The scarlet haired Ninja Nurse would have made a better Valentine than Valentine.
I’m hoping we get some more backstory on them. I’m liking the one with a bunch of hypodermic needles for a hand.
Anyone else here that would be excited to see Mr. Pompadour from the maplecrest stage as a future character? (or is he a reference I’m not catching)
He’s one of the artists (Persona) making a cameo, so … I doubt it heheh
As much a chance as Juju has of getting in, or even less.
This is now the Skullgirls baseless story speculation thread. Focus your hype here instead of raging all over the GD thread.
I’ve noticed a trend in Skullgirls characters: none of them are running around in a karate outfit punching and kicking people. All of them have some sort of outside source for their powers/fighting skills and can be broken up into some basic categories. What do you guys think of this?
Parasites:
Filia - Samson
Squigly - Leviathan
Venus - Ab-baddon
Speculative:
Annie - The stuffed rabbit
Double - Possibly a parasite, but also likely she was born that way
Living Weapons
Cerebella - Vice-Versa
Parasoul - Krieg
Umbrella - Hungaren
Speculative:
Annie - The stuffed rabbit
Feng - Salamander
Technology
Peacock - Argus System, Avery Unit
Painwheel - Buer Drive, Gae Bolga parasites (artificial?), Skullgirl blood (also artificial?)
Big Band - Cyborg
Leduc - Cyborg
Ileum - Organic cyborg?
Other
Ms. Fortune - Life Gem
Marie - Skull Heart
Nancy - Skull Heart
Valentine - 100% natural?
Panzerfaust - Has 2 tickets to the gun show
Black Dahlia - Apparently was given the other ticket
Huh, despite her ninja abilities, Valentine is like the most normal of all of them, well…sorta.
Usually in fighters you have characters who shoot fireballs from their palms so it’s not surprising to see some teleports here and there. But Val really makes me wonder how the hell she is doing it O_o
Praying this is true, and praying she’s DLC we’ll see this year.
Panzerfaust has 3 tickets yo.
Double’s offical bio calls the cathedral stage the “Grand Cathedral of the Divine Trinity.” What’s going on in there?
Spoiler
This huge statue behind the altar must be the Divine Trinity: three female deities worshiped in the Canopy Kindom. We don’t really know what the religion is about or who the three deities are. The stained glass windows on the right side of the stage may give a clearer picture.
Spoiler
Hey! The first one is someone we actually know about. Venus, who fights with her rather suggestive Ab-baddon parasites, is a potential DLC character. She’s rumored to be part of the church, possibly as a high priestess based on her resemblance to Midler.
Spoiler
The second character isn’t as obvious, but this may represent Double based on the distinctive headdress. Double certainly works for the church as a nun! Could her powers be from a parasite too?
Spoiler
The third character hasn’t been seen before or officially named. Could this be an unknown future DLC character? Maybe all three of the Divine Trinity have parasites that give them their divine powers. The church authorities could host the parasites, passing them from generation to generation. Statues, idols, and ceremonial dress would represent the original hosts and church founders. The Canopy Kingdom could be worshiping the parasites that run the whole religion!
I’m confused. Pizzarino, are you “in the know” so to speak and are trying to to spark conversation by leading us towards the correct conclusions or are you just as much in the dark regarding the story as we are? Anyway, I appreciate you getting these nice screencaps. I’ve been trying to to make out those figures in the statue and windows for ages now but none of the Cathedral gameplay footage I’ve seen was really conducive to getting good, complete views of the objects of interest. Looking at the screencaps, there’s no question that the three individuals in the statue are the same three in the windows. This must be the “Trinity” Double was referring to when she was talking to Valentine in the last FNF. The only villainous trio we are familiar with at this point in time is Valentine, Double and Marie but Double’s statement makes little sense if those three were the “Trinity”.

Following this same line of reasoning, I’m opposed to the hypothesis that the second figure is synonymous with Double. Before learning of Double’s bio and standard design, I thought it might be possible for the same reason you thought, the similarity in the head/headdress. However, given Double’s now known to be generally subservient role, I think the situation is similar to how angels and humans are said to be made in the image of God and not the other way around. Or how knights will wear and carry the insignia of their king insignia. She has taken on the general shape of that which is above her, the most prominent of the “Trinity” in the statue. However, if Double serves the Skullheart AND the “Trinity”, how are the “Trinity” and the Skullheart related? Is Double just using the Nun getup as a disguise and place to hang out or is she actually working towards some sort of goal at the Cathedral? Who exactly are the two other members of the Trinity?
Maybe I’m weird, but I’m very hyped for the story of this game. A VERY interesting, unusual world and narrative have been built, a rarity for modern fighting games. I really want to see how it plays out not just in the short term but in the long term as well. I’ve heard that overall narrative has three major story arcs; I want to see them all to their conclusion.
I actually don’t know the answers. It was a good excuse to post pictures
I’m getting a really good Silent Hill-esque vibe from those pictures of the church.
Story mode is going to get played immediately
Speaking of, I wonder if the (former) Last Hope members are important enough to be in the running for dlc?
edit: Wow, only just realised that Cerebella’s cirus troupe includes a heart, spade and club themed performer to go with her diamond theme
I’d bet the last hope characters may show up much later on in say skullgirls 2 or 3.
Also, I do wonder about the canopy kindoms religion, but I keep feeling that that second character is Nancy, not Double, which makes me believe that the canopy kingdom worships the skullheart, but that doesn’t seem to make sense with parasouls motives.
http://skullgirls.com/game/world/
They worship Queen Nancy for her sacrifice of trying to bring peace to the world, which she succeeded in doing at the expense of her becoming a Skullgirl. this forced the 3 kingdoms who were at war with each other to finally become allies and defeat her.
Speaking of 3 kingdoms, it’s never said what the other two are. We know Canopy is one, and I think the Dragon Kingdom is the other as implied by Squigly’s bio. Anyone know what the last Kingdom is?
I’m just taking a wild guess here, but I’m assuming the Divine Trinity were the ones who killed Skullgirl Queen Nancy, and that each of them came from one of the 3 kingdoms. I also assume that the 3 of them might of became possessed or something happened to them that made them evil. As to what Doubles connection to those 3 are, I don’t know.
I’m just guessing here.
BTW, Pizzario, how did you get such clear and large pictures of the Divine Trinity on the Stain Glass Windows?
2 Painwheels + flight + sparring mode + alt + print screen
How high can 2 painwheels fly up?
Kingdom of the Gigan’s?
They can fly up to the top of the sky 8>
I’m assuming to the ceiling of the stage if it’s at the same time, but that’s an educated guess not necessarily fact…
And… gaaggghhh! The stuff about Double just gives me BURNING QUESTIONS. Double works for the Skull Heart and the Trinity? Does that mean the Trinity is evil? Do people worship them? If so, do the people know the entity they’re worshiping is evil? If they do, do they care? What about Parasoul? She wears the symbol, is she part of the church? If Double’s opening line is anything to go by… is Parasoul rebelling against it?! Ghhhnmmhmg I simply don’t know!
I’m definitely going to go into very careful internet lockdown until I finish the storyline. No spoilers for me. From what I can tell the old concept art material is largely outdated, so I have a feeling I know very little about what it holds. Alex has definitely done some interesting worldbuilding and I haven’t played/watched anything spoil-free in a long time, so I’m super looking forward to this.
