I work at a bank. We get weekly/monthly notices of robberies that occurred in other areas with camera shots of the criminals. EVERY.SINGLE.NOTICE…the criminal is black. (90% are from Oakland. k, maybe a little more than half, but it feels like Oakland is on there everyday) That is over three years.
I have personally been in a bank robbery. One of the offenders was Latino, the other was…black.
I have personally apprehended a 21 year old male cashing false checks for as part of a criminal ring of fraud. He was…black. (and from Oakland, lol)
I have personally stopped a change-artist in shades and gold jewelery from taking hundreds from my window. He was…take a guess…
And even though she walked out before we could do anything, helped prevent somebody from cashing false checks after routine questioning. She was also black!!. (maybe females are the smarter of the sex, I don’t know, she was smart enough to leave when she knew it was going bad)
Racism is bad, but lets not be blind to behavior just because it is a “stereotype” Stereotypes exist because they are behaviors or events that have been noticed time and time again. i’ve worked in banks and have been in a bank robbery and was almost in another one. the successful one was a white woman, and the near robbery was a white man. these incidences were of course, in predominantly white areas. moral of the story…if you’re in a predominantly [insert race here] area, most crimes are gonna be committed by [insert same race here]. surprising, i know. and i have also seen surveillance shots of bank robberies from other areas, and the theif is typically whatever the predominant race of that particular community is. oakland is mostly black afaik. (correct me if i’m wrong)
here’s the sad part of the robbery that was committed by the white woman. when all the bank employees gave their eye-witness testimony of the incident to the police, everyone said that she was white (about 6 or 7 people, about 5 of which were white). when the news article of the incident was printed in the local paper, THE ARTICLE STATED THAT THE ROBBER WAS A LIGHT-SKINNED BLACK WOMAN.:eek: apparently, having multiple eyewitnesses who were within feet of the incident in broad daylight, isn’t enough believability for law enforcement.
Repeat offenders for what? Non-violent drug crimes, for which blacks are punished far more harshly than people of any other race?

There was an incident a couple years back where a pair of black men mugged a white guy while yelling various racial slurs. The prosecutor was able to get them jail time but he wasn’t able to give them the more serious punishment that comes with a hate crime charge because the judge said that you can’t commit a hate crime on a white guy.

Edit: Tacking on a hate crime/bias charge onto the disproportionately long jail times black people get seems a little harsh. No? Might be giving out death penalties left and right… lol (that’s a little tongue in cheek).
White males don’t seem to get it. Minorities are still institutionally oppressed, women still work for less and can’t even make their own healthcare decisions etc… Not much has changed unfortunately. You best believe those hoodlums got what they deserved (and more).

I personally think that the idea of a hate crime is kind of silly because things get really foggy when you try to punish the motive. Better to focus on what was actually done. My previous post was just an example of “nobody really cares all that much if it’s a white guy” and I thought it was a better example than the one used by the OP because the motivation was obviously racial.
In theory, I agree with you. What happened was deplorable; no questions asked. However, the law is not applied equally and and hate crimes are, I guess, a counterweight to that (albeit a heavy handed one IMO). There are some crazy laws being enacted and signed at this moment; voter id laws, emergency manager laws, equal pay laws for women are being revoked, etc. Those laws, disproportionately, affect minorities and women a lot more than they affect white males. When the law/justice is applied equally to all, there’ll no need to clarify senseless acts of hate (such as this one) as hate crimes…
It’s a fucked up situation in general. Making hate crimes a thing is nothing more than putting a Band-Aid over a missing arm.
I kind of like the voter ID laws. There really is plenty of fraud going on, and judging by the increase in minority votes in many of the states that have enacted them a lot of that fraud is being done by white guys who can work the system because they aren’t required to show their ID. My main issue with the law here in my home state (Texas) is that it is really fucking hard to get an ID. If the red tape on that was cut clear and it made where anyone with the capability to prove that they are an American citizen could get an ID then it would be great. As it is now, though… Well, it’s just a ploy to make sure Houston’s next mayor is a Republican.

Have you considered that if you worked at a bank in a area with a majority of white people(Iowa, Montana) you would see the same issues with different color offenders? Or is all crime only committed around black areas.
