ST, MVC1, Vamp Sav, UMK3, SF-champ ed, KOF games for the win. Why most we force are self to listen to these people to play new fighting games. We play old fighting games cause there fun, GG fanboys can have GG.
Word.
Because people have their own fucking opinions and preferences to what they want to play.
Majority of people today want to play something different it seems. Whether that be GG, AH, SF4 (haha).
Me on the other hand, I like playing these newer games (3s is my forte though) but I want to go back to ST (A2 also thanks GGPO) to learn the games I missed when I grew up.
While they’re sometimes too biased towards rushdown and unnecessarily execution-intensive, MvC2 and GG are very much based on many of the gameplay principles that made SF2 great. Moreso than SF3 and most other modern games, anyway.
Can you go one post without mentioning 3s? lol
I hate you and I fully agree with you.
its a trap
i guess it’s on my mind a lot lately with all the people complaining that parry isn’t in sf4
I don’t know why they’d do that…just play SF3.
What other games do you believe are outside of the realm of traditional SF play? As far as ones that are regularly played in arcades or at Evo.
Oh and who actually forces people to play newer games? I can’t believe there was actually a reason to make this topic.
Yeah…I saw that topic soon after.
Honestly I think the topic creator’s post was terribly misunderstood though. The first reply to the topic was someone getting defensive about SF. Which he wasn’t attacking SF. Even by just reading the topic title you can tell that he was only asking why more people don’t play GG. That’s all he was asking. There’s nothing wrong with him asking that since GG overall is a very good fighting game series. It just hasn’t grabbed all of the fighting game community yet. He wasn’t telling people to drop ST and 3rd for GG. Once people took things the wrong way…the topic went to shit.
I agree completely. I’m an ST player for life. I absolutely love SF II, but basically no one in Oklahoma plays it. In OK, everyone who plays competitively plays 3s, Marvel, or Guilty Gear, and at tourneys we have to have a completely free ST tourney to get anyone to play. A couple of years back Dark Geese and I tried to run one at the Oklahoma State Championships, only to have no one interested.
It’s somewhat depressing because I’ve spent so much time on that game learning it, only to have no one willing to ever play it. I mean, I play new games too, so it’s not an issue, but I’m like 10 times better at ST than any of the other games.
It’s tough to find an area of the US where you can get enough people gathered to create a tourney for ST. In my area I’m lucky enough to have just enough people that like ST to have regular tourneys for the game. Usually with about 12 to 20 people. Some driving a few to several hours every month just to compete. ST is a really fun game but it’s hard to get newer fighting gamers into it. ST (more so the 90s era SF2 console games) is what I grew up on so I’ll always like it but 3S is my game.
Hopefully the remake brings it back. The netplay will help. Unfortunately, NC has no ST scene- people here just don’t like the game for some reason.
I think that might be because you guys have a real scene for SNK games (that’s hard to find anywhere else) so ST if anything just seems like another Capcom fighter that gets in the way. I know a few people in NC that play ST but there just must not be enough to put real tourneys together. Really…the only way to get comp for ST unless you live in the 3 areas of the US that has a scene for it…is to play Kaillera.
Because there old? Why play MVC1 when you can play MVC2?
I personally like MvC2, VS, ST, some SNK games, and maybe even GG better than 3s.
I own plenty of fighting games, but I do find myself playing ST and 3rd Strike the most.
To each his own, though
why cant people play everything for a while and then judge what they like or dont like rather than going by posts they read on the internet
