I dispute that it’s “better than nothing at all”, how, who exactly does this help? I creates a crap fucking ton of chances to game the system for the guys at the top. These rules, tax laws, regulations, all of these things just allow the most ruthless and dirty fuckers with the least amount of morals and quickest legal team to shit all over anybody that’s trying to be honest.
There are already rules in place to prevent things that don’t create as much of a gaming situation. For example, I am a protected class as a veteran. That carries strong anti discrimination in hiring rules and fairly strong rules against being fired. These rules are flawed, simply due to lawsuits scaring the fuck out of people, but they don’t really get things that bad. But once you say “minority, womens, veterans, lgbt, majority owned (also senior staffed prefered” than you pretty much released the kraken and the suits go to work. Because now, well, who’s a minority! Asians are already right out in most situations (sorry fuckers might as well be white), and the Hispanic and African American communities have been savaging each other over who gets what as well with African Americans getting the best situation due to their hooks in the Democratic party. That’s hardly productive, and the rich white dude is still winning, he’ll just hire and fire as needed and create “right to work” clauses that all of a sudden undermine your protected class ability to sue, that were only created to help speed swap people when needed.
You’ve just created a situation where a company going for a bid, looks at the makeup of the senior staff of other firms, and then just magics up postions and shuffles staff to trying and gain an edge.
That’s not what went on in the 1950s, which was a situation where basic workers couldn’t get anything sort of a fair wage unless you were a rich, white, straight, male. But of course, we aren’t fighting there for equality, it’s all about officer level and positions above. If you think any of this helps the minorities in the mail room or the single mother working as an administrative assistant putting herself through college your dead fucking wrong. Because they aren’t partners, owners, or senior staff, so giving them a fair shake doesn’t help you.
Most suits are Gordon Gekko out of Wall Street if not worse. And if you’re actually honest you’re going to get shredded by the game who games the system.
My solutions, well equal pay for equal positions is no brainer to start with. My next would be solidly established minimum and professional wages. Next remove CEO and officer “kill pay” for landing contracts (this causes everybody to do anything to win something and then trying staff it after the fact, if it goes south, oh fucking well). Push it a bit further with education and assistance focuses on poverty levels and not identify politics. Toss in a salad of stripping some college funding and creating more trade schools and forcing financial literacy education on most of us. Then strip out any sort of diversity favor systems, and if not require long term diversity at all pay levels as the qualifier not how many officers you can gin up in a month.
I have nothing against the government taking steps to promote equality to trying and undue years of discrimination, I do object when it’s done in a way that only helps those at the top and enables people to game the crap out of the system. Most people don’t really grasp how blood crazed board and officers meetings are. I’ve sat on a few boards at a point and I’ve been company officer rank for the past 8 years, the type of crazy that goes on to “just fucking land the contract, whatever it takes, fuck those people at XXXXX firm” and then realizing “hey, I get a percentage of that 10 million if my department stacks up invested for me” creates all jackassery that would blow most peoples minds.
I doubt her bond will get reduced since she can’t claim self-defense like Aaron. The third suspect who sexually assaulted the victim at the end of the video better stay in hiding, unless he wants to receive the same treatment in prison.
