada yada yada.
BUT, Ryu does get boring sometimes, so I pick up Cody as my secondary.
Cuz Rose is fierce.
