Why can't we have GGPO for UMVC3?

because marvel on psn is retarded. 90% of the matches arent playable. I cant even super jump on time. and if I manage to catch someone I have to keep mashing buttons so early for any combos to ever connect. even then half the shit just…drops. I know this is not the type of game to play online seriously but Id at least wanna be able to play sometimes…EVER?

I meant “why CANT”

can someone edit the thread title please?

  1. Takes up too much memory for 3D games, not that easy to implement in current gen consoles
  2. They could put in effort to implement it, but Capcom doesn’t care cause lag is less of an issue in Japan
  3. As Katsuhiro Harada of Tekken fame claims, GGPO is not a magic sauce that cures all the lag issues. It cures execution issues by skipping frames not received by lag, but if the lag is bad enough the game still wouldn’t be very playable. The time spent on implementing GGPO could be better spent implementing more efficient netcode, which UMvC3 supposedly has.

execution issue is the problem. I know ggpo isnt anti-lag miracle. I dont mind if there is random slowdown or whatever. I just want something playable…AT ALL.

guess time will tell.

To clarify: this is an issue with physics. No netcode in the world will actually reduce your latency.

I know all that but playing random Brazilians on GGPO/finalburn is STILL better/more playable than marvel on psn.

just saying.

COJ suck ass in net coding aspect ,it’s quiet simple . If a indie company can do it with a 3d engine , there is no reason for capcom to do the same. Even namco implant GGPO in the next dragon ball , i will like to remind you it’s in 3d and can be 4 players at the same time.
The console hardware don’t help the situation too .

GGPO is not magical , but it’s certainly better than all the crap capcom did with their game right now. I can’t believe people still defend capcom for this . We will see rollback feature only in report game like sf3 from capcom . I still continue to believe umvsc3 will be a atrocity online and sfxtekkan will be the same as sf4 + his sequels.

Idk, I think people need to get better internet. The majority of my games are plenty playable. Not enough to do ROM loops (though I haven’t tried), but playable enough to do Buktooth loops and corner loops with Doom and Dante OTG shenanigans.

I’m not saying I don’t occasionally go into a murderous rage from a laggy game, but I have trouble understanding the amount of hate that I hear regarding the netcode issue.

New games can’t have nice things.

Why is Japan internet so good, and why can’t other places replicate their internet connections?

because government is bad! evil! the free market must remain free to give us regional monopolies of shitty internet!

man can ya’ll stop bitching about why games dont have GGPO, didnt you listen to the podcast on SRK with Ponder, it has to be something thats determined at the developement stage, UMVC3 is still using the netcode they had from MVC3 with better coding, the game is have complete anyway. Quit bitching about GGPO already shit is getting tired.

Because GGPO is very demanding for the system and it can’t work with pretty graphics, only with small or old games. (SkullGirls, 3SOE)

The main issue is GGPO was designed around MAME games, and modern games have a different architecture. Most fighting games actually use the same methods as GGPO uses though, it’s just a matter of different forms of physics simulation and higher limitations making it more easily noticable.

But I duno man, I play on PSN more than I do with people IRL and really dont get so much lag online that it’s not playable very often. Reading the original post I cant help but think to myself “That has only happened to me a handful of times per week”. If I do get lag I just leave after the first match and find someone else and usually dont get a laggy person twice.

Most people I say that to on here think I’m crazy, but I’ve played it at friends houses with the same results, and none of my friends have complained about lag at either place. And I’ve played both at home here (in Tampa) on Brighthouse ISP, and in NY on Cablevision as ISP. There must be something else going on, maybe locational issues, specific ISP’s, or problems with common hardware?

Duno, wish I could help.

Or it could be due to this:

Population density/km^2 of Japan is 336
Population density/km^2 of the United States is 31

Size of Japan versus the US:

As a matter of fact, every country that has better internet than the US (and there are not very many) have extremely high population densities (UK, South Korea, Singapore, Japan), with Sweden being the only exception

Now back to the real topic.

If a company does not want to use GGPO, that is fine on them. Just don’t blow smoke up the consumer’s ass about having lighting fast netcode.

EDIT: I accidentally double posted, and tried to delete the other post, but it won’t go.

I R Dumb.

3S has pretty graphics.

yep , it’s better to close your eyes on this and accept every bad PR from capcom. Who care of the people that can’t join a local fighting community ?

Because they are wayyyyyyy smaller than America or Canada. It’s not some magic reason.

No just no. There is a ton of wrong in what you just said. Most fighting games netcode is Input Lag which fine only for certain games. Games where you don’t have direct control of a character(RTS games).

Just you wait mister Karpool95, once I get out of this Wolverine combo I’m gonna show you why they call me Mister Salt. Oh wait… Wtf? Did you just reset me on accident? Cool cool, I don’t mind some more drill claws. You can thank me later for trying to prevent a TAC and giving you free meter instead.

PSN sucks so much.
