Who do you use with Asuka? Do you use her first or second?

I alternate between;

Juri/Asuka and Asuka/Marduk

just thought I’d throw in my two cents.

F+lk ~ f+lp AA > st.hk xx oni - tag cancel

This is a good way to get a tag cancel with Asuka, you can also do her standard BnB (upkicks > j.hp > st.hk xx oni - tag cancel)

Or even upkicks/oni on block is a safe way to tag as well

I play Julia/Asuka with Julia on point.

Some Lili/Asuka combos

f+mk ~ st.mp > bedtime (st.lp ~ f+mp ~ st.mk) xx lk dp > cr.hp xx qcf hp (tag Asuka) - f+lk ~ f+lp > st.hk xx oni > sweep

J.hp > st.mp ~ st.lk xx hk upkicks > j.hk > st.hk xx oni (tag Lili) > cr.hp xx qcf hp > f+mk ~ st.hp

With Lili, anything into cr.hp xx qcf hp juggle can tag cancel into Asuka’s f+lk ~ f+lp > st.hk xx oni sweep or f+lk ~ f+lp > st.mk xx falling rain (st.hk xx falling rain in corner)

With Asuka, anything into j.hk juggle or oni juggle can tag cancel into Lili’s cr.hp xx qcf hp > f+mk ~ st.hp.

Those are the viable tag cancels I think anyway

TBH Ryu and Rufus are the best characters to partner her with if you want her to have a strong partner lol.

You should really just find another character your comfortable with and then MAKE them work together :stuck_out_tongue:
But to throw it in… Asuka (on point ALWAYS, you don’t have to rush at your opponent all the time not like she’s yun or anything)
& as a second… Ibuki/Lili/Xiao - Hey guys!

I think Asuka is strictly a 2nd character. She’s terrible on point.

dropped rufus for ken, mainly because he’ll play the most similar to sakura when she’s released. anyways…

  • ~450 dmg off DP, 1 meter
  • ~450 off crossup tatsu, 1 meter
  • ~530 off jump in hp, 1 meter
  • ~450 dmg off air to air, 1 meter

he has good standing footsies and anti air which asuka lack.

juri’s a nice partner with a good alpha counter, but she lacks the reversal option ken has. you also need 2 bars to get both asuka & juri out safely. ken only needing 1 and leading to great dmg. juri has great AA dmg from cr.HP, but ken can get the same thing with aa dp

I’ve been liking Rolento/Asuka.

No idea if this is a good team but rolento seems pretty good but doesn’t have very damaging combos so I can go into asuka after his third rekka spin thing.

I also really like range of rolento’s footsie game to compliment asuka’s poor range.

Thoughts on a Sagat, Asuka team? I’m maining Juri/Hwo and just want an alt team to play with that includes Asuka.

My basic strategy is zoning with Sagat, when they get in, jump in, get knocked down, get in Asuka and start my game with her. It actually has been working. Because Sagat’s combos into tag cancel don’t use a lot of hits, it doesn’t scale Asuka that much coming in. They both are able to connect with basically anything off tag cancels and launchers as well. I used the team a little bit today and it went pretty well.

She works pretty well for me but that might just be because I’m slightly defensive with her, that doesn’t mean I don’t go in on the attack though

I don’t think of Asuka as a second character because she can’t get in (that’s not true) but because she would rather have meter.

Personally, I want to play an Asuka-centric team (i.e. not just Asuka being a damage assist for my lead character.) I do better with her than with other characters, so even if I have her second I want my team to be able to focus on Asuka.

I felt an issue here with Jin as my lead character. He is fairly well rounded and doesn’t need meter when I do tag combos instead. His mixup is unsafe but his basic offense is solid and he has one of the best tag-in specials in Median Line Destruction. But when he comes up against a really solid rushdown character he is uncomfortable and forced to play reckless.

The point being that I felt like the team would have to become more about Jin if I continued that way, so I started looking at other characters - plus projectile zoning isn’t really my style anyway.

I feel Juri is overall a similar type of character to Jin, although she has some different weak and strong points. So I’d probably run into the same concerns.

If I wanted a more defensive style, I might try Chun or Vega. But since I want to see if I can make an offensive team work, I’ve been working with mostly Cammy, Nina, and Julia.

I think Cammy might be the ideal partner in this situation. She’s not too needy in any particular area - defensively sound, solid offense, can fight projectiles and grapplers in this game. If you do it right you can get a safe tag from spiral arrow (Asuka s.MK xx oni, quickly.)

Julia seems in simple terms like a slower, tricky version of Cammy. She has a little extra in terms of mixup and tools, but the price is less safety and more meter dependence. Probably not ideal here, but could work.

Nina also looks promising although she has some quirks that need to be worked around. She’s more independent than most partners in terms of damage - doesn’t have as huge damage opportunities as Cammy/Julia, but better average damage that’s fairly easy to execute. She probably has the best ground game, but if you screw up then her defensive tools are considerably worse. Only safe tag on block is off the overhead. I think she can be pretty reliable in most matchups but if you get pressured too hard then you might end up bringing Asuka in with a handicap.

I’ve been messing with julia to start my team, but have been thinking about using cammy since I played her throughout street fighter.
The one thing I do like about Julia though is that full screen raw tag punish. Easy 500+ damage with 2 meter or 600 with 3 x_x Also i feel like julia doesn’t need meter, but I might be wrong since I just started messing with her. She feels like I can use her as a battery and still deal damage.

Julia’s super changes how the opponent has to play against you, so she has incentive to be in with meter stocked. That’s the main reason, but she can function without it. Otherwise, her metered combos are considerably better than meterless, even if you consider launcher combos. She also benefits from the ability to EX cancel her chains and there’s always the tag-canceled reversal thing.

Does the full-screen tag punish situation come up that often? As long as I watch enemy health I don’t encounter many situations where I can’t get a jump-in combo if they raw tag.

Ryu/Asuka is really good.
Then again, Ryu is good with any character.

Who would you guys recommend for Asuka’s partner? I’m currently using Hugo right now just for fun since i just got the game just a few days ago. For sure that im going to drop Hugo since its hard to get in range with either of them. I’ve read that maybe Cammy or Julia would work as a partner? I played Cody in SF4, but i feel that hes isnt going to be a really good tag partner for this game. What do you guys think? Any advice would be good since im still learning the BnB for Asuka.

Cammy is really good partner, cannon spike tag cancel asuka and do St hk xx oni st mk xx falling rain cr hk does a tonne of damage, Cammy has good footsies and can get in pretty easily for Asuka.

Anyone thinking how Asuka works with some of the other characters in the game? I haven’t really touched the game much, but was playing Law/Asuka. I still kinda like the team, but might even think that a Cody/Asuka team could be in the works.

Asuka works well with anyone that has a strong neutral game on point, gets in easy or forces characters to come to them. And characters who has good tag options, like Hwoarang’s hunting hawk or Sakura’s hp shouken etc. to give Asuka a mixup on a tag cancel on block.

I used to run Poison/Asuka, I would fish for cr.mk st.hp chain with Poison (which is safe on block and hitconfirmable to launch) and it gets Asuka in.

Now I run Sakura/Asuka, and Sakura’s cr.mk st.hk fulfills the same role as Poison’s cr.mk st.hp and I think Sakura has a better neutral game than Poison.

Gotcha. I just had to get rid of Law. I do like him as a character, but having 2 characters with not so great AA game is a disaster waiting to happen. I do like what Cody brings to the table and think he probably has some good options to get in and tag Asuka in whenever.
