Who do you use with Asuka? Do you use her first or second?

yeah sorry haha, My friend and I are probably going to sit in the lab this weekend if he doesn’t go to Vegas for march madness. So maybe I’ll have some info for you =]

Cool, cool. I was playing with Lili/Asuka because I still think they have some really good synergy going on, but I just need to practice some easy BnB’s with the both of them then try to link those into tag combos. I’m not the best under pressure at all.

Some nice Lili/Asuka combos

Asuka’s F+HK overhead tag cancel to Lili

:lk: Angel Knee, cr:hp: :lk: sunflower lance.

Generic launcher from Lili into

f+:lk: st.:lp: st.:mp: xx :hcb: :k: into cr.:hk:

That’s all I know so far unfortunately, Kreative has a video in the video thread on some Lili/Asuka combos

Really?! Awe thanks Fergus! This is going to give me some great study material! I love these SRK forums though, and I added people on Live today. Do you think that team is viable to a high degree though?

^ Lili and Asuka sound like a decent team, imo.

The teams I run with Asuka so far have been:

Xiaoyu / Asuka
Ibuki / Asuka
Chun-Li / Asuka

Gotta have Asuka in there. Just need to get better with her, like everyone else.

I mained Ibuki i SF, but she feels completely different to me in this game so I haven’t touched her. Chun is someone I haven’t played with either, so hows that team work out?

I tried/still want to play Xiao for the longest, but I feel I need a fight stick to actually use her to some awesome potential because of her stance switching. Yeah I do. I wanna main Asuka after just watching all the stuff I’ve seen her do. Her and Julia pack the biggest punch out of all the females, but I normally like fast characters which is usually the partner card, see?

That is the video. I think Lili/Asuka is a nice team, one thing I don’t really like though is having Lili on point meterless, I launch as soon as I can to Asuka and get some damage and play around with her a bit and tag back to Lili as soon as I build some nice meter and then use dem Lili combos with meter.

If you plan on continuing to play SF4 Ibuki, I would suggest not playing her in SFxT unless you’re confident that you can go back and forth between games. I can sorta do that, which is why I haven’t invested too much time into Ibuki in this game.

Chun is a really solid character and I think can be partnered up with anyone in the game. You can do blocked st.mp xx HK legs extended -> tag Asuka in -> mix-up. And because Chun has awesome pokes, it’s really easy to land a combo to tag Asuka in.

Hmm, I can see why you wouldn’t want to use Xiao on pad. Julia/Asuka is a decent team as well. Julia can be played 1st or 2nd, and she has really good footsie tools like ->+MK > MP > MP (which is cancellable and can be hitconfirmed into a combo). Another example is ->+MP, MK into step (wind roll…?) cr.HP xx qcb+P

Who do you guys think would be a better partner for Asuka assuming she’s in second?
Cammy or Hwoawrang?

i use cammy for meter building and then abuse the meter on EX Falling Rain

So i put poison on point now and feel it’s a little stronger than before. Also set up the gem that gives +40% meter gained when partner launches which seems good for Asuka. not sure if I want to roll def gems or damage gems yet as it seems like 1 counter + 2 jump in mix ups = win. Might have to try out speed gems too.

Whichever you feel more comfortable with I guess.

My opinion is that Cammy is the better character than Hwoarang in a vacuum, although I’m not sure how they compare when teamed with Asuka against different enemy teams. Hwoarang has more “get me in and force an opening” moves to start offense and switch to your second, but he’s less solid than Cammy when he is in.

In this game Cammy just kind of walks in and grinds you down with frame advantage, but she does a lot of damage before juggles, which is good for tagging Asuka in via cross rush. You simply might have a less “balanced” team overall, in the sense that with Cammy in the first spot you’d want to make sure you’re comfortable working your way in with her against defensive teams (not unreasonable.)

Im thinking about using Raven/Asuka. Anyone know if this team will workout?

i played with Raven a couple of times and they have pretty good synergy, I’ll probably drop cammy for Raven once i really get the hang of him.

k thanks

Raven as your starter should be pretty good, he can frustrate the opponent with his range game and force them to come to you and allow you to bring in Asuka with a Cross Rush.

Rolento/Asuka is pretty good from what I’ve seen. I don’t know how to word it, but the team is pretty good at taking advantage of the frustration that Rolento can create, and then tag cancel into Asuka for a knockdown into mixups, and is easily canceled back into Rolento for another knockdown and more oki. The team only really deals monster damage when Asuka gets thrown in, but Rolento can really easily cancel straight into that damage.

Don’t know enough about the game yet (week 1) but it seems like a very mix-up oriented team with strong turtling in Rolento as well.

I’ve been playing Nina/Asuka = Meterless Damage/No gems.

From Nina to Asuka off a landed J.Hk the damage I’ll get is 450.

From a hit confirmed Nina Cr.Mk into Asuka, I’m getting just right under 400.

The best part of all is that I get awesome oki positioning which is redunkulous. 2-3 right guesses off a knockdown reminds me of good ol’ C.Viper.

In general these two have very good corner carrying combos which both love corner pressure. In general it’s an extremely patient team with really really really good damage and pressure off a knockdown. I have meter when I need it because I’ve been using the same meterless BNB the past 2-3 days.

The only problem I believe I’m feeling so far is that I really need to be on point with AAs and defense + lack of exposure to all characters in general. Both characters have solid ways of dealing with fireballs, Nina being the superior one in this category. If anyone else is playing this particular team, lemme know your experience.

I’ve been putting all my time into Nina lately as well, for many of the same reasons you listed. I’ve tried other characters with rushdown capabilities, but they all rely on meter. Asuka and Nina can deal damn good damage without it, sparing it for their defensive options, namely Asuka’s. Both of them combo with lots of juggles too, so switch cancels are easy both ways.

They also cover each other’s weakness really well. Nina’s not so strong on defense, but Asuka’s defense is extremely solid. Asuka has a hard time getting in, where she can deal damage, but Nina can get in for her fairly easily and has some really good pokes to help dictate the pacing of the match.

I need to practice the two together as well because I’m fairly certain Nina’s juggling capabilities can help Asuka set up her wakeup game on top of getting her in the opponent’s face.

Yeah I was thinking of someone like Chun at first for good limbs. Although she has better, she’s too defensive and I need to get in there. Nina has great limbs and nice pressure. Overall, I just like the corner carrying ability, I’m left with meter when I need it, and oki setups.
