Sean is worse exactly because he’s a bad shoto.
In what way is Sean going to do something unexpected or ambiguous or difficult to deal with.
Twelve can do those things but his inability to capitalize on the situation he creates more than his basic xndl super combo hurts him badly. without meter he is just too impotent and can’t actually convert his opportunities into much damage.
Relying on gimmicks with any character is bad. Especially a shit one. Sean rewards solid play. Not anywhere near as much as other characters, but he rewards it nonetheless.
The only problem with solid play though, is that you’re kinda relying on your opponent to make a mistake. That’s probably why Sean just isn’t scary. Like at all lol…
Sean is so much better. He can be played solid and fundamentally if youre good with him. Plus his dashes are fast. I dont care what anybody says about specific frames or whatever. His dash is the fastest among shotos.

Me playing Sean. Keep in mind, i’ve only been playing the game a couple of weeks and spend a lot more time with Makoto.
99% of the games I’ve seen a Sean player win involved some gimmick shit. I think its pretty easy to believe you can win playing solid with Sean but the truth is that hardly ever happens unless theres a huge skill gap. Punishing with Sean without meter barely gives you above throw damage the vast majority of the time, his anti air game blows without meter (or in the case of sa1/sa3, even with meter), and his low mk and rh are noticeably slower than the real shotos, making footsies even more difficult, so how is he really suited for playing solid?
The only match I ever saw with some solid Sean play, the player was just building hella meter most of the time since all his special moves are barely usable unless you’re using the ex versions.
Twelve is just as gimmicky if not more gimmicky than Sean. I’ll add this too; if the Sean player is a parry-god and the other guy is not (maybe just decent at best) than my money’s on the Sean player. If the Twelve player is a parry-god what’s the worst he could do? Grab him to death? Combo into SA1 if he has it?
One other thing: The Shend mains Sean. I rest my case.
Twelve does not win with gimmicks.
Using airdash to approach ambiguously and misdirect someone is not a gimmick.
Using his walk to go under things or dodge jump ins is not a gimmick.
Just because he has unique qualities doesn’t make his play gimmicky.
Gimmicks don’t really work offline more than a few times or not at all if the other player knows and expects them. Online some stuff can be hilarious. Like basically everything Ibuki does in a less than ideal connection.
Twelve wins with the same kind of stuff as everyone else. Sean does too but Sean has so few useful moves that he really can’t setup as many advantageous situations as Twelve can.
I fucking despise twelve get the fuck out of here with your fucking “iarch” and “tsicka tsicka” shit and your annyoing ass floating bullshit come AT ME BRO LIKE A MAN!!! OAAAHAHHHHHHHH NO ESCAPE!!!
(Informal) Kuroda interview? Off-topic, but is there somewhere I could read the rest or is there anything else you heard from it? Gotta get that Kuroda fix maaaaan.
well it was more of a chit chat of which fran and LUN shared some info on the italian forum; it’s up to them if they want to bring it here (since there may be some controversial points like a famous trash talking MOV interview which was asked to be deleted )
