A hadouken that goes 1/3 of the screen is a crap hadouken, same as for Sakura. Admittedly his tatsu isn’t complete crap, at least the light version, but like the other tatsu’s it’s used for cross ups, covering ground and combo enders. His Shoryuken is just a Shoryuken that isn’t as good as Ken or Ryu’s
Saying that he’s a rip off of two SNK characters who are rip offs of the shotos really doesn’t help you’re argument either.
So Dan was rip off of Ryo Sakazaki who was a rip off of Ryu and Ken. It’s a big gay circle jerk.
Whether Dan should be considered a Shoto or not is not really something that should be argued here though since he was explicitly deconfirmed.
By that logic, any motion projectile (soul spark, tiger knee, yoga fire) is a hadoken. Bad logic.
This is bordering on off-topic, but none of that is correct. ALL of his dankus are good. They’re all safe and keep him on offense. They are not used for crossups, ever. Ground tatus are rarely used to cover ground, unlike dankus, because they can be ducked. And, similar to the last point, you could say that any motion physical attack used as a combo ender is a tatsu, which is again, bad logic. The closest special to a danku is soul spiral.
Again, off-topic, but the only shortcoming his shoryu has is range. It does better damage than either Ryu and Ken, and has the same invincibility.
It does when the main character he’s a ripoff of (Ryo) merely LOOKS like a shoto but ended up with a gimpy projectile and a kick that’s nothing like a tatsu. That’s where every single “dan’s a shoto” argument always leads to. Appearance.
Never mind the fact that Dan has zero zoning game like a shoto, he can’t air tatsu in like a shoto nor crossup with his tatsu like a shoto, his footsies are very different than shotos, his sweep isn’t anything like a shoto, his jump-ins aren’t anything like a shoto, and his danku pressure game is completely unlike any of the shotos. That’s all irrelevant, he’s got a qcf+P fireball and he wears a gi. So he’s a shoto.
But I’ve had this argument several times and I don’t feel like having it again. It’s off-topic anyway.
I was waiting for you to make this fallacy. Truth is, at the end of the day they are all fireballs with slight tweaks. Giving a fireball a different name and slightly different recovery/start up properties does not make it fundamentally different. They still belong to the same paradigm and have the same applications, namely spacing/zoning.
This contradicts everything Dan players have been saying about the ambiguous hit box on lk tatsu/danku. But then again everything you’re saying contradicts the community consensus on shotos.

Tell it to Dan forums. Ambiguous tatsu cross ups with lk tatsu is considered pretty good. His footsies are different. That’s it. But his specials are so obviously conforming to the shoto model that he’s always has and always will be considered a shoto. Dan isnt a shoto because he uses Saikyo, duh. Akuma, Ken, Ryu, Sean, Gouken and Sakura are all shotos cuz they all use that ripoff of Saikyo, Shotokan/Ansatsuken

But it doesn’t act like a hadoken, and isn’t used in the same fashion as a hadoken… the only thing it has in common with a hadoken is the motion and animation. That’s like saying Sakura’s tatsu is like Ryu’s tatsu because they’re both spinning kicks… I mean, Morrigan has a projectile and an uppercut, is she a shoto too?
Then one of her alternate costumes should be Ryu’s outfit.
