lobo.
co-sign on that.
I’m surprised people are still having doubts about the Watchmen movie even though David Hayter himself even said that the movie is true to the source material down to the detail and he wasn’t gonna let Hollywood fuck it up.
Why? Why do you want to see comics made into movies? I still don’t understand why people take it for granted that comics should be made into films just for the sake of doing so.
As for the elitist slam, it’s stupid and unnecessary. It’s the Internet. Anybody who argues from a different position than yours obviously thinks he’s better than you and is trying to lord over you with his superior tastes, right?
I’m glad you enjoyed it. But X-Men wasn’t so much an adaptation as it was a reinterpretation. Taking a decades-long series and basing an original cinematic story on bits and pieces of it is a lot different from a wholesale attempt to convert a self-contained story from one medium to another.
David Hayter’s a competent screenwriting craftsman and has a great voice, but you lost me here. How, exactly, does he have the authority to reassure people as to the artistic faithfulness of Watchmen? Last time I checked, his isn’t one of the three names on the cover of the book.
Here’s why people are still having doubts: Watchmen, as it is, is 1. as good as it’s going to get, and 2. not filmable. There is a lot of stuff in Watchmen that simply cannot be faithfully converted to film, much like there’s a lot of stuff in Singing in the Rain that would be completely lost if it were adapted into a book. There are fundamental differences between media, and certain works simply resist translation at every turn.
I’d like to see a Green Arrow movie that isn’t the Supermax movie being made right now.
Also, for the Bond book fans, you really must check out Barry Eisler’s Rain series. Start with Rain Fall, and don’t read ahead. Trust me, and hurry because the movie for that is going to be out soon (trailer drops with Quantum of Solace).
I don’t know man, you’re coming off a little too critical, like in your head, you don’t want to see this movie succeed. Understandable, but to say that this film is not filmable is just dumb. Going by the trailer so far, it seems like this movie is a full realization of the source material.
You know what I would love to see? For Spider-Man 4 they use one villain, and for Spider-Man 5 they use one villain. And then for Spider-Man 6 they form the Sinister Six with Doc Ock, Sandman, Venom , the villains from 4 and 5 and Carnage (Carnage REALLY doesn’t need his own movie) and go out with a bang! Then at the last second when Spidey’s getting the crap out of him and I don’t even know how they can keep this a secret, but the movie actors who play Wolverine, Human Torch, Hulk, Iron Man, Captain America (his movie should be out by then), either Daredevil/Elektra/Ghost Rider/Blade take your pick so long as we have 6 Marvel characters - all jump in and save Spider-Man in a big battle brawl! :wow:
It would be a lot like the first ASM Spidey Annual. LOL Spidey ran across super heroes in that comic everywhere he turned. It’s probably what NY would really be like with all of the characters they have there.
Yeah yeah, different rights, studios, actors are gonna ask for a lot of money, BOOOO… :arazz:
Watchmen, AKA you really should have read it by now
Spoiler
If it’s true that they will replace the monster at the end with a LASER BEAM I am going to be pissed. That’s a piss poor decision right there and the movie 300 had quite a few of those IMHO sadly. There is no way they can spin the attack on NY being otherworldy with a Laser Beam on a planet that has a few super beings, it doesn’t work and is kind of silly. I’ll reserve judgement until after I see the movie though and hope this rumor’s dead wrong.
All the trailer tells you is that it is succeeding as a superficial imitation.
I want to see Peanuts made into a movie. By Frank Miller.
Charlie Brown: I’M THE GODDAMN BLOCKHEAD!
Lol!
Lucy: “Linus… all he has to do is let a few buckets go, and you’d never know.”
I agree as well. It is getting a bit too much now.
Even though I like Ms. Marvel as a character a movie about her isnt going to fly.
Im still waiting on Black Panther.
Am I the first one to say that they want a Civil War movie?
Got me good. I’m an elitist because I have a different opinion than yours.
Word.
Zack Snyder is going to vomit on my eyes.
I’d love to see a Captain Marvel movie, I think he has a really cool story that could easily translate into a movie.
Or, ya know what, I won’t be greedy. Let’s just keep our fingers crossed that the legal matters get resolved and we actually get a Watchmen movie. Yeah, that’d be nice.
I don’t really want to see comics portrayed as “moving pictures.” I would rather just read a comic.
However, while I have no problem with being referred to as an “elitist,” I would *prefer * to be known as an “extremist.” In fact, I pride myself on my haughty attitudes. I sit on top of my mountain of pretentiousness and look down and laugh at all the so-called “elitists,” secure in the knowledge that my facts (I don’t have “opinions,” only universal truths) make me a superior human being and a better lover.
There is a Captain Marvel movie being made. It’s going to be called “Shazam,” and it’s being written by John August, who wrote Charlie’s Angels, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Go, and some other movies.
Really? Well, that’s pretty awesome. Thanks for the heads up man. Know, by any chance, who will play Capt. Marvel?
I don’t think they’re past the script stage yet, although I haven’t kept up with it. Check out John August’s blog once in a while.
I’m still waiting to see a Iron fist movie. :annoy:
