Why aren't Marvel players playing Skullgirls?

Cuz it ain’t hype with infinitz n x-fakkor

Am i the only one that likes SG despite that it plays like mvc2?

because 3s is the only good SF3 game

if there was another game like 3s I would probably try it too.

Yatagarasu.

Or Battle Fantasia

You are confusing their artistic direction. They aren’t trying to emulate moe. They are deliberately subverting the characterizations of sexiness.

Considering that their characters are all pastiche amalgamations of cliches and things they find cool about other games and anime, I don’t think that’s true.

But if it IS a deliberate edgy and ironic subversion, more the fools them, because that kind of thing really narrows their appeal.

I really enjoy playing Marvel 3…don’t feel Skullgirls is wacky enough. Call me a scrub or whatever, but you asked.
Plus personally I feel like the Skullgirl characters were made by some teenage middle school kid. Lots of unnecessary apparel and forced designs.

Lol this thread… Why we have no real answers?

Heres why:

  1. It isnt mvc2

  2. Its slower than mvc2

  3. Sg super jump jump is way lower than mvc2 homing jump

  4. No flight character(s) that combine flight with near overpowered pokes or super fast movement (dont say painwheel, because she isnt that)
    5.no trijump characters

  5. Very few ways to safe tag via safe dhc without putting ones character into harms way.

  6. Kinesthetically, as opposed to aesthetically, sg feels nothng ike marvel 2.
Now add the fact that skullgirls while definitely borrowing many factes of mvc2’s gameplay… Doesnt actually borrow the thngs that REALLY MATTER to an mvc2 player such as the things i already mentioned.

Personally i LOVE all of those decisions and its why such as shorter super jump and whatnot (except for number 4… Really wish that were in in a higher form than pw)

But things like pointing out pbgc:

Doesnt matter, cause it wasnt used that much in high level marvel… And it shows cause mike said that when he asked high level players if they knew… Many said they didnt or flatout didnt believe him till he showed them.

Pointing out that super jumps change direction is also meh since the most applicable situation of that is completely taken out of sg:

Super jump trijump df would crossup in mvc2… In mvc3 this doesnt apply because super jumps dont turn around. In skullgirls this doesnt apply (as much) because there is no trijump ability.

These are the biggest reasons plus there being an overall small roster and the fact that resets are so much easier in sg than in marvel, making it feel and seem very different.

While your reasons may be valid, I can’t help but question your last point. The designs bother you, but you’re playing a game where literally over half the roster wears over the top random apparel.

What’s over the top about Marvel designs? It’s mostly one color and a general theme that follows that. Skullgirls have excessive accessories that really aren’t required. All I’m saying is that personally I think the character designs needed to be more simpler instead of of all the extra baggage they carry.

I love all the people complaining about all female cast. Especially since that is going to change soon(6 months or so after development). Y’all motherfuckers heard about Big Band?

Big Band is voiced by Rich Brown who has an awesome voice. (Feel free to follow me up with some kind of clip from him on salty cupcakes if you have one)

Or how about any of the possible fan vote male characters? Such as Panzerfaust. Dude has a fuckin tank for an arm. Or Stanley, the renowned scientist shark? Isaac the time traveling archaeologist? Beowulf, who wears wolf skin, head included, and fights like a wrestler complete with a steel chair?
Or Brain Drain? Idk the guy is just really fucking cool. There are even more but i just thought those are the most interesting ones.

Clearly the people complaining about an all female cast are afraid of tits.

This thread has a lot of PsychoJosh being silly.

People complain about too many females in Skullgirls and Arcana Heart. Then they complain about too many males in Marvel and Injustice.

Meanwhile, BB’s sitting over here with that perfect 50/50 gender ratio… B-)

Remember guys, no one can ever dislike one game and prefer it to another if its more popular than another one, there’s always a greater conspiracy behind it.

One reason is that the SG cast is just a worse version, gameplay speaking, of the Mvc2 cast. Peacock is like a toned down Cable. Filia is like a toned down Magneto. Double’s lockdown is a toned down version of Strider’s lockdown. Painwheel’s flight mode isn’t nearly as dynamic as Sentinel’s. etc.

None of the characters are really scary threatening. I think a lot of the fun of MvC2 is you have a bunch of dominant characters that can deal with each other in a variety of ways via feints, movement, and controlling space (whereas in MvC1, you have few dominant characters that deal with each other in similar ways).

The archetypes that SG characters have in them are more satisfying to use in the Marvel games in the same way that driving a nice car is more satisfying than driving an average one.

I still think SG is fun though (then again neither I nor nobody I know plays it that much so we don’t really know all the nuances of stuff…then again neither with MvC2 either). At least the characters have other things to make up for it. They are also nicely designed gameplay wise (and imo aesthetic wise).

However, I do think that the game could use a speed increase, decrease the size of the stage a little, have shorter combos, and have some more moves that are safe.

No dominant characters = No bad characters either Hyperviper
SkullGirls is pretty well balanced because of it. Sure there may be bad matchups between some characters, but nobody goes “Double is so fucking bad you should never play as her.”. That doesn’t happen with anybody

SG doesn’t have a MvC3 Hsien-ko or any other bottom of the barrel type of character. You can pick up any person you like in SG and not have to worry about hearing that “Filia gets blown up at tourney’s”, or “Ms.Fortune is D tier”.

Balance != hype.

SG has no hype. It’s clunky, borderline Guilty-Gear floaty and yes, I think the art style is absolute trash.

It’s balanced, but I can’t bring myself to put any time into the game. There’s nothing crazy - every hit doesn’t FEEL powerful, compared to Marvel 2 or 3.

Basically, the game is solid, but boring as fuck.

would be nice if the xbox patch came out soon
Kind of discouraged from putting time into the game, knowing that it is quite different from the patched version/
