I have to agree that the SG chars lack some sort of Omph behind what they do, is not that they are not powerful, but they don’t seem powerful for the people who are just looking, they certainly have a lot of tools that made them strong characters, but the way that they interact with each other lack the flair that other games have. It is because of that they feel tame compared to other games.
It’s a design issue though, has nothing to do with long combos or how good the players are. Skullgirls animations are somewhat cartoonish, and the violence feels a little out of place to me like it was shoehorned into the game. It’s all a bit disjointed. MvC2 and MvC3 both give you the sense that you’re in control of something epic; the movesets are coherent and powerful, you’re inside a comic book for real. MvC3 has a ton of gameplay-related design flaws, but it still excels in this department.
The question is “Why aren’t Marvel players playing Skullgirls?”, so identifying with the character is a big reason, alongside the game speed and size of the cast.
I play Marvel games for nostalgia. SkullGirls was better than Marvel 3, but I gave it up due to the glaring problems, no scene in the game and no patch on Xbox.

A view things I like about skullgirls is the fact that the team size is variable, I can directly start playing wiht one character and arent force to learn three at once like in KOF (-> shit). I personally like the atmosphere and characterdesign, it has this kind of end time atmosphere. What I dont like are all the noises, all the squaking and screaming in high female voices, thats one of the reasons I dont play blazblue lol.
But I will give the game another chance when the patch for the xbox comes out, but I feel I will still not like it cause the combos are still too long, I dont want to learn combos in training mode like a retard roboter, its senseless, I hate all the combo videos on the mainpage, fuck long combos. I want to play a game directly, without spending too much time in training mode on combos!!! It should be possible to win a game out of better positioning, better spacing, punishing and judgement, not jus tbecause I am a roboter and can pull out a 60s combo, shit.Because you can win at skullgirls just by landing one hit.

Despite hearing “Magnetic Tempest!” and “Magnetic Shockwave!” thousands of times, it never gets old. Skullgirls characters are well-designed, sure, but they just don’t FEEL powerful.
For starters. I get what you mean about the heft in their attacks but Skullgirls has powerful feeling attacks even if you don’t necessarily like the playstyle of the characters that are stylized to have that the most (painwheel and cerebella)
