Yep, godlike in SF1 - something like a 2-hit kill (even 3 fireballs can kill).
Weaknesses: he can’t judge distances very well. Also, he’s a big target. CE-Ken’s 4-fierce works on him but not on most other characters who are not as tall.
Meh, I sometimes feel he has a ton of really useful tools, like one too many… but he is but a man. He can be beaten.
It just so happens that for most of the other characters, it takes a good amount of effort to discover how to beat him, and then implement that in a match.

Not “All”, but you can say that about at least one per game… Akuma has been inconsistent throughout. Ryu has been inconsistent as well.
Well, im based on GGPO and Tournaments, sagat’s super on ST is bad… if we talk about O.Sagat on ST or Sagat on HDRemix well that’s different.

It may have something to do with him being the strongest fighter in the world or something like that. That seems to be the only real consistency in the street fighter canon so I’m cool with it.

More seriously, they seriously need to nerf his fireballs or damage more often. Just give him a more solid weakness then just “well, theoretically he’s big and slow.” He’s not any slower than Ryu.

Well Sagat in all of his glory has never made it to God tier status. He’s always been beatable. You have to change your gameplay around him, but that’s with every character. Zangief is another strong and big character who does tons of damage but takes little in return.
The reason why people rarely complain about Zangief is because it’s pretty obvious you need to stay away from him. Sagat can damage you full screen, so pepople think hes cheap. I know I did years ago.
I first started to learn about spacing, footsies, and distances. And I eventually became somewhat of a Sagat killer. I’ve been playing Guile since HF days (I occasionally used him in CE). It’s always been Guile’s worst matchup next to Vega. But I don’t know, I’m so familiar with Sagat character design and options, it’s one of the matchups I enjoy the most.
BTW, Sagat was only mid tier in Alpha 2, and I don’t believe he was that good in Alpha 1, but that goes for anyone who wasn’t named Guy. lol
